  • He could have done well with this one had it been professionally recorded for release. In this version he is pretty much behind the harmonies, but there are hints of what he may have done with it.

  • the first picture is waouuuuuuuuuuu !

  • i juz got off all over the place listening to this un" LOL

  • ELVIS FOREVER!!!!!

  • JACKIE -THANKS again for letting us post your video for our ELVIS celebration! We were just listening to it again today. Elvis also recorded a song I wrote for him called THE DYING EMBER with the kids around. This was before Dorsey Burnette recorded it. It hasn't appeared yet on any Youtube videos though Dorsey's version was up for a while. Wes Bryan

  • beautifully done.! I will never tire of this song . this version is exceptional.. i have to say

  • The king forever.

  • Backgrand music=from {Sing s song with a kingston trio}LP,I am huge Kingston Trio

fan . And The KING too. So,i'm so happy !!! 500 Miles=KT version was reached No.5 in Japanease hit chart in 1965.

  • Thank You for posting this. He will always be the King and I miss him so much.

  • We would like to post your video on WES BRYAN-MY LIFE IN MUSIC as a tribute to Elvis Presley who I was friends with for 20 years shortly, as we are dedicating this month to Elvis for his birthday. This song reminds me of the singing at Elvis' parties - so many voices singing along with Elvis. Elvis had a home recording studio at Graceland... Don't know if I can ID where this was recorded... THANK YOU Wes Bryan

  • @CTNWB Thank you. It would be my honor. ELVIS FOREVER.

  • @Jackiej61too Great 1966 home recording from Elvis!

  • Great !!

  • sweet pineapple expess

  • This is a beautiful song.

    Elvis loved it.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful video with us.

    The pictures are prime Elvis.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • This is goddamn awesome and goes to show how much the KING loved music. There never was anyone like him - and there never will be.

  • what a beautiful song!...the sweet female voice you can hear, may quite possibly be kathy westmoreland......and that unmistakeable 'deep' bass voice belongs to j.d. sumner

  • Thank you for this beautiful song.

Elvis always has a song for every moment.

    Good video!

  • Old elvis sogs all ready.

Why don't try to keep up?

  • the king of music!!!

  • o CANTOR MAIS COMPLETO DO MUNDO ATÉ HOJE!!!!!!!!!

  • Beautfiul- terrific job and georgeous photos!!! I lived 500 miles from Graceland..My first trip my friends and I had worked all night in the local Cotton Mill. We drove through rain that 500 miles, for the weekend to find out Elvis wasn't home!! It was like the gates of Heaven opened up when we walked onto his driveway, thanks to Cousin Harold.. This song is SO very special to me- thanks again for posting. Keep 'em coming

  • So beautiful- and I was so sure I had heard every song Elvis ever sang- since 1956.. I lovve it- please keep posting !! The pics are outstanding!!

  • Beautiful! THE KING FOREVER!

  • So Beautiful

  • OMG... why 49 ratings down... Oh, i know, so many deaf people :((

  • Lord have mercy on the ones who listen this song :((((

  • Really fascinating hearing him just being part of a group and not being the lead like he usually is.

  • Fantastic post, many thanks. This is a great example of the fact that The King always wanted to be a Baritone singer, even from a very young age, though the irony is that this man could sing Any song and interpret it in a very unique way.

Man, what a voice he he had.

Although he was indeed Blessed in many, many ways. I'll never hear a voice quite like his in my life time, of that I am sure.

I also dont think that anyone person will influence and touch the world in quite the same way.

  • i love this song!

    *****

    thank you!

  • Fantastic document, Jackie. Thank you very much for sharing this.

  • bellissima!

  • Is this on the Home Recordings CD? A beautiful take.

  • This is so beautiful, I've actually been moved to tears.

  • you tube will live for a 1000 years.

  • Cantado por Elvis é demais....

  • Hedy West, Bobby Bare, and Charlie Williams are also often cited together as songwriters. I like PP&M's version, as well as The Bros 4. But, as an Elvis fan, this home recording is especially precious and poignant.

THANK YOU for this beautiful vid.

  • I love this recording, there's just something amazing to the sound of this. Great pics. as-well.

  • i believe the woman is Linda Thompson but i could be wrong.great

  • WOW :-))) So nice to hear Elvis version. Check out the 1958 - 60 version on my channel.

  • Thankyou Jackiej61too, and thankyou King of Music.

  • And, what's more... this goes to show that the KING always kept his innate love for music - despite all the crappy movies in which he was starring at that time.

In other words: His incredible talent didn't die or evaporate during the sixties. It just lay dormant. His ambition to become a respected Hollywood star like his idol James Dean made him forget who he truly was: the one and only KING who could sing like no other.

  • The deep voice that sometimes comes to the fore sounds like Johnny Cash. He sometimes sounded as if he had a cold.

  • so beautiful listening to his great voice and the back singers, but very sad at the same time too, what an artist he was, unbelievable he had to die so early, still miss him to this day when listening to music

  • Who is te girl singing?? Priscilla??

  • All the stars in the sky....

  • It may be Vernon, but Gladys had already passed when this was recorded in 1966.

  • i like this!!!

    from fukuoka japan♪♪♪

  • @ultramanyudai who is the female voice at the back, it's just so beautiful all together, did listen to it over and over again. just think that the whole group is death by now, how very sad

  • I also think so.

    from hukuoka japan.

  • Just Beautiful Jackie!!

I Love the photos you used!! Many ********

    Love Phyllis

  • This is really good but you need to hear The Seekers sing this!

  • This is a gospel song. Elvis isn't trying to be the "star". He's just singing and it's wonderful. If I had a breakfast place, this would be the song I would chose for Sunday morning. He's just a great gospel singer.

  • Great...:o)

  • Peter, Paul and Mary popularized this song in 1963. This is a great version of this song! Elvis is King!

  • lovely song simple but effective elvis does a great version

  • "500 Miles" is generally credited to folk singer Hedy West who adapted the song from an old folk song.

I never heard this version before. It's great!

The Bobby Bare song "500 Miles From Home" was written by Bare and only he knows whether it was based on this song. He said it wasn't.

  • holy molly such easy chords and such a powerful song, unbelievable ,could play this song non stop ,amazing

  • I love Elvis singing this song. Just great! *****

  • bobby bare does an awesome version of this song too. check out his...he does the solo version with back up singers too.

  • i only knew the "peter, paul and mary" version of this song! thank you so much for posting this! :)

  • I love this song, i often heard RIO singing it, but i didnt kno elvis sang it. Wonderful!

  • Elvis, your humility brings tears to my eyes

  • What humility?

  • i didn't know this song.... i like it very much...

  • I love this song too because my english teacher sing this song with us and it´s sooo nice i love you elvis

  • Hilarious to hear Elvis try to sing harmony and just blend in not being center stage....

  • Elvis was indeed blessed in many ways - his peerless voice being just one of them !

Shows his range nicely here, as he's singing Tenor I think (someone more knowing in these things will correct me if im wrong i'

    feel certain of that !).

    Quality.

  • When ELVIS sing, it not strange, but MAGICAL, and y love this too ...

    Venicio

  • elvis 's voice is strange , but if he was elvis , i love him !! haha

  • didn´t know this song thanks

  • I LOVE this song so very much!!! Just heard it the first time a few weeks ago, and it's BEAUTIFUL!!!! Great vid Jackie :):)

  • This is a home recording of Elvis from 1966; I am not sure if he is in Hollywood or at Graceland-I have seen both credited. I do not know who the woman is, but the man is probably Charlie Hodge, as he sang harmony with Elvis on many recordings in the 1960s and 1970s, and lived at Graceland. Elvis is singing the low part. This song is available on In A Private Moment.

  • @Jackiej61too I THOUGHT HE SANG THIS WITH LINDA.

  • @Jackiej61too I believe that one of the backup singers could be Charlie Hodges but I am certain the other two is J.D. Sumnter and Kathy Westmoreland.Like you I'm not sure either where this was recorded cause Elvis was always singing and recording informally with his band no matter where they was wether in LA or home at Graceland. Whenever he and they were together there was always a good times and lots of singing going on.

  • This is such a very beautiful song. The first ones to ever record this song were the folk group "The Journeymen" in the very early 1960's. "The Journeymen" had a major hit with this song. I'm so very glad that there's a recording of Elvis singing it. I've owned this Elvis home recorded performance on CD since 2000. I've always liked Elvis' home recorded performance of it a whole lot. This video was absolutely perfect in every way, 10 Stars as always Jackie.
