This just ROCKS! If Rachel is listening to this and figuring it out without music, that makes it even better. Even her touch on the Piano is Emerson approved, and the tuning of the Piano is very much like the studio recording. KEEP PLAYING! I love the fact that you picked Keith Emerson and look forward to hearing more.
Very good, Rachel. Thatnks for the comment awhile ago. Yes, what I did for the California Jam is true. Check out my latest vids, you'll see/hear for yourself!
I posted in another thread(can't seem to find it right now) how impressed I was that she was doing all this without sheet music. Then I discovered why, after checking out a live performance video of hers. I am even more blown away by how gifted this girl of such a young age, is.
WOW! I am laughing with tears of joy and astonishment! That was simply amazing! You are an awesome player and I love hearing some of my most favorite music in the world covered so well! Thanks for the hard work and sharing your talent!
Rachel...I have been listening to ELP for just about 40 years now and you have left me speechless. Note for note perfect - you are amazing!!! I keep re-watching your videos every week, I never get tired of seeing you play.....just phenomenal !!!
Have you played anything from the 1st album such as Take a Pebble, or The Three Fates? Would love to see you play them. Thanks for giving me so much pleasure!
I just watched several of your videos and like every one else, I'm blown away. My instincts tell me that the gifts you have given us are only the tip of the iceberg. Do you compose your own music? If not have you considered composing? Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us.
Perhaps you should start a band with some like minded folks to start a early progressive rock movement. If you like Keith Emerson, check out the band Egg. Egg is similar in concept to the Nice as it is a keyboard dominated trio inspired by classical music, although they put a bit of a "Canterbury" spin on it making them sound like a cross between The Nice and Soft Machine.
My co workers are wondering why I'm now standing in front of my computer monitor cheering.. Truly an inspiration and a reminder that God still works miracles!
a future concert pianist? this is so good even keith emerson himself never performed it perfectly live and this is so close to perfect its unbelievable
Wow, this is INCREDIBLE, Love the drum rolls, and trying to play the steel drum sound affects on the piano, really amazing. Glad to see young folks studying Keith Emerson's great creations - keep up the outstanding work!
Dear Rachel. I'm a long time ELP fan, since 1973. And I know every note from their songs. And I felt amazed and truly happy to testify such a wonderful talent and refined musical taste. What else to say ? I'm moved. I hope Mr. Emerson take a look at you playing his songs. LOL. Congratulations !!! Ricardo from Brazil
You absolutely rule. A couple of questions: how do you learn all this material? And...are you thinking about finding an actual Hammond B3? Nobody deserves it more than you.
@nandomortani Rachel learned all of the Keith Emerson pieces (ELP, The Nice, and solo pieces) by ear. I'm sure she would love to have a Hammond and I'm sure it will happen one of these days.
You are amazing Rachel! I had the pleasure to see you perform at the Wav and you blew me away! I play piano myself but I am just starting out. I have been singing since I was 7 though! You are a great pianist and girl you can play that flute too! I hope you accomplish all your dreams :] Keep being amazing!
Here's some good news: Keith and Greg (at the Emerson and Lake concert in L.A) teased the audience a bit with "well, we've actually been working on some music", then later mentioned that we can possibly expect some more stuff from them.Personally I thought that their last album "in the hot seat" could have been a lot better. It seemed a bit anticlimactic, especially after Black Moon; it just surprised me, even though I wasn't even born yet when ITHS came out.
@12stringbabe Jeanie, perhaps it's time to introduce Rachel to Chick Corea and the phenomenal Hiromi Uehara! Rachel is just brilliant! I'll be stopping by more often! ;)
I love this piece and have been planning to start working on it. I have been considering how to work in the bass and drums for solo piano. You've done such a great arrangement - and played a tempo as this piece should be. I'm now going to study this video over and over.
Did I mention this was mindblowingly awesome? THANK YOU!!!
OMG. This is fantastic. I have been listening to this piece since 1972 and have always been floored by it. To see it performed so brilliantly by somebody that is not Emerson is fantastic. Also, am a little bit jealous that I can't do it.
Holy smokes - where did this young pianist learn to play this music? I've heard Karn Evil 9 hundreds of times but only by the composer, Keith Emerson. I'm astonished by the way she performed this piece. Incredible performance!
@Caljamscott If that's true, then hat's off to you, mister. The recordings of Deep Purple on California Jam are one of the very few where they can be heard well.
I have been an ELP fan for over 30 years. This is absolutely astonishing, not just her technical facility at a metronome-breaking speed, but her use of dynamics at such a speed. I have never seen anything like it, even from Emerson himself. Please do the rest of Karn Evil 9 (1st and 3rd impressions), Tarkus and perhaps the 1st piano concerto, too.
