If only they had saved an F7 - perhaps steam could have outcompeted the TGVs (well, it's a fun thought!!).
UP3985 Sept 2008 tour to Minneapolis was one of the best runs ever as there were only 2 runs that year of 3985 the break-in run to Laramie which experienced a derailed tender @ the Y and this run which was suppose to be for the RNC but was delayed for security issues. 3985 had some mods that did not work out. The old parts have been reworked and it should not smoke this much again. Thanks to TrainTapes for catching one of 3985's best runs ever & I have seen more than my fair share,This run is It

That 3985 should be strong enough to run under its own power. Why did they need the DDAX40 for?

@starguard They didn't have the DDA40X helping 3985. It was on it's way to North Platte for Railroad Days.
