  • @19chickenwings No longer, sadly- it was incredible.

  • Has Rivera also made a recording of "Firebird"? And would anyone here know who Stravinsky studied piano with?

  • @Noshirm Stravinsky studied under Rimsky-Korsakoff.

  • @Sausahga Thanks so much! (:-D)

  • pm me your email

  • Hey there again, and a Happy 2009 to you. Listening anew to Rivera's playing of this masterpiece of a transcription. It moves me more than ever. I have heard Raphling also made a transcription of the Scythian Suite of Prokofieff. I have been looking out for a disc of this work, too! Best - N.

  • Mmm... its really not my style, but is very well played.

  • HE JUMPS WHOLE OCTAVES!

This guy is insane! Awesome piano arrangement of this piece FOR SOLO! And it sounds like the orchestra just on piano lol great stuff! :D

  • Not only that but Stravinsky composed on an out-of-tune piano!!!!

  • when "glorification of the chosen one" part comes in pianist does a superhuman job

  • i've tried this. you basically have to throw your arms out and hope for the best - that you hit the right note.

  • who arranged this? I really want to get my hands on the sheet music.

  • The original version was for piano four hands, and it was first played at Mischa Sert's salon. The other two hands belonged to Debussy, who said to Stravinsky afterwards, "I wish you hadn't written this". Given the reception at the premiere, it's understandable. I like this transcription for solo though, as it's not easy to find someone to "duet" with in the original. Great piece, great performance.

  • This is an interesting piece of information!!! :-) I can hardly imagine Debussy playing such music, which must have been anathema for him! Doesn't Rivera do an INCREDIBLE job?! And can you recommend a recording of the Stravinsky version?

  • Even Stravinsky didn't try to arrange this for 1 piano 2 hands. Bravo! And it sounds much more faithful to the orchestral version than Stravinsky's 2 piano version!

  • i was thinking about this piece the other day and remembered it was first created on piano.i thought "i wonder how that must have been played using just one player and one piano, surely it would have been next to impossible to play"now here i sit watching someone play it right before my eyes.incredible!
