  • whats the point of disliking this video?

  • I remember when this used to fly around Muskegon. Sad that it's gone now.

  • @UnrealNate Supposedly the blue angels will be here this summer. Blue Angel number 7 actually came here this past winter to make plans for the airshow this summer. Maybe the C-5 will be back too?

  • @StephM1982 I heard that the blue angels cancelled coming to Muskegon.

  • wow, 30 second roll, this thing must have been really heavy to take that long.Especially at Full TRT with ATOT.

  • This plane makes 2 times more noise as a Antonov 124.

  • The engines sound haunted. :)

  • @336kgf That's because it's leaving a ghost town.

  • @howellfilm Is Muskegon that isolated? Never been there.

  • God, that thing has absolutely no business flying in the air, ROFL. One just flew past me and I had to see it on tape again. Love it!

  • Listen to those GE TF-39's,SO LOUD!

  • @Flyglobespan93 yes, the Grand Daddy of HBTF. I loved their sound. The GE90's come in a close second place though.

  • i thought it was pretty good asshole

  • Worst camera work ever. ;)

  • lockheed marietta... dad helped with

  • you are clear for take off

  • Very noisy engines!

  • Heard one take off in Hawaii tonight. It was pitch black out, but I could tell from the sound and the size from the blinking lights.

  • but they sound creepy and kool the same time..

  • dam i miss the airshow

  • i love the sound of this plane

  • They should at least have it every other year or every 3rd year?

  • They need to bring the airfare back. If they didnt try to have it at the same time as the summer celebration maybe it would have survived?

  • Would be nice to see the Air Fair come back ... perhaps once the economy rebounds. It wasn't the competition with Summer Cel so much they were just trying to make the Air Fair bigger than what the community would support, sadly.

  • i remember this. i also remember the first air show i ever went to and the last one they had in 2006. what i wouldnt do to see the muskegon air fair revived to se another day.

  • My friend lives like 1 minute away from the Muskegon airport so we see a lot of cool stuff wen the Air fair is going on. They didn't have it this year I believe... sucky.

  • The Air Fair is dead. Won't be back for the forseeable future.

  • whos your friend i probly kno him cuz i lived right down the street from the airport

  • I remember this. Got to hang out with the crew of that thing, and deprive them of their beer after the show.

  • looks like its walking

  • C-17's are much better, flexible, and capable than the C-5. but C-5's are cool, and C-17's are the best

  • Huh? What? I couldn't hear anything because of them General Electric TF39-GE-1C turbofans generating 43,000lbs of thrust each..and capable of swallowing 42 tons of air a minute at max. takeoff...were a little too loud. Oh...my ears...

  • I wonder how many trees and how long it takes to regenerate that much air.

  • trees don't make air

  • LMAO itsanthonyhere should change his username to isuckatchemistryandphysics

  • How do I suck at chemistry? It's photosynthesis...

  • photosynthesis consumes carbon dioxide and water and produces oxygen... it doesn't produce "air"

  • Sorry for not being so technical..usually when people iron out all the details of something, people say shit like "haha you are just a showoff trying to act like you know everything, bitch"

  • The C-5 was the biggest and heaviest plane in the world until the arrival of the Antonov An-124. Awesome sound.

  • It may not be the biggest anymore, but it held the title for almost 40 years. oh yeah, it out carried the 747 at over 1,000,000 pounds total weight using a Shuttle landing strip.

  • I live about 10 miles away from the airport, and about once a week it would fly over, just doing nothing, basically. It would fly over like 7 times in one day. But now it never comes over, I heard it left Muskegon.

But you can hear it take off, it sounds shweet.

  • Well not as big as the 225...how many 225's are there? Only one operational one. Over 100 C-5's. Over half of them are 40 years old.

  • yep exactly. They built 1 just to say we made one bigger than yours. If it was better they would have more, if it was cost effective they would have more. Simply put if it was a worthwhile jet there would be a hell of a lot more than 1!

  • i don't think so. I think it was built as part of the Buran shuttle program, and not just for one-upmanship. And it's still pretty useful. The reason no more were completed was simply because they ran out of money.

  • enorme ................. from france

  • The C-5 may not be as large as the 225 but it is a much better air plane!

  • I was there it was SWEEEEEETTTT!!!!

  • Russia got to look out for the Galaxy!

  • Guys , look at Antonov 225 and you will realize what does "the biggest" mean

  • I think the implication was biggest US made plane.

  • I wouldnt brag too much since they only built 1 total.....yep 1.

  • Holy Cow, I was in that plane that day. That was a fun AirShow

  • Great video of the FRED (F***ing Ridiculous Expensive Disaster)!! Gotta love that noise, whatever the plane's faults. Right up there with its Russian cousins!

  • TF39 was the first application of a high-bypass turbofan, now standard on airliners and low-subsonic jets. Boeing lost the C-5, made a bundle on the 747 instead.

  • Short-Field Take off, full flaps let it throttle up then roll. You can do it.

  • the ycopied the antonovs

  • Nope, you're stupid

  • Guess again, The antinov 124(production began 1982) was a copy of the c-5(production begain 1968)

  • They practice landing approaches and takeoffs for Baghdad flights at Dover. Nothing like a C-5 nose diving into a runway-and you stand 300 ft from that runway! Awesome!

  • Another fact about the GE TF-39 engines: The first stage fan is actually a "half-fan", a small diameter fan stage surrounded by the inlet vanes for the second stage fan, which is much larger.

This is the reason for the unique noise of the C-5.

  • I am a C-5 Loadmaster and the below poster is correct, the C-5 does not have, nor did it ever have Rolls Royce Engines. And to the poster remarking on "Para-drop"... We can drop WAY more than 70 and this mission is no longer performed by the C-5.

Get your facts straight before you post people.

    C-5 Loadmaster/flight examiner

    167th Airlift Wing

  • What is/are the speed(s) the C-5 normally start rotating of the runway? Also, at what speed(s) do they land?

I would imagine they vary based on payload, fuel load, and density altitude.

  • where are you stationed currently and how long have you been a loadmaster?

  • I was actually at the FBO their when this thing was taking off. It looks like it just floats away.

  • all i have is... " Big Bird "

  • TRT standing takeoff, an earthquake with a wingspan.

  • The C-5 Galaxy, designed by the Boeing Aircfrast Company. It can carry an F-16 in it, It can carry 70 Airborne Troops and can para-drop.

  • uh...no. The C-5 Galaxy was designed and built by Lockheed Martin aka General Dynamics, not Boeing.

  • Lockheed and General Dynamics are separate companies.

  • actually back in the day, General Dynamics and Lockheed were tied.

  • Most awesome plane in the Air force's fleet. A pilot told me once it had the capacity to haul 4 Greyhound buses & the people that fit in the buses!!! Rolls Royce engines on them Mu-Fu's!!

  • nope. IT's powered by 4 General Electric TF39s,which are basically early military speced CF6 engines. Only the big 747 had Rolls Royce engines as an option, not the C-5. As a matter of fact,no US military aircraft that i know of uses foreign engines except the AV-8B Harrier, which uses the Rolls Royce Pegasus F402-RR-408A

  • I know I am splitting hairs here, but it was done in the past, WWII, Rolls Royce Merlin, North American P-51 Mustang. I know it was later built by Packard under license, but Merlin engine design saved the plane.

  • It seemed like it was going so slow and then it was flying!

  • that is so sweet. reminds me of the ship in fifth element.

  • f**k off gravity!

  • Ladys and gentelmen, mother goose the flying football field.
