the story goes that the band was ready to record and tim was on break somewhere and brown called bootsy over (who always hung around the studio) to play the bass line ...
There is a line ion part 2 where Mr. Brown says "I don't profess to be no teacher but this is my latest outlook, she needs to get herself back in the mathematics book". That is probably my favorite James Brown line of all time!
One of the things I liked about James Brown performances that he does not get much credit for, is how he led the band. Yeah, that's right. James Brown was a band leader. Those cues he shouted were not just some made up parts of the song's lyrics (well some lyrics were made up). But mostly those were cues to let the band know where he wanted them to pick up their part. I heard stories that James would kick band members out and send them packin if they missed their cue or couldn't keep up.
@luvfunk That was Tim Drummond on bass, not Bootsy Collins. Bootsy didn't join up with James Brown until 1970, and his first recording was Sex Machine.
@luvfunk Oh , NO gmandofgod you going to put me out there ? Do what I said !!!! So Bootsy is a liar now ? Go to " Bootsy Collins Tribute " (go to 3:07)
THE best JB jam IMHO !
