  • Muhammad Ali was the biggest self promoting, cockiest, annoying heavyweight boxer ever. Granted he had tremendous skill but it was overshadowed by his mouth. A true boxer knows what he s capable of and chooses to show it and be humble rather than talk it and be unsportsmanlike in the ring. You can be exciting and carasmatic without shooting your mouth off all the time, being a publisity whore, saying things that were just ridiculous, then making excuses when you get your ass whooped.

  • Man oh man Foster was sure open for a left hook at :16

  • this guy had more heart than mayweather will ever have

  • Bert Sugar's narration is nothing short of brilliant.

    What a time for boxing!

I would love to see what any of the top heavy weights of the time could do in a fight against the Klitshkos.

  • Boxings a sad sport. So many people go in and never get their full recognition. I had no idea that he beat Ernie Shavers and Ron Lyle.

  • game fighter all the way that give the audience more then their monies worth.

maybe not the best, but dame close. REST IN PEACE...................................

  • @sirenesqueful Foreman would have knocked Quarry out, no doubt. Quarry was very tough with a good chin, but he would have been overwhelmed by Foreman's devastating power.

  • Excellent parody of Muhammad Ali.

  • ironic to hear foreman say how he avoided quarry when quarry lost badly to two guys who were utterly annihilated by foreman...styles make fights i guess

  • DAMN! Quarry does a good Ali impersonation, lmfao! Hell of a fighter and not a bad comedian either, lol.

  • @xBMF9000x He was also in I Dream of Jeannie.

  • Quarry was one tough Irish person - that was always up for a fight......

kind of like my ex wife Joan. I know from painful personal experience why these people are called...

    The Fighting Irish

  • Jerry Quarry was the greatest fighter to never win the Championship.

  • rocky was 1976 and quarry came back in 1977

lol rocky inspired thousands of boxers

  • Man I never really heared of this guy before but man.. he must be one of the toughest guy that ever stepped into a boxing ring..

The Irish can be proud of him for sure

  • @bartosx omfg people booing for the ten rings

they should be shot human scum

  • quarry in his prime would have knocked out norton ,

  • PLEASE somebody tell me the song at 5:50 PLEASE its important i assume its from 3dog night?

  • People always talk can about can Tyson beat Ali. I say before he fights Ali, Tyson has to get throught Quarry. Sorry folks Quarry beats Tyson any given day. Quarry one of the best to step into to the ring.

  • @Rasclot222 lol

  • @Robstailey I guess your laughing at my spelling. LOL

  • i think for jq the problem was in bad managment

  • @MrGelipter And bad luck

  • Good program. Honest.......and just a side note. Does anyone like the changes YouTube has made? Anyone having any slight issues with the changes?

  • Poor Quarry. I like seeing the ex fighters talk about the fights.

you are shit as larry holmes

  • you ses just like biggest loser ever. you self noTHINK and you train gonna down greatests boxers but you STILL pathetic coward worm not high.

  • hahaha pathetic fucking clown!! FOREMAN?¿ LOOOLL FOREMAN WOULD RAPE QUARRY LIKE A BITCH.

joe frazier destroyed quarry, foreman raped frazier.

quarry was a short puncher like joe,

cus damato said "any short puncher would not have chance with foreman" fucking idiots.

  • ...his impression of Ali is spot-on! Very funny. Quarry was a true warrior. Bless his soul...

  • a true warrior, a real bad ass, and a great fighter, first an foremost.

  • Quarry gave his all in the ring.He gave us more than our moneys worth, and never cowarded or ducked anyone. Though not big he is not as small as people say. These guys cut weight to get down to their 202 or whatever. They would not dare come in the ring with all of that bulk on them like todays fighters!!

  • Anybody thinks Klitchko can compete with Muhammad Ali or frazier. Stupid to believe so. Today's Heavyweight champion is a fake and too slow to punch and counter punch. I think Jerry is born to fight in the peak year of heavyweigh fight encompassing Frazier, Foreman, Quarry, Patterson, Shaver, Ron Lyle, Ken Norton, Chuvalo. Even in the time of Hoe Louise or marciano there are less great fighter than in the 70's.

  • the time of marciano is shit, marciano was shit.

  • "He would have beaten Rocky Marciano too"

I love JQ just as much as the rest of u , no need to glorify him more in death , than he deserved in life . I don't think that would b appreciated by him .

JQ was a top contender , lost many fights that he himself would admit where boneheaded (Chuvalo), cut 2 easily & being a counter-punching , this put him at a disadvantage when he have to 'take 1' to 'get 1 in' .

As Architect I worked on his (former) house in Cowan Hts. very beutiful .

  • I agree with you OboxerU. Foreman ? VERY knowlegeable as obviously he knows what it's all about. A peak JQ.....DEFINATELY gives a 70's GF problems simply because he was a naturally gifted counter puncher. Foreman himself say " JQ was one fighter I avoided". Can't get much higher praise than that really can you ?

  • It is often said that Big George was "too" complimentary of his former opponents in his "second life." Not in Foreman's assessment of Quarry. I have talked to Quarry's former associates who have nothing to gain right now, and they say Jerry handled George like a kid in sparring sessions.

  • As a continuation of my reply:

Foreman often used Jerry Quarry's incredible stand against Joe Frazier in their first fight as the basis for his comment that he wanted to fight Frazer for the title, but "...hoped that Joe Frazier 'die'first." That was Jerry at his best. And George never forgot that. Foreman knows.

  • lool cking clown liar

"Jerry handled George like a kid in sparring sessions."

i have the email of foreman, HE SAID TO ME WHAT IT IS LIE!!!! fucking liar!!!

  • Brilliant fighter was Jerry. Both he and his brother Mike went the same way......Via pugilistica dementia.Another brother cared for Jerry right up til then end.Whoever gave Quarry a licence to fight back in 1992 should be shot. The frame of hime @ 45 bouncing up and down in the ring with the broken down body of a 65 year old is awful. R.I.P Jerry.Never a champion but in my eyes an all time great!

  • He fought that last fight in Colorado, where the boxing laws are lax at best and non-existent at worst. I own a very grainy bootleg of that fight and it is ugly. Jerry gets torn apart by this nobody in front of a handful of people for about $1,050. It is sad. It is worse than the last of Ali's fights for me, becuase at least there is the satisfaction of Ali's accomplishments. Kudos to Foreman for giving Jerry a great deal of respect.

  • not enough head movement but had lots of heart,2-much still a legend but but would get destroyed in this age of boxers he;s top five white heavyweights of all time

  • No way would Quarry have lost to the contenders and pretenders of today. That's like saying that Ali and Frazier would barely get through the jokers of today. With grandfathered reverence aside, Quarry at his best would have beaten Marciano and Dempsey. Let's not take his losses to Ali and Frazier as losses against ordinary men. Guys like the Klitchko brothers are circus clowns to the heavies of the 60s and 70s.

  • Good Ali impression lol

  • nice video met him once great guy god rest jerry quarry

  • Jerry Quarry would have taken Jimmy Ellis without a problem had he not gone into the fight with a broken back. Other fighters wouldn't have even taken the fight with a sprained thumb, let alone a broken back. I truly believe, as a matter of styles, Quarry would have beaten Ken Norton (in Jerry's prime) and George Foreman. Even over the hill, Quarry gave a prime Norton a hell of a fight. He would have beaten Rocky Marciano too. Quarry never should have fought Norton and Frazier (the 2nd time).

  • i want to see a movie made of his life

  • Quarry was so unlucky to be in the same era as the likes of Ali, Frazier, Foreman & Ellis.

Definitely one of the greatest heavyweights never to take the world title. If there were four belts up for grabs in those days, Quarry would have had one of them.

This guy would have beaten Marciarno!

  • He brought alot of excitement to Southern California, as well as boxing in general. Don Dunphy said it best. Quarry only lost to the very best in that era. He will be remembered.

  • Excellent post. Jerry Quarry came at a time when the heavyweight division was very deep in talent, yet was able to compete at a top 5/top 10 level for many years.

  • Jerry was the fucking man.

  • Saw a film of Jerry doing push ups with his chin. Tough guy, only 197 lbs. with a 64" reach. He would do very well in today's game.

I also remember Jerry telling some ringside writer that he was going to drop Earnie Shavers right in his lap. Damn if he didn't!

    RIP Jerry.

  • A truely underestimated fighter. What a heart did this man have.

    R.i.P

    Jerry

  • Jerry Quarry would be champion today. He fought the best and was really the people's champ.

  • awsome stuff, If jerry was around today he would win a world title with guts alone.RIP Jerry.

  • Outstanding!!!! I thought Bert had some bad comments about Jerry in the 70s

near the end of Jerry's career. I'm happy he did this piece because it puts him in

a better light in my mind. Well done with no punches pulled but with some respect for a VERY VERY GOOD fighter. Thanks!

  • what a great piece...

  • Great documentary.Thanx for posting.

I've never understood WHY those boxers keep coming back once they retited. What a shemeful and tragic ending!!

  • Haha, his Ali impression is really hilarious 'cause it's so spot on.

  • Yeah, I never knew he did this. It was damn good! Never knew he had such a sense of humor.

  • Fantastic!

  • every boxing fan should watch this!
