@Mumrikken7 Uh yeah, a Squarehead is someone from Norway, not from America. Also since this is an American site at least put it in English so everyone else can read.
@BILLBKLYN Uh yeah, a squarehead can be whoever i call a squarehead. Also since this is a Norwegian video about a Norwegian dance and Norwegian tradition, you could at least show respect for it. 'everyone else' does not mean 'american', you know? :) LEARN ANOTHER LANGUAGE, then argue.
OH! I really like it! tehe :D My name's Christopher and I'm from Puerto Rico. I was wondering if to learn how to dance like that really takes a lot of time. Though, it doesn't really matter, but... how do you deal without getting dizzy? tehe And the kicking was kinda funny, too. tehe :)))))
The unique things for Halling I suppose you would have to practice for yourself by watching youtube or actually taking a trip to Norway.
Since your in Puerto rico, I guess you could start with practicing Capoeria, that way you could learn most of the tricks, the kicking and the dizzyness from circular movement would go away ;D
Can anybody indicate me any book (of demoanthropological "substance") about this dance? I'm an italian anthropology undergraduate and I'd really like to know more about Hallingdans(perhaps in the offing of an exhaustive research about it). Thanky you for reading -and sorry for my english-
Are you just trying to find information about the dance i.e technique ++, or are you looking for historical information? i.e it origin, and cultural background?
The dancer is Sigbjørn Rua. He has been Norwegian national champion in this dance a number of times. He was one of the dancers dancing with Alexander Ryback in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest.
I from Russia and me seem style of dance is similar to Russian national dancings. Look dance of sailors "apple", in the basis it is pure folk, become by dance of seamen.
For those who don't read Norwegian: The guy dancing is Sigbjørn (not Sigmund) Rua from Jondalen (Numedal, Buskerud) Norway -- not far from Kongsberg. He dances with a group called Småjondolene. He is also a member of the FRIKAR dance company and was one of the backing dancers with Alexander Rybak in Norway's Melodi Grand Prix and, later, the Eurovision song contest. He is a "Class A" (Master class) dancer in Norway. He won 2nd place in the 2009 Norwegian national halling (laus) competition.
Speaking of promoting national culture:D: we also have this type of acrobatic man-solo in our folkdance. If you're interested, search for "kalotaszegi verbunk", "kalotaszegi legenyes" or "kalotaszegi táncok". Enjoy:)
