Breaking discovery. The song is by the great Jule Styne ("People," "just in Time," "Time After Time"). He was frequent contributor to movies as well as to stars like Crosby, Sinatra, Doris and Barbra.
Thanks for posting this clip (a new one on me--I'm curious about the songwriter. Even though the film is jumpy (a frequent occurrence because movies are shot at 24 frames per second, a speed that most TVs can't handle), the audio is smooth and clear throughout (someone else's posting of Doris doing the song has distorted sound and no movie!).
As I young boy, I was too distracted by Marilyn and Jayne to appreciate Doris. Only in my '40s did I realize how wrong I was. Doris was an awesome talent, an unstoppable force and rare survivor. She went from #1 in the movies to bankrupt, but always came back. See her in "Calamity Jane" for gender-proof human grit, and listen to her early big band recordings or her later solo session with Andre Previn for her musical gift. An all-around great talent like Judy, but without the dependence. A hero!
It was fun looking at this again, sweetie!! What a Doris Day scene!! She was a natural!! A really terrific post!! xoxo David
