Boy- when this came out. I for sure Skinny Puppy hashed out their differences and as I listento this song they did-Ohgr got to use less ( more or less effcts on his voice-as he wanted and CEvin was not for it ) but since LAST RIGHTS and the years to late THE PROCESS- SkiNNY PUPPY does what any great band does-THEY EVOLVE-- not Suiting to OHgr but suiting to each other- As w/ the process it continues-just listen to HANDOVER-the 2011 cd. From TGWOTW to Handover is new sounds as well as the old.
original band, original and good/great song! one of the finer moments of the album(wich is not my favorite overall) but a solid offering nonetheless, thankks god pUPPy iz still around deze daze!!! blessem
As someone who isn't dumb enough to label myself a "rivethead," because to name something is to kill it (but who has been listening to industrial since birth), I am inclined to tell you that your obnoxious elitism is incredibly unnecessary.
@kaptainkittykrankhei From the standpoint of psychology, none emotions, behavior are unnecessary. Since this is used by him it is necessary to him. My conclusions are in childhood he has been underestimated like his mother beat him with chair leg in his fucking snout
Not many bands with golden eras like Skinny Puppy's back in the day release an album 15-20 years later that is current, fresh-sounding, and yet stamped with their unique style. That's the true mark of brilliance.
@pixie1491 As a rivethead, I am inclined to tell you that nothing is industrial. Even Skinny Puppy is a sell-out, since they've sold more than 24 albums worldwide. Thus, they are neither industrial nor unique.
And because I know in my heart (some people would argue that I do not own one.) that I'm better than you at knowing shit about this kind of music, I'm right.
@angielova Last I checked my primary objectives listed a quickie hand job behind the mini mart and to finish off this vodka, and by 5, get back to the confessional booth I've taken over and try not to laugh at the pitiful sins..... real amateurs.
try and try and try to turn this band on to everyone i meet... 99% toss it aside without a second listen... ive come to realize its a state of mind that draws me to this band... and the state of mind that pushes most away... intelligence is the common trait among SP fans... their greatness isnt tangible... their music is an assult on my senses :P so so so good
Looks like Ill be getting this specific "SP" logo tattooed on my upper wrist area... either this one, or the "SP" depicted in the Too Dark Park album, which was my first choice before I found my GWOTR CD again hahaha!
@schism47 Danny is a good drummer, but the best would have to be Neal Peart. I think Danny would agree. The man's drum set is close to a million dollars, only because he has the ability to use so many different skins at the same time. Focus in especially at 3:29. No one in rock can hold a candle to Peart. He is the Beethoven/Mozart of rock drumming.
What a beautiful album this was. Introduced me to SP. I can see now how the sound leans a little more to ohgr then SP but still so creative and unique.
maybe someone can help me,i'm looking 4a skinny puppy track that came out before 1999. the disc the songs on, not the disc cover is black+red.i dont know the lyrics, but there arent many words to it, there's this slow, bass-driven beat + the chorus goes something like "keep dreaming" +then this dark warbled sound"eh- eh- uh- uh-ugh"-then after the chorus theres some guitars at afaster pace i think+some screaming(the lyrics at this point are shouted).maybe somebody knows what i'm talking about- .
Try imeem and look for these 2 SP CD's "Mind: The perpetual intercourse" and "Cleanse fold and manipulate". More than likely it is from one of those. (Both are from the 80's)
no i heard "tin omen," its not the one that i mean. the track that i mean has no more than 2 or 3 short lines sung, actually like short phrases. it sounds very dark and warbled and morbid. also on the same disc is electronic music that sounds like trumpets in a medieval kingdom, you know like trumpets before a king or prince or someone important is about to speak. the medieval trumpets sounding track doesnt have any words at all, the trumpetlike sounds are pl,ayed in a loop with a beat.
I believe the song you are thinking of is off Last Rights. It is song number 6 called Scrapyard. I know exactly what you are talking about. I was chilling with headphones on coming down when I heard that the first time. Love it.
no, i checked it, thats not the one that i meant. so frustrating, i used to have that cd without the cd cover but lost it. thanks for trying to help. the song i mean isnt electronic-driven, its bass and guitar driven. i dont know the lyrics, but a 2-word phrase is uttered,"keep dreaming" something like that, with warbled sounds of digust after it. later theres some screaming with harsh metal-style guitar, also no longer than a 2-word phrase. it sounded most Mysterious, like halloween music.
I love it too, but I'd have to put "The Process" up there as well... and heaps of their older stuff - anything off 'Rabies' (Love 'Rivers' and "Tin Omen") and also the timeless classics "Assimilate" (Bites and Remission) and "The Killing Game" (Last Rites).
Just so you know, The Process was their album from 1996. It was made in 1995 and then they re-released in 1999. So technically, this album was made 8 years after their departure.
Either way, this is an excellent album and a great song!
I just cant bring myself to like Skinny Puppy, however I enjoy this song. I'm a huge Tool fan and love Reznor's work (who was obviously inspired by Ogre) and Carey's drumming combined with Wayne Static in the chorus help elevate this song, but I've always hated Ogre's singing for some reason.
@kelseelegarde According to an interview here on Youtube of Wayne & his wife he is starting a solo band called Hate Hammer which will focus on a more industrial sound vs Static X sound. I'll def buy it when it comes out.
