What makes Sem Schilt so skilled? He looks slow and sloppy to me, yet he wins so many fights and has many championship belts. I'm not hating on him, I respect him, I'm just confused since he doesn't look as technically proficient as other fighters. I doubt it's just his size advantage. His kicks are technically difficult. Get it wrong and you break a metatarsal bone or dislocate a toe. Both have happened to me. Then his jab is different in that he puts his weight into it with a downward motion, result is knockout power in a simple jab. Then the his near perfect clinch-knee when close. That was so good, that the K1 banned it in 2009.
Sem Schilt has been te man to beat for years in K-1. The guy has little star appeal. Still, I don't think he ows his succes only to his size. Schilt has skills. Aerts really did good here, I didn't expect anything like this to happen. Although Schilt totally wore him out, easy pickings for Overeem. Schilt was obviously in better condition.
A final of Schilt vs Overeem would've been much better. Overeem likely would've lost 9 minutes of long range warfare like Schilt provides time and again.
It kinda sucks to see a fighter win a tournament not so much on his own skills, but on his opponents cancelling eachother out.

This was awesome live. Best fight of the night, broke Semmy's streak, and coincidentally gifted Overeem that GP title he'd been pining for so he can go on to wreck all the MMA heavyweights.

@thaboss32 schilt is far harder to beat than hari, overeem or hoost. just look at his record man. he has beaten all the best guys convincingly. i like hari more than schilt. but face it, schilt is the toughest to beat.

@redblazerpea he beat hoost in 06 in his retirement fight, he beat hari in a tournament final, when he wasnt fresh, the names he beat dont really stand out as champion caliber people for the most part, he beat the greats as they were older but i doubt he'd do it in their prime, i doubt he beats overeem, badr, or aerts fresh, having already lost to a fresh hari and aerts

@kickboxvictor peter had to beat an untrained mighty mo first round while overeem fought a very close match with spong, you cant blame overeem or call him lucky that his opponents in the semis and final were hurt, perhaps if they had fought differently they wouldnt have been hurt/tired, after all this is a tournament

Aerts really did good here, I didn't expect anything like this to happen. Although Schilt totally wore him out, easy pickings for Overeem. Schilt was obviously in better condition.
A final of Schilt vs Overeem would've been much better. Overeem likely would've lost 9 minutes of long range warfare like Schilt provides time and again.
It kinda sucks to see a fighter win a tournament not so much on his own skills, but on his opponents cancelling eachother out.

@Blahb27 overeem is a hell of a fighter, but Aerts took such a beating in this fight. you can see his nose gets broken, and i heard he was coughing up blood after the fight. Yet he still went on to fight arguably the baddest man on the planet. Peter Aerts has so much heart it's inspiring.

All arts, all disciplines & styles, it is the skill and indurance of the best fighters that see them through to the final. Aerts? top fighter, deserves to be in K-1 history...but lets not give excuses for him, I have met him and many K-1 & MMA fighters over the past 20 years and he would not want excuses! both great fighter who deserve our respect.

This was awesome live. Best fight of the night, broke Semmy's streak, and coincidentally gifted Overeem that GP title he'd been pining for so he can go on to wreck all the MMA heavyweights.
Aerts has serious balls, and fights better hurt and exhausted than I think I've ever seen anyone before.

@thaboss32 in hari's defence he was a shadow of himself in the tournament. he should never have fought at dynamite. was dead after the wgp. but its haris fault for fighting unfit. remy had a torn meniscus and couldnt kick knee properly. if fresh he would cruise through the fight easy. i had same surgery remy had on the knee and im suprised he could even walk.

@redblazerpea So let me get this straight - Everytime Overeem is fighting a good fighter and wins, the opponent is automatically injured or exhausted before the fight, and if Overeem looses, it justs shows he's not a kickboxer, right? Fair enough, Aerts was exhausted after this fight and it really become a bad final, but even how much you hate seeing The Reem winning, you must give him creds for winning the k1 gp and at the same time hold two belts in mma, no one has every achieved that before:)

That was pure legend, unfortunately beat something like schilt then fighting something like Overeem straight after + being 40 years old was just too much for the great Aerts, truth is i can't see any fighter in the world beating those two back too back.
Aerts HAS to be the greatest of all time, of that i've no doubt. No young fighter can tilt Schilt's todate, Aerts smacks him all over the ring in the twilight of his career, what could he do if he were still 30?? 25? etc? awesome RESPECT

It just amazes me that Aerts is in the kind of shape he's in currently. If you look at his older fights, Aerts is carrying a lot more body fat than he does now. At the age of 40 being in that kind of shape at that weight is simply baffling.

God..Peter lost 11 kgs ...went to 97 kgs from 108 kgs...how is that even possible besides all off those hard and gruelling trainings????If you lose weight,you are also supposed to lose strength and feel dizzy etc....losing weight is no fun at all.....11 kgs,....hell a lot of weight to lose...How could Peter do that??All my respect whatever he did..

The deepest respect for Peter. This man is a big example for our sport en the most incredible sportsman I had ever seen. 40 years old and still fighting at the highest level. It's awsome!!!!! Semmy had no idea what to do against Peter.
Too bad it did cost him so much energy, he could use that energy against Alistair. But still, damn Peter is a great fighter.....
