It's amazing how far the ancient Greeks got using their minds alone. Another is Aristarchus, who discovered that the Earth revolves around the Sun 1000 years before Copernicus.
@jimmicreesti .... and to a (much) lesser extent, the mis-punctuation of the likes of William Shatner and Christopher Walken... How's your impression then? :)
*3rd post* Also, I hate it when either of the groups try to overtake the other by saying things like "Isn't this so much more awesome than your insignificant theory?". That's the most childish thing one could ever say, no matter if it's from a theist or atheist. If there's an intelligent discussion about facts or beliefs, it's fine. But as soon as someone starts looking at the other view as inferior and stupid, both opinions start to be retarded.
@fozkoppe not really dude. Because it IS more awesome when you understand the consequences of modern theory wand what it explains.
Calling people idiots because they don't understand isn't right however I agree. I save that for when they prove themselves to be idiots by trying to disprove the theory with nonsense ideas i.e. because they haven't even TRIED to understand what the theory even is saying!
@Kokainuser No. I think you should then proceed to reasonably explain to them why the earth is not a cube. If they're not moronic, they'll believe you. If they don't, if they say that your view was stupid and the earth REALLY was a cube and you were stupid for thinking otherwise, it's just "looking at other views as inferior and stupid" again. There needs to be a dialogue in which you try to convince someone, not just say "you're stupid anyway".
*2nd post* You can sure try to tell someone religious about evolution and everything, but you should try to do it without going "LOL LOOK AT THEM THEISTS, STUPID LOL RETARDS BELIEVING IN GOD", but understanding that the desire to believe in something is probably the oldest desire ever, besides the need to procreate, of course. It has nothing to do with being stupid, but with either being born into a religious family or seeking help and shelter in belief. No point in hating on religious people.
I think it's just sad that every discussion always ends in bashing religion. Sure, religious groups have always persecuted people of different belief, but I think it's childish to turn every conversation against religion. Same as I think it's stupid to say that people who are religious are dumb. You might say that some americans are pretty stupid and stubborn when it comes to evolution and things like that, but at least in Europe its absolutely not necessary to condemn religion. *read 2nd post*
@Monstratic0900 Agent Smith was loosely based around Sagan. When Sagan started his career he was a bit like the 'Neo' of science, a poacher if you like, but then became a gamekeeper, or agent, spewing out 'official' science.
@Merecocross that's precisely whats going on, notice how he emphasizes certain vowels and sylables; '' a long road without an IN'' or ''very, simple moving parts'' or ''INtricate'' or ''noo void'' he processes large words based upon intrinsic logic and axioms- with scientific fact blended in. a lot of words in the english language are not very logically coherent with other words, so sentences spoken in pure logical format is tough. his brain is trying to convert pure logic to english.
@toragpoons Ya gotta hand it to Sagan, the man had swagger. I've noticed he also had a thing for apples. He uses them in so many of his lectures. Truly a beautiful soul. RIP.
@Skedarking85 - I admitted this today in a meeting with co-workers about people who had influenced me--that I wish I had been more into science while Sagan was alive.

I've just realised that Carl Sagan and Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith in The Matrix) have very similar voices and inflections.

So if I say the Earth is a cube and someone comes here and tells me that I´m a fucking undeducated moron, he is automaticly as retardet as myself ?
Is that really what you think ?
