Can't wait to see you in Cleveland Michael! 2 years ago at the House of Blues was one of the most high energy loving shows I have ever been too! (I have attended 100's of shows) Kudos for this benefit, looking forward to donating. Namaste ~:-)
Each act of kindness and compassion, be it shoes or water has the capasity to reduce suffering and increase joy. Each vollentary act on behalf of the least of us moves us just one step closer to each other, with each step we grow and widen our community of light and life workers. So, yes, drill wells, donate to groups to immunize, feed and clothe all whom you can and remember to stay human.
No offense intended, but shouldn't charities focus on providing clean running water, immunizations, and other basic health needs?
Honestly, while it might seem strange to people in developed nations, people have gone barefoot since the beginning of man... feet toughen and (as Michael demonstrates) you can live a functional life sans shoes.
Yet people in extreme poverty often lack very basic needs and frequently die of diseases (like TB and diarrhea) that we don't even consider a threat.
@IANsE91 I understand where you are coming from. However, walking barefoot could cause cuts and blisters. Children living in under-developed nations could contract diseases through the sores on their feet. While clean water, food, and other things are at the top of the list of issues to be addressed, shoes are also pretty high up on the list too...You have a good point, though.
@IANsE91 No offense but are you saying only the desperately hopeless ones should receive any attention. Cause that's silly. Charities are meant to help the needs of others, small or great. Charities also gives others the opportunity to help with whatever they have. No one has to have tons of money or a specific item or come from a specific class to give.
@IANsE91 P.S. Shoes main function is to protect the feet from injury and diseases. A good way to not get injuries and diseases is prevention.
I sincerely mean no offense to your theory but it bothers me to see history repeat over and over again: helping only when there's a crisis or only those in desperate need and ignoring the others. We can be our brothers keeper before desperation comes.

@IANsE91 Actually people who never wear shoes have healthier feet.
In the case with shoes from China, (sold at Wal Mart) they have a card
inside stating: "Made from Industrial Waste Products". Many people I
know have had their feet poisoned with who-knows-what chemicals
the Chinese manufacture shoes from. Their feet break out in sores &
rashes, so if you are going to send 3rd world kids shoes,
DO NOT BUY THEM FROM WAL MART!
The kids would be better off barefoot.
