hey thanks for your reply. do you have to prime the pump before starting? have you tried any other fluids? Is there a way to clean out the casing to pump other things?
Nice work! have you done any work to vary flow and head? I was thinking things like adjusting the distance between the disks, number of disks, diameter of the disk, size of the inlet.... Also have you done any efficiency calculation? Also it would be interesting to know how and if the affinity laws apply to this type of pump.
@skarlos67 no, not at those speeds any way, as we have a 1980's California Cooperage hot tub setup and it has a 1 hp 1ph two speed pump and it pumps over 55 gpm at the same 3450 rpm, and it produces way over 5 psi, but if this was running at higher rpms it would be way better, i don't know about efficiency though as the impellers in pool pumps are very efficient, but this way more cool : )
have you ever tried higher rpm's ? I think if you had a faster motor you'd need less hp (i.o.w it would be more efficient) the reason I say this is because tesla mentions somewhere that these things worked best from 30.000rpms and up, the turbine anyway (maybe not the pump)
@tinkerman01 I am thinking about building a tesla water pump like yours using 3-way 4inch PVC with 2inch inlet/outlet. Do you think we can do it with PVC fitting? What is the space between each dish? How did you hold the dishes and washer together? Is there any water leak in your pump? Can you show us the detail of the rear part where you put the bearing? Looking forward to see the new version of our pump!!! :)
@KFarmily PVC Fitting? Any thing is possible, if you want it to work bad enough. The disks are pinned and bolted from the center shaft. No leaks ,it has shaft seals that protect the bearings. I don't plan on posting any further pictures at this time. I have found that .040 inch spacing is best for water.
hi are you noticing any heat generation inside the housing as the water atoms are nano electro magnets (hydrogen positive and oxygen negative) tesla knew all about water hammer and waters fueling and electricity production but suppressed..it should be water hammering like the griggs motor if set up to make it pummel (reverse the flow and where it centre vortexes that should be the heat source..........

Holy cow that's awesome!! Does the motor you're using have high torque or do you know the torque rating on it? I'm looking to make a pump a little smaller but I only want it to push about 1-2GPM, did you have any calculations for which HP-rated motor to use so I can figure out which one I need to use? Thanks!
@RDKamikaze Did you check out my smaller 1.5inch pump. I started out with the 1.5 pump using various drills and in the video a die grinder. See me channel for more vids. Yes the motor is very torquey.
@tinkerman01 I didn't notice the die grinder one was you until now lol! I had the small one in mind as an exact replica of your die grinder version. Where did you get the platters for the small edition pump? Could you PM me with info or how you built it at least, I am super interested!
I make no efficiency claims other than what you see in the video.
The flat disk pump has no blades or fins that cavitates the water therefore it doesn't create the heat that a bladed impeller style pump would produce. Logically thinking it should be more efficient, but I will leave that to the experts in math. There is an equation to figure the efficiency of a pump but I haven't tried to calculate it.
Lastly, no, you could no use this as a turbocharger.
How did you make a custom pump housing, or did you buy one?

@ysh2272 The pump housing was from another application that I modified for this pump

Sandy well water I mean
lbdavisjr 1 month ago
I wonder if dandy well water would effect this pump or dry runs.
lbdavisjr 1 month ago
@lbdavisjr It could pump solids if no larger than the set disk spacing. Dry runs would most likely burn up the shaft seal.

Tesla turbines need much higher RPM, gear it 10:1 use same motor and you will be blown away at how much water it will pump.

@1NRG24Seven Thanks for the comment. Yes I am aware of the rpm needed, my smaller pumps I drive above 10,000 rpm's and are very impressive.

@MrDieseltwitch Been working on these designs about two years. Check out my other videos.

the tesla turbine is the most eficient?

@happyfox711 Yes I have tried higher rpms. The pump and the turbine is very different.

You should add a couple off ram pumps on the end. It would be a nice experiment :)

How does the efficiency and performance compared to conventional pump?
Does the water heats up same as a torque converter operation?
Also, could I made a turbocharger for my car with this design?
Too curious...
