To my knowledge, you can't get stuck in these games. You can even go back into Sam's personal hell if you want to.

Harry won't let you replace Timmy's file with Jimmy's. That's why you have to shoot the monster to distract him.

If you don't replace Timmy's file in time, the monster comes back to life, and Harry returns. Then you'll have to repeat the process.
