  • Fantastic stuff...love the part where Mary Stuart Masterson stands up, the music just makes the scene there. Which is what it's supposed to do, after all.

  • hey ridgerunner like the town of elkton as i remember it was very small with newberry's and a dollar store Now i visit elkton once a year and it gets bigger each year.

  • @TheMrtedb No kidding, I too have a place in West Va. In grant county, just south of Petersburg. And a home in Va. in madison county as well. What part of WV are you in.

  • this movie was a about a family of theives..." the johnston gang"...they broke into my grandparents garage and stole my grandfathers tractor..we lived in elkton, maryland.

  • @TheMrtedb I lived in Carrol Co. MD. Not far from Sykesville and the same thing happened to my family they stole a combine from my grand father.

  • @ridgerunner25 i lived in cecil county tell i was 18-19..i sence moved away to delaware..then philly.and now i live in westvirginia..i miss going to newberrys and stuff.

  • ,love this version good job this movie was about a special time in my life in PA. i lived there and knew the people that this effected

  • Nicely done. This was an under-rated movie with the inimitable Chris Walken as well as Sean Penn and Crispin Glover.

  • I have always loved this theme music....it is hauntingly beautiful, thank you so much for posting!

  • This is really good. It sounds like what this tune would be like if Bruce Hornsby circa 1987 did his own interpretation of the theme from "At Close Range".

  • ''You turn that damn thing on again i'll beat the jesus out of ya''....''.There ain't no jesus in me Ernie''

  • Great job, I listen to this all the time to relax!!!!!!! I love it.......

  • I have never heard this before and I love it! its not dated either!

  • NOT AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL.

  • @leedumett444 Dude, don't be a dumbass this is not TRYING to be as good as the original. It is an intrepretation........dumbass

  • Always liked this melody for some reason. Thanks for uploading.

  • Rubbish.

  • I was watching this movie for the first time earlier, and something kept looking familiar. Then I finally placed it. This is in my home town, the town square with the statue is a place I've been hundreds of times. It was kind of trippy seeing a place that I'm around all the time, thats now really nothing except the site of a shitty annual arts & crafts fair, being used as the backdrop for a Sean Penn/Christopher Walken movie, haha.

  • The ghost instrumental at the begining sets the mood to the whole movie. Superb performance from Sean Penn. They certainly don't make films like this any more. Madonna said she will always love Sean and he will remain her first

  • this isn't the opening song for my dvd. waaay too upbeat...

  • love that movie! love that song

  • This is far better than Madonnas version. I heard that Live to Tell started out as an instrumental and was given words by Madonna. Is this true?

  • Loved this. Very good piece thanx.

  • sean penn is sooooooooooooooooo hot...

  • good movie and great song

  • Mary stuart masterson, jovem e linda!

amo essa atriz, especialmente no filme "some kind of wonderful"...

  • It was Madonna's song 'live to tell' that attract me to go and watch that film.

  • Beutiful!!...and sad. Almost brings me to tears.

  • Dusting off the Audacity for this. Thanks

  • Fuckin great movie!

    Awesome song too.

  • if you can't get enough of this theme listen to: Patrick Leonard - Live to tell (version 2)...his music was used in the movie.

  • Awesome movie

  • very nice work!

  • Drums are unnecessary here. They harm the spirit of this great theme.

  • @tremayne3 I love the drums they are perfect! very 1986 too... you are unecsessary

  • This is not the original instrumental that I listened to in 1987 when I first saw the movie This is an added lighter version.

  • who the heck is doug astrop and why did he mess with this gr8 song?

  • Buddy he does a great piano rendition of this song.

  • I liked it too, but I prefer Madonna' s version. Hers has a more dramatic appealing, which fits to the movie.

  • Madonna's version is sweet. This version is kickass. And there is another instrumental version within the film itself which is kickass, scenes where the kids are at the lake.

Open your mind, babe. I have never heard a bad version of this song, but this version is possibly the most appealing to my particular ears.

  • I loved it the second I heard it.

  • good movie.

  • love you mary stuart masterson!

actress of great talent and rare beauty...

  • I agree! I loved her in Some Kind of Wonderful as Watts and all her movies following that.

  • google own youtube ,

  • AND ONCE AGIN THE YOUTUBE NAZIS STRIKE! It was a beautiful piece of music denied once again for our enjoyment

  • ???

  • very nice and accomplished, I like your approach to sound design and the way you incorporated it in the song.

  • Only in german:

It´s sounds more than good in my european ears...

  • Thanks!

  • There is an instrumental version done with piano and guitars, in the movie. It plays while the kids are swimming. Then there is the background music that is strong in the beginning of the movie, and is played every once in a while throughout the movie. Then of course there are Madonna's versions.

All of them are so lovely. Not only is this song a timeless classic, it's incredibly versatile.

Nice upload, I've not heard this version before, thanks very much. It is lovely. :)

  • Thanks for your kind words! This version is featured on my album, Audio Visual.

  • @Stropper72 Do you have that instrumental part of this song where Sean Penns gang are swimming in the lake?

  • @colshythecomedian I have it. But it is 18 minutes long...

  • @DaBootyBandit can you post it to me? please

  • the music is amazing, the lighting of this film is incredible, juan ruiz anchia did a tremendous job!!!!

  • Very true, this movie looks so amazing. And the soundtrack moving through the entire movie is so good. Underrated movie.

  • Thanks for the kind words!

  • Awesome version of the song! :) This movie had one of the best soundtracks.

  • Thanks!

  • This is very good work.

  • Thanks! I used the original opening credits from the film, At Close Range, and overdubbed my remake of the music. The original version of the music by Patrick Leonard is a bit slower. Madonna wrote lyrics to accompany his music, resulting in the hit song, Live to Tell.

  • great! i would like to know if it is the original opening of the film. thank you!
