the rabbit is the ultimate hero. the rabbit is god, who isn't god at all, but only love...the rabbit wants to transform that which is only fear, insecurity, and the need for absolute power - the antichrist, who is rhuyo okawa, the leader of the organization called happy science based in japan....I am the rabbit, and so is everyone else watching this video...nothing is impossible for love
The bunny is trying to save his inner soul through the little girl "doll." Except the doll does not really exist it's a part of the bunny's imagination. The white ball represents the planets that orbit around our sun. He is stalling for time before the door opens because then it releases him into a world of the unknown! He has a tortured soul which cannot see a better world unless he aligns the planets perfectly! It's only obvious!!! :P
for some reason the video reminds me of abuse and addiction too... innocence lost then on the are we still married is like a nagging memory and death the part where the rabbit fights against the lil ball and the more he fights the more it fights back but when he stops the lil ball stops..like a reflection of himself lol but then again I might be super off on both =P
Someone compared by band Smoldering Ashes to His Name Is Alive. Hmmmm..what do you think? Check out our ultra low budget video for "Arbitrary". By the way this His Name Is Alive video is AMAZING! If only the comparison was valid. .-)
It think thhis represents hellish torment of a little girl lost in a womans body, somebody who is greatly tormented by her childhool. Tthe "White Rabbit" is ardently trying to save the best part of the girl/women soul...in essence, to save her from herself.
''WTF'' is this... o-o Sounds like an elephant climaxing and throbbing it's trunk, and just EXPLODING jizz out of it's ears 00:16 - 00:18 ...... omfg that's.. um ew?
Hard to believe I did the vocals on this almost 20 years ago! Thanks to those of you who posted wonderful comments. I have no idea what the video is about. I was just so incredibly excited when the Brothers Quay approached us and asked us to use our song for their video. Amazing.

I still remember the first time I saw this amazing video on '120 Minutes'. The host said something like, 'Our final video tonight is what 120 Minutes is all about...' - What an introduction & what an impact this made on me - a true classic. One of the few artists (HNIA & Brothers Quay) who truly saw the potential for the 'music video'...
From what I have heard, the video carries an anti-abortion theme. HNIA is a semi-Christian band believe it or not, and that was the message that they wanted the video to convey. I guess I can see that as I study the imagery. I'm not trying to make a stance on that issue, but it's only what I have heard.
His Name is Alive is not a Christian band, and the video is not about abortion...as far as I know. The video is more about ethereal themes and gossameric dreamscapes and ambience to me than a specific message or concept. But that's just my take on it.
the directors for this video and the are we still married? are one of the most disturbing intelligent artist alive, u should really check their others short films and feature films for another treat of some bizarre, poetic exaltation of imagery
Maybe it was an artery Yes it was an artery Sometimes it doesn't go All the way around May fields many questions As the wind spins the leaves My heart has saved you Saved you from a beating Sweeter than soon May we meet in that room Sweeter than soon I can't go wrong without you A chime chimes three times The devil breaks both your hands Takes your stuff and runs away
woooooooo,..i just realised that rabbit is actually a hare,,named "hartley hare" from the show"pipkins"his agent really sent him on an odd one this job...
i see a a bunny, who has a tail on the front, sitting in a beach chair, peeing, cartoonishly gnawing through a piece of string, knocking a quay brother dressed as the devil off his knee pillows, while a girl rocks back and forth on her heels while bleeding.
Whenever I've tried to describe this glorious piece to friends, the best I can come up with is "A toy rabbit trying to save an egg from the spectre of death". There's gotta be a better way to tell it. Any suggestions?
Well something like this seems unexplainable. Its more something you gotta see to understand I guess. Bros Quay makes crazy stuff,Id say the bunny is trying to save the girl but she wont move.
well for me it is like a little girl growing up, setting eggs, but she stills too young for it, she's not ready , so the the rabbit must take care of her eggs , he's trying to save them from the death, because the girl won't move and the death comes. so the rabbit take the eggs to a safe place like a cage, or better to that glass up there, finally the rabbit try to move the girl , because the death is taking the eggs. XD
@Mymadness88 - Your ideas are very accurate in the pagan symbolism the Quay Bros placed into the song, however - the lyrics refer to a love - hate relationship. - NS
Great to watch this again albeit a 'little grainy' and difficult to decipher. A fabulous film accompanying wondrous music from an album that I'm still in love with after 15 years......I'm going to get me the DVD!
I took your advice and bought the DVD,I'm speechless, simply stunning.First saw this film on MTV 120 Minutes years ago and have been hunting for it ever since
Nothing is wrong if you don't "get it". The teeny tiny you tube window negates all the wonderful detail of the animation that you are missing instead of seeing it on a large TV monitor. Rent "Ten Astonishing short Films" , a compilation CD of all the work of the Quay Brothers and watch it on a proper sized screen and you will see so much more than the blurry, clippy youtube thing.
@nightshadeah I think you mean "allude to" Sally Mann, which they don't (at least not intentionally -- what you see as comparable is fine for you to express but be hesitant in attributing intent on their part). And I think it's very weird to call the Quay Bros "goth pioneers." I would say they are stop-motion pioneers, and if their work could be categorized under one umbrella term, it would have to be "Schulzian" !

We don't have the ability to write anything better than staid, boring music... I know, disguise it with lots of noodly droning, sing in an offkey, totally mono tonal fashion and have an unrelated 'arty' video done by some foundation level students. Then idiots will think it's deep and cool.
If you like this is says something seriously bad about you.

this music is simply rediculous, does not fit the genre of the wonderful brothers quay.. his name is alive band.. how on earth can this music fit? im beside myself with this feeling that i justify internally and deeply. i nevere want to give myself credit or kudos but... my musical surfaces were much better but ..i took a chance with the copyright issues and lost . i just hope that the brothers quay saw it and made their comparisons!
I knew nothing about HNIA, bought the CD in a discount pile years ago. Always thought this song was weirdly beautiful.
Sometime in the early 90's I was half asleep watching PBS and The Street of Crocodiles was on, inexplicably. I had no bloody idea what my half-cognitive brain was soaking in, but I swear I haven't been the same since.
Anyway, I find this an amazing paring... and somehow, perfectly in sync.

I seen this band in MN at a bar/bowling alley off of Lake Street. Brothers Quay makes everything a haunt....

HNIA, or the original line-up, are Environists.
Environism is a very liberal belief which is against
killing pre-born children.

@s4lly The Brothers Quay are pioneers in the goth - movement of
the late 1980's early 90's. Scavenging most of their models from antique shops,
they allure to Sally Mann's 1800's post-modern photographic style.

Hauntingly beautiful and grotesque, and quirky all at once.
I think it all works perfectly together.
Invokes a lot of thought, just like any good piece of art should.
