@UnrealNate Supposedly the blue angels will be here this summer. Blue Angel number 7 actually came here this past winter to make plans for the airshow this summer. Maybe the C-5 will be back too?
Would be nice to see the Air Fair come back ... perhaps once the economy rebounds. It wasn't the competition with Summer Cel so much they were just trying to make the Air Fair bigger than what the community would support, sadly.
i remember this. i also remember the first air show i ever went to and the last one they had in 2006. what i wouldnt do to see the muskegon air fair revived to se another day.
My friend lives like 1 minute away from the Muskegon airport so we see a lot of cool stuff wen the Air fair is going on. They didn't have it this year I believe... sucky.
Huh? What? I couldn't hear anything because of them General Electric TF39-GE-1C turbofans generating 43,000lbs of thrust each..and capable of swallowing 42 tons of air a minute at max. takeoff...were a little too loud. Oh...my ears...
Sorry for not being so technical..usually when people iron out all the details of something, people say shit like "haha you are just a showoff trying to act like you know everything, bitch"
It may not be the biggest anymore, but it held the title for almost 40 years. oh yeah, it out carried the 747 at over 1,000,000 pounds total weight using a Shuttle landing strip.
I live about 10 miles away from the airport, and about once a week it would fly over, just doing nothing, basically. It would fly over like 7 times in one day. But now it never comes over, I heard it left Muskegon.
yep exactly. They built 1 just to say we made one bigger than yours. If it was better they would have more, if it was cost effective they would have more. Simply put if it was a worthwhile jet there would be a hell of a lot more than 1!
i don't think so. I think it was built as part of the Buran shuttle program, and not just for one-upmanship. And it's still pretty useful. The reason no more were completed was simply because they ran out of money.
Great video of the FRED (F***ing Ridiculous Expensive Disaster)!! Gotta love that noise, whatever the plane's faults. Right up there with its Russian cousins!
TF39 was the first application of a high-bypass turbofan, now standard on airliners and low-subsonic jets. Boeing lost the C-5, made a bundle on the 747 instead.
They practice landing approaches and takeoffs for Baghdad flights at Dover. Nothing like a C-5 nose diving into a runway-and you stand 300 ft from that runway! Awesome!
Another fact about the GE TF-39 engines: The first stage fan is actually a "half-fan", a small diameter fan stage surrounded by the inlet vanes for the second stage fan, which is much larger.
This is the reason for the unique noise of the C-5.
I am a C-5 Loadmaster and the below poster is correct, the C-5 does not have, nor did it ever have Rolls Royce Engines. And to the poster remarking on "Para-drop"... We can drop WAY more than 70 and this mission is no longer performed by the C-5.
Most awesome plane in the Air force's fleet. A pilot told me once it had the capacity to haul 4 Greyhound buses & the people that fit in the buses!!! Rolls Royce engines on them Mu-Fu's!!
nope. IT's powered by 4 General Electric TF39s,which are basically early military speced CF6 engines. Only the big 747 had Rolls Royce engines as an option, not the C-5. As a matter of fact,no US military aircraft that i know of uses foreign engines except the AV-8B Harrier, which uses the Rolls Royce Pegasus F402-RR-408A
I know I am splitting hairs here, but it was done in the past, WWII, Rolls Royce Merlin, North American P-51 Mustang. I know it was later built by Packard under license, but Merlin engine design saved the plane.
whats the point of disliking this video?

They should at least have it every other year or every 3rd year?
liketabowl299s 2 years ago
They need to bring the airfare back. If they didnt try to have it at the same time as the summer celebration maybe it would have survived?

Well not as big as the 225...how many 225's are there? Only one operational one. Over 100 C-5's. Over half of them are 40 years old.

What is/are the speed(s) the C-5 normally start rotating of the runway? Also, at what speed(s) do they land?
I would imagine they vary based on payload, fuel load, and density altitude.
