Ms. Simone your quite a lady. I enjoyed that immensely. It is better than the original, your voice is far superior. Maybe a banjo toward the end and you have perfection.
I just discovered this song. How eerily beautiful. Such a vivid story. I love the furry and build up. She does seem to be in a trance and overcome with the music. Will be adding to my rotation.
If you've seen the new Harrison doc, Living in the Material World, there is a section where Harrison talks about Ravi Shankar reaching a trance state while playing, how he'd finish and you could see his mind return to his body. Shankar states that the purpose of music to bring you to god consciousness. I think it is a sign of a great master of transcendent music to reach this type of state during performance.
Wow...I knew this song from Bob Dylan's original 1964 recording, The Times They Are A Changin', but this performance is on another level completely. The late Mrs. Simone seemed so involved in the performance that she almost forgot that there was an audience present. I noticed that she gave the audience a look that seemed as though she had to come back from some dark place that the song's theme had taken her to. That might actually be the trance-like, shaman reference another viewer described.
She's in a zone all by herself. It wouldn't matter if a million people were there or she was singing to herslef, she seemed completely in the moment of the story.
The way she stares into the piano at the end is amazing . She looked as if she completely forgot everything until the crowd applauded 7:05 . That is something real which im struggling to find these days
Man...It´s almost scary to watch this..... It´s so good it´s beyond good...But what I mean with scary is that it´s almost Shamanic.....She performs it as if she was drumming herself into a trance... Nina Simone is a medicin woman....
Few can sing Dylan, in my opinion, but Nina is an exception, she is just amazing in this rendition, it's fantastic how she builds the song up to a heart felt crescendo, wonderful stuff ! Thanks for sharing & God Bless Nina
I like her take on the song. I'm partial to Dylan's version though... I find it more haunting and personal... and it builds in a more horrifying way. Anyway, a powerful song and a powerful performance.
@jimjim1983 Her rendition of the haunting is legendary. She takes the listeners to the scene of the unfolding drama and misery of Hollis Brown. We can feel his suffering, till the tragic end.

It's a rare exception that anyone does a Dylan tune better that Dylan himself, This is one of those exceptions.

there is not a song Nina sings I don't fall in love with. Her passion and complete devotion to the story is over powering.

Dylan's is brilliant. But it's amazing how different the stories are when each does it. They both paint such different pictures. Love this song.

@peterwhiteunc you should checkout her song named Sinnerman if you haven't already. It's quite similar to this but even better.
