  • James Brown: One of a kind!

  • Live performance; just amazing. I miss the days when soul artists actually sang with power and played real instruments. Now you just have some weak voice with a lame backing track. I

Every Saturday, 12:00-1PM WPIX TV New York was the place to be for me for Soul Train. I don't think most us realized back then what great stuff we were watching and we took it for granted.

RIP Don on the other side. I'm sure there will be some jam with JB and all your other friends who have passed on.

  • Went searching for Soul Train after hearing of Don Cornelius' suicide, which is very sad. Of course Jame's comes up, and I hope those two are having a cocktale in heaven right now. They both made a LOT of people very happy in their lives and their energy and it's just really sad right now. They are both missed, and they were both unique.

  • R.I.P. DON..... but WHY????????

  • Someone stated in their comments as James Brown being the Black Elvis,I personally never seen Elvis on a competive level with GFOS,sure he was paid more for his performances being white,Brown worked a long time before getting $10,000 a show, something Elvis was getting a long time and more in some cases making movies put him in more demand, but all n all they had ELVIS we had the GFOS as our mentor

  • He's an American Icon ! The Fabulous James Brown *

  • add me as friend FunkensteinJr i like ur vids!

  • freaking awesome <3

  • Is Bootsy Collins and the "original JB's" playing here? Anyone know?

  • @CashMoneyMoore: Bootsy isn't on any of these performances. Bootsy wasn't in the original JB's. He was in the second JB's. Eventually James rehired many of the original JB's and some of them are in this whole video. They are Jimmy Nolen (guitar), Jabo Starks (drums), St Clair Pinkney (tenor sax). Maceo Parker on alto sax is an original member and he can be seen at the end of this video. The bassist you see until "Papa's Mess" is Charles Sherrill. From then on it's Fred Thomas.

  • Absolutely amazing. I'd hug you for posting this

  • I wish I had 12 arms, that way I could give this 24 thumbs up! Excellent

  • @bigpappamack79 12 arms=12 thumbs. But agreed.

  • grande goodfather

  • What an absolutely amazing compilation, the whole thing flows like one set - this was an instant favourite, to think I came online to watch some funky soul train dancing and ended up stumbling on this bad boy.

    Love it.

  • Black is beautiful!

  • AWESOME!!! Thanks soooooo much for posting this! =)

If you want a good laugh check out Eddie Murphy, "Delirious", the part about singers. He does a FANTASTIC James Brown. Very respectful how he pays homage to some of the greats, especially the "Godfather". Sadly so many so-called artists have raped his music. Hey check out those dance moves at 05:45 - hey.....

  • Legend, great post!!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this LEGEND!!! God Bless you!!!

  • TIMELESS GODFATHER!!!

  • This was the high water mark for American music culture! The JB's with Fred Wesley, and Maceo Parker defined funk for the future. This was what Saturday mornings looked like for me as a child. Thank you FunkJr fo the memories!!!

and it would go down well with a lil remix for the young ones

thank you for the upload. i feel gooooooood x

  • look at the second drummer at 12:10 hahah. JB shouldve gave him the good foot up his rear end.

  • Great to see all of these in the same video. I wonder if there are more JB performances on Soul Train that aren't here, because this is only 44 minutes out of 2 or 3 appearances doing the entire show.
