Thank you for posting this.  My father was in Japan on leave serving with Australian Army during the Korean War, he came home with the 45 record, I remember listening to it with him when I was very young. I often wondered about the translation, it's sad but beautiful. The modern version is good as well, but I prefer the original sung in Japanese. My father has passed, but when I listen to this I can't help but have happy memories, even though the song is so sad. Thank you again!!!!

I lost her to Cancer after 38 years of marriage. Having four beautiful daughters. It is a longing yet happy song. Now, I look up!

I love this version and thanks for the English translation. It's so wonderful to be able to understand what the song's about. I have always hated the 'English' version, simply because I didnt' think that the words were the real translation, just made up to fit the music, and sound good.

@FeelsLike32 I think it was probably translated with western thought processes in mind. I notice those things from many years ago when I was still fluent in Japanese, but now I don't really care. I just enjoy the song, and whatever my remaining Japanese allows me to understand!
