What a sad ending. Great movie though. I can't believe this was in the 70s and 80s. It really shows how easy it is to dehumanize any one. But I really enjoyed it. Thanks for posting!
@girlygirlyblonde Don't get me wrong, there are things in this movie dog pound can't even touch, I am not saying it is a better film, but I felt dog pound did carry the story a little better. Also I don't think dog pound was awful.... I thought it was good for what it was, a modern day adaptation of a great old film, I'm not saying it was perfect but it met its mark. May I add the sound track was great :)
i prefer both versions of SCUM. i like the scene where Carlin kicks the shit out of Banks by dunking his head in the washbasin and repeatedly kicking him in the goolies...extremly painful, violent and funny all in one scene..Roy Minton is a genius when it comes to writing films like SCUM.
the remake was certainly not over done, the harsh violence in the remake defined the film and crafted its moral message, acting is great in both but if you want the harsh reality of what the movie really brings to the table i would suggest the 1979 version.
@Pulpedtoafiction31 It's more true to life, the film version is over-done, this is a sort of docu-film that tries it's best to reveal how terrible borstals were under the punitive approach of the 70's and 80's.
@1977Scum I think the film is much better, I remember seein this version on telly when they showed it for the first time in the 90s, I had seen the film first and thats the one i was used to. I couldnt belive how shit David Threlfall was as Archer compared to Mick Ford, I thought he was that bad that I made a mental note of his name, i came across him in ' Men of the world' and then when Shamless first came out I couldnt watch it because of him. After a while I got used to him in Shamless.
@1977Scum We need to bring the punitive approach back! Those scumbags looting jd sports need to learn a lesson! I've sent a letter to the daily mail btw.....
