I'm currently in the process of building a working 16-bit computer in minecraft with redpower. It will be based on the MARIE architecture (a simple type of virtual computer we used at uni for learning assembly). So far, I have a fully working 8-bit ALU, with arithmetic (add, subtract via two's complement) and logic (AND, OR, XOR, NOT) functions. Next step is the control unit to interpret the instructions, then the memory (256 bytes total, for instructions and data).
@Sande; if you're asking how long it would take to make something like this, I'd say about about 2-3 weeks of putting in about 4 hours of work on it a day. You could make something similar with less commands for the ALU in about 4-7 days
@sande3100 Don't worry about grammer on "the inter-connected tubes of magical glowing things" ( the internet ) :P.. And to the creator of this, great job!
I was wondering when I'd see someone use redpower to make a compressed version of the usually mind boggling massive circuits made with vanilla redstone.
@Wower144 This computer could not operate on a MP server without causing significant amounts of lag. The greifer would not have the patience. that and chances are this was done on single player.
Alot of people say I am good with redstone. I am pretty sure I could only do this with alot of help. MIND = BLOWN This is too amazing.... You sir, are a genius!
Now if there was a plugin that had gui rom programming and "ram chips" with large amounts of memory, then all we have to do is build CPU, and input/output things, and program the ROM through a gui!
I'm going to have to make a request for music. :P
This video is pretty interesting for me, because I've only just learned how the functionality of Assembly low level machine code is so this pretty much helps a lot.
@Eloraam Will you (in the foreseeable future) be adding things such as RGB lasers, or multi-cell blocks which will allow people to make proper screens, with all the colours and minute pixels?
@WaKeVajZet Well the problem is TMI doesn't work atm on Redpower2, it doesn't show all the blocks/items in Redpower2 :/ I was wondering how Gikosan did all the work in the vid..
@Babbao321 It works, theres a fix,but its third party one (not uploaded or coded by Eloraam),i think you can find the link in her FAQ.Not so sure about it working in 1.0.0 version of RP (PR4 one),but for PR3 there is one for sure.
@Babbao321 You could use Single Player Commands, which would also enable you to reset the time to day so you wouldn't have to fumble around in the dark.
@BigusGeekus TMI does it too and its a bit more pratical than single player commands, however no problem, someone did a patch to use all items in rp2 with tmi :)
Why is this so slow? Shouldn't redpower make these things run faster?!
brett122798 5 days ago
My redpower computer runs at 2 Hz :). I'll probably make a video about it soon
frost414 6 days ago
We NEED a mod to change the tick step size. 60 ticks per second would be enough. 0.25 Hz to 1.5 Hz would be a huge leap in redstone computing.
Dark0Lord7 2 weeks ago
Can you tell me how to use singleplayer commands with this mod?
Because when i youse it it doesn´t copy the redpower stuff.
