Indonesia is mostly muslim so there is a good chance that he actually does beleive in the same god as you. You simply disagree as to who was the last prophet of God. The Jewish, Christian and Muslim religios all share the same god, but differ when it comes to Christ, Mohammed etc.
Its still not being forced, its called scare tactics, that doesn't mean you know longer have free will, if you truly have no belief in a religion, then why would threats of spending eternity in hell scare you? If you don't believe in something, how can you be scared of the consequences of not following it. Even if you didn't bring your child up christian, but lived in a christian household, its likely they'll grow up believing in God, and when their older, they can make there own choices.
The Christian religion isn't supposed to be about hell, but for many it has become that. It's supposed to be about compassion and forgiveness, but because the god depicted throughout the old testament is such a tyrant the focus shifts from mercy to fear. The whole thing is based upon a fear eternal damnation. So telling your children from a young age that if they don't do X,Y,Z they will burn in hell isn't strictly forcing them, it is brainwashing. The results are the same.

However, A religion as a whole is not forced upon you, its people within the religion that force there religious values on you. So no, this is not the Devil's magic, this is a disease which he has unfortunately caught. This is why I hate super-religious people. last time i checked, giving ones heart to jesus doesn't give them "salvation". Forgivness and salvation is a gift from god through jesus christ. You're basically saying "I can give myself salvation if I repent, if I give my heart" you're leaving his grace completely out of the picture. I'm sorry but you fail at theology. well thats not completely fair. the bible does say Jesus heals but it also says God punishes us. whether he is a christian and saved or not God could just be punishing him for sin. theres hell to punish those who commit the unforgivable sin of dying without accepting Jesus as their savior but God can still punish people for their sins in their earthly life as well.

Its still not being forced, its called scare tactics, that doesn't mean you know longer have free will, if you truly have no belief in a religion, then why would threats of spending eternity in hell scare you? If you don't believe in something, how can you be scared of the consequences of not following it. Even if you didn't bring your child up christian, but lived in a christian household, its likely they'll grow up believing in God, and when their older, they can make there own choices.

The Christian religion isn't supposed to be about hell, but for many it has become that. It's supposed to be about compassion and forgiveness, but because the god depicted throughout the old testament is such a tyrant the focus shifts from mercy to fear. The whole thing is based upon a fear eternal damnation. So telling your children from a young age that if they don't do X,Y,Z they will burn in hell isn't strictly forcing them, it is brainwashing. The results are the same.

However, A religion as a whole is not forced upon you, its people within the religion that force there religious values on you. You shouldn't blame an entire faith for what a small minority do, most religions preach extremely good morals. Can you honestly say an atheist or agnostic person has never tried to force their beliefs upon you.

But it IS forced on people, namely children. If you are told from a very young age that you will be tortured for all eternity unless you believe in God, then it is being forced.  Free will does not come into it when you are under that kind of fear.

We devised stories to help reassure those of us who were scared, and to help those of us who were curious, understand.

if god is in control, then logically he is also responsible for my skepticism since he made me and everything else. if he's not responsible for my skepticism (my ability to reason), then you're saying that there are things outside of god's control. in which case we're right back at the start of this argument.

There is a large percent of the U.S and other countries that believe in God and Jesus, so it would be wrong to say Christianity is a cult. I wasn't "brainwashed" from birth, i actually became a christian when I was 22 and in college. Was totally my decision, my life just wasn't very good and I went to church one day and continued to go, I enjoyed it and believe it.
