  • When Pet did this at Feinsteins last Friday night I fell in love all over again. Come back to NYC soon, Miss C!!!

  • I love her voice, I love this song and I LOVE THE REVERB in this performance.

  • I think I said earlier, it sounds like they filtered out her voice from original record mix and let her have at it live on stage. Aficionados of this song probably agree the music track is the original. Also, note that 1966 color cameras required BLASTING the stage with kleig lights but this lady held up like a trooper...not a bead of sweat. We are so fortunate to have this jewel of a video tape posted. At her peak as a professional.

  • wonderful song and artist!

  • This is my favortie Pet Clarke- sort of the flip side to "Downtown". This is deeper. Petula was contemptorary of Julie Andrews, even to the point of haveing been a chidl star in the 40's. She has a bit of Julie's class and elegance. If Julie Andrews sang rock, maybe she'd be Pet Clark. I love them both.

  • @44032 The actual flip side of "Downtown" was "You'd Better love Me." What's remarkable about this record is that it is one of 11 Pet Clark hits to score in the U.S. but not in her native Britain.

  • She's able to work the acoustics of that studio. Nobody like her!

  • I think I remember this song? Great voice! Simple and clear and elegant

  • Wonderful song sadly ignored by current radio.

  • The work of a true musician.

  • I don't know about the rest of you guys out there, but I about melt when this beautiful woman looks into the camera!

A natural, along with being a highly trained and experienced professional.

  • Fantastic song and superb performance! The tune was written by Tony Hatch and Jackie Trent; they've nudged out all but a very few people at the top of my all time favorite songwriters list.

  • I listened again, and I have to admit I did not realize how ambitious this song actually was. Here is the whole meaning of life in the modern world: In spite of the fact that your life feels meaningless, the world is full of strife, and your dreams are shattered, you can still find contentment and fulfillment through love. Sentimental perhaps, but with Petula Clark's deep personality behind it perhaps a believable statement.

  • Good song for her--she is very good at the uplifting song where her voice can soar. Part of it is her vocal talent (enormous) part is simply the sincerity.

  • In her song, Round Every Corner, she mentions, "soon men will walk on the Moon. That was in 1965, how about that! I know she didn't write it, but she brought it to us through her music. Loved her then and still love her now. She kept me from sleeping in the subways. . . .

  • This is timeless! sounds just as beautiful in 2011 as it did in 1966!

  • An amazing piece of video here as first generation color cameras are able to do great justice to this woman's beauty. Look at how she "works" the camera (her natural, sexy gaze into the lens.) A true pro.

I'm also impressed that it sounds like she elected not to "lip sync" the vocal part and, as I hear it, sang live over the original music mix that apparently had her voice removed.

    Am I right on this?

  • @mercury73732 You are 100% correct. It has been said 100 times before, but I wonder which female vocalist today could pull this off? I cannot think of one. Add her flawless complexion, grace, perfect feminine style, sincerity, emotional conviction, and perfect pitch---This is the apotheosis of female popular vocal performances. Thank goodness we have very good color video of this. Thus, there is no reason to watch current prime-time network television---90% of it is simply awful garbage.

  • Too bad we don't have real singing talent like this today..just a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice..No crazy costumes, and no stupid antics..just a class act.

  • This is a perfect pop tune, like Sign of the Times. The lyrics are strong, it gets better sounding as it unfolds, and Petula is fantastic. You can see that she knows she has a winner here. Did Petula write this song? I don't believe she ever struck out on one of her songs. I counted at least ten songs in the top 40 that were just wonderful and very catchy. WOW!

  • She's such a talent!

  • This is borders on "Awesome"!

  • well everyone , hear is an odd one of petulas , but, a great one . please listen closely to the words and consider ,have you ever wondered '' who am i ''. its quite clever , some lines sad ,but, ultimaetly finishes on a happy note . '' to question such good fortune '' WHO AM I . always was my pet fav tune .....enjoy ....greg ....australia

  • Compare Petula with the tongue-ringed, tatooed, postmodernist, screechy she-males that contaminate current pop music.....She simply blows them away, back into the gutter where they belong. Petula's fan base is like an international army, & you can bet that we will eventually bring Petula's level of art back to pop music. Videos like this should be compulsory viewing in public schools, nation-wide.

  • @bboucharde I totally agree with you. Petula is a very talented lady and is a class act. Today's pop music scene is a mess- they need to see these videos....Petula, you're a treasure!!!

  • Beautiful. Now I realize, like most great singers she's an actress who sings.

  • oh la la j 'adore cette chanson, moi je sais qui tu es, tu es une immense star

  • Who are you ? You're "My Love"

  • My spirit still soars when I hear this song! This was the golden age of music and performers -- and Petula Clark was, always will be, the best of them! I'm glad I lived at a time when a voice and a presence such as this filled our world. Thank you for making this available for me to enjoy again! 45 years later, still magic!

  • This was a Coke jingle by Petula.

  • She totally NAILS this song! So inspiring and uplifting! Listening to her sing makes me feel good all over!

  • what a woman!!!!!

  • Intense or what?

  • I love Petula.. one of the first singers I ever heard in English and I am proud to listen to her!!... oh all LIFE no lipsynch!! yes another thing I admire of those good old days!

  • You can't replace talent like this.

  • Petula is about as perfect as you can get!..............simply smashing!!!!

  • Wonderful! Classic Petula!

  • A fantastic voice, out of a golden age.

  • really projecting on this one, isn't she?

  • it is nearly impossible not to hear one of her songs and not feel better! I've been sad this week, and this music has helped bring me up a bit!

  • @TypesALot I totally agree with you. Can't stay sad after listening to Petula sing..her songs are a great "pick me up".

  • one of my favorite '60s singers!

  • What a voice!

  • thank you so much for putting this one up. A fab Petula Clark song!! Always wanted to see it live in the '60s and here it is at last. Again, I thank you

  • Is Petula related to Julie Andrews? They look alike

  • @ticketlady2 I don't think so but you are right, they look so alike as to be twins.

  • @ticketlady2 Second Cousins

  • I love this song! And it's amazing how much emotion Petula can pack into her performances. Many singers just sing songs; she lives them.

  • And, oh yes. Best Voice in the business!!

    We love you Pet !

  • Amen to prev comment. When this song

came out in 1966 it was my #1 favorite --

no matter what the charts said. Callers to

WPGC in Washington DC were also phoning in the hear it -- as request-a-matic would play the listeners themselves

    requesting songs...Petula was also voted

#1 female artist of 1966 by WPGC listeners , as well that year !

  • WPGC listeners had great taste to vote her #1 female artist of 1966..she is a timelass classic!!

  • I still "long to wake up in the morning and find everything has changed." A nice change would be stars appearing on the assorted red carpets actually fully clothed like this bright English star is here. I also wish people weren't so angry, rude and sarcastic. At least I remember a time when most people had faith in the future. Let's keep dreaming, hoping and working for the better days Petula Clark sings about. Peace & Love to ALL.

  • @mjcamck71 so true. People today are so troubled. You see it everywhere, especially when they're driving. On TV everyone has to be sarcastic and a put down artist. One step of everyone they're talking to.

  • @mjcamck71 I couldn't have said it any better and I appreciate you saying it. I wish the world had turned out the way I'd been told it would when I was a child.

  • One of my favorite 1960s pop songs, in groovy 1960s clothes! Cool! :-))

  • Petula truly shines..what a beautiful video..thanks for posting....

  • Wow.. No lip-synching here!

  • @pupman2 Totally awesome and I have always loved this song. One of my favourite songs by anyone.

  • @pupman2 Where's the microphone then?

  • Wow, so stunning! Thank you for posting the full video of this version of the song. Wish I could've been her fan then.
