i want this train set so badly,it looks so cool and fun to play with,i bet that loop track nowa days would be hard to replace if broken or something else happened to it
I actually remember seeing this set in stores back around 1987 or so. I never really wanted it because i though it was kinda dorky looking with the cardboard cutout buildings and the cheezy looking engine and cars.
bunbun...that was my question also how does it make the jump without getting de railed? because mine always got de railed...lol...it never made that damn jump
I got one of these for Christmas in 1987, but it was extremely hard to put together. I never could get it to work properly. I eventually just gave up on it.
The track was electrified and I got shocked a couple times when I was trying to connect track (I was only 7).
It also came with glow-in-the-dark strips you could *meticulously* try to apply to the sides of the track, but they, too, were almost impossible to apply to the track because they didn't stick very well.
Id buy it also. Sadly I got it for christmas as a kid and it wouldnt fit in my room when my mom set it up so she made me take it back and get something else
These sets have long been out of production. They were a disaster as a product as few people had the space nor could they get one to work properly. Few remain in the shape displayed in this video, hence being "rare" for collectors. And Tyco itself got out of the train business back in the early 90s, so it will likely increase in value as time goes on.
Sports Car Special by Johnny Pearson, I got it off a compilation CD called The Sound Gallery, 27 Musical Masterpieces, Volume 2. I think this is the guy who did the original Monday Night Football theme song.
I used to have this train set but i burned the motor out in the engine. I usually ran it only with 2 cars cuz it was dificult to keep it going with 3. lots of fun though. wish i still had it.
@ScrewAttackEurope - giving away your age, or lack thereof. Google "Tyco Silver Streak" or "Tyco Chatanooga Choo-Choo" for more. Tyco and Mantua were related.
i still have mine. this video inspired me to dig it out from the basement and clean it up and set it up for my 5 and 9 year old nephews and they love it. took some time to get it workable abain, had to clean track good to get to run properly. still have a few extra contacts that i bought 20 years ago, good thing to because i don't think i'd be able to get them anymore.
That was the problem when I had one. We didn't have enough space in the house to leave it set up all of the time, and setting it up was areal pain to people. So I dind't use it that many times before it eventually broke.
yeah, took some practice to figure out the track and when to squeeze/release the slot-car-style accelli-trigger. But once I was feeling it, I had several multi-lap turns. at first i could only get the engine going, then added one car, then after tracking down a wheel-and-axle part and modifying it, I was able to get the whole 3-car rig going.
You know why they don't have toys like this today? because it is not a video game, or it does'nt have Shmoo-zi-o on it or Sponge bob or something like that... Kids of today don't want to play with anything that doesn't relate to thier favorite show or game! Now, I am not that old(22) but I remember having Tonka trucks, and Playing with them in the yard year round! They need to bring back toys like these that actually require physical motor skills.....
johnny pearson? not sure right now. came off a compilation cd, superpop or powerpop of the 70s Vol. 2. pretty sure this is the same guy/band that did the original Monday Night Football theme.
sweet train set! i've got the freight version from 1988 but none of the track. cool to see one running with the loops and jump set up. thanx for posting this!!

Bunbun5789 3 years ago 2
the cars have magnets on the under-carriage which holds them to the metal track.
jamishazzard 3 years ago 2

The most beautiful thing in model railroad... and we get amazed with the European TGVs in HO scale without knowing that a marvel like this existed.
The 80's were a great period for toys.
