  • kempo is karate?

  • @suntzu70 No, it is not, indeed. It is a fairly modern martial art system, based on self defense and self development, which has both punch/kick/blocking (goho) and throwing/joint lock/evasion (juho) techniques. Be welcome to visit the WSKO website (address on description), and get to know more!

  • @suntzu70 Kempo is japanese for Chuan Fa which means Fist Law and it is the name given to chinese systems practiced in Japan. So Shorinji Kempo simply means Shaolin Fist Law. Karate means Chinese hand and it was brought over from China to from the Ryukyu Island and later to Japan but the Japanese claim it as there own so its not considered Kempo. Kempo Karate is just bull shit to make it sell better because Karate was more popular and easier to sell than Kempo at that time.

  • @seanadupre Karate does not mean chinese hand! karate means empty hand! Kara Te! Kara meaning empty and Te being hand in Okinawan dialect! Also although karate may have taken some small aspects from Kempo it was also from indigenous fighting methods!! To say it was stolen is not only ignorant but also stupid! A lot like your comment!

  • @Stl2iFe first of all I didn't say it was stolen. Second Kara means chinese hand not empty hand and third you need to do more research because Japan was invading China at the time, and Funakoshi knew that the art of Tang/China hand would not be accepted; thus the change of the art's name to "way of the empty hand."

    Dummy.
