@XelestialDragon I always used them both. Albert is one of the most helpful both due to high physical attack and his Rose Storm spell. Meru is the best overall female. The other way is to train your eye to perceive the boxes and press right when the boxes become one. The latter is the best way to learn the additionals and overtime after doing them, they become second nature. Although, usually the first 2-3 hits are typically the same or similar for most characters (especially meru)
I want to play this now... As a hardcore gamer, I love the game for it's absolute badassery. A remastered version would make it worth purchasing a ps3/xbox.
@vault3000master Hey now, in all fairness, if you take out additions, this game is incredibly simple. Final Fantasy is ALOT more strategic than this game, and in my opinion, many of them are more fun. That being said, the Additions system is what makes this game unique, memorable, and most of all, fun. I really enjoy the satsifying feel of seeming like im actually contributing to the awesome move my character on screen is performing.
@biggians Not exactly, the additions are where the power comes from to attack an opponent. It doesn't make any sense to give all your power into one slash. At least LOD incorporated attack damage to be balanced through each attack rather than one hit. That's just an cheap way to add damage, LOD requires some skill to be able to pull off good damage, plus you have to complete an addition entirely in order to increase the damage. The same applies to magic, requires fast fingers.
@biggians I personally like FF games, I only have 2, but I like them. It's very irritating though that your main attack is the same variation throughout the whole game.
LOD has some strategy, but as I said before, this game is all about skill. That's what makes me keep coming back to an Rpg.
If you play a strategy type game once, you'll remember the same tactic from when you beat the enemy before, that's the downfall for those kind of games that rely heavily on strategy alone.

I like Dart's Crush Dance and Burning Rush. I always got those one's down. As for Albert...I always failed. I couldn't even do Spinning Cane! DDDX I didn't play Meru or Kongol all that much, so...

I loved this combat system. Only thing i thought was kinda broken was defending giving you 10% of your hp back, but then again i did farm 3 legend casques and 3 of the legendary armor (can't remember the name, been too long ) so i did kinda trivialize everything...
And now I'm going to dig out my old discs (which still work :D )and play it again
My favorite of Dart's personally has to be Volcano. It's fun to do in real life too. Sure the later ones are more powerful, but I still like Volcano most. I literally can do it with my eyes closed.
For Haschel it's Ferry of Styx. Sounds more like Flurry, but whatever.
I also love performing Lavitz's (Not Albert's) Spinning Cane move. It's fun.

I loved this game, but if there was a different battle system I would have played it more than once. I couldn't be at peace until every additon was maxed out so I spent hours and hours in dungeons doing each one 80 or so times (plus the times when I messed it up). When I felt like a replay I couldn't get psyched up enough to do all of that again. Thankfully with youtube I can just watch my favorite parts.
@PSGamerX i finished my first game with tht same argument. thn i went to gamefaqs.com and realized i could do 3-6x times dmg each turn with the master additions and completed my 2nd game having MUCH MORE FUN.
@PSGamerX strength isn't the only thing to look at, there's also sp, and the fact that if you master all of them, you get the fucking best one. so good job for never LOOKING.
I have all the additions except for Meru's, Haschel's, and Rose's because I only used Dart, Albert/Lavitz, and Kongol the entire time xD owned every monster thanks to them
Blazing f*cking Dynamo! still remember when I use to practice that move and madness hero. Sitll my favorite is Albert which has tough additions and Meru's Perky Step such a klutz but still cute.

My favorite of Dart's personally has to be Volcano. It's fun to do in real life too. Sure the later ones are more powerful, but I still like Volcano most. I literally can do it with my eyes closed.
For Haschel it's Ferry of Styx. Sounds more like Flurry, but whatever.
I also love performing Lavitz's (Not Albert's) Spinning Cane move. It's fun.

I always thought Meru's was a butt to master, simply because of Perky Step >.>
I only got about half-way to mastering it by the time I got to Melbu Frahma... and I always used her. D: She replaced Shana/Miranda...

I loved this game, but if there was a different battle system I would have played it more than once. I couldn't be at peace until every additon was maxed out so I spent hours and hours in dungeons doing each one 80 or so times (plus the times when I messed it up). When I felt like a replay I couldn't get psyched up enough to do all of that again. Thankfully with youtube I can just watch my favorite parts.

I use the ePSXe emulator, but all my additions are slower. I don't lag, it's not the computer. Could it be the video configuration?
I mean, I might just keep it like that anyway, it's easier xD

@PSGamerX i finished my first game with tht same argument. thn i went to gamefaqs.com and realized i could do 3-6x times dmg each turn with the master additions and completed my 2nd game having MUCH MORE FUN.

The addition system, much like the dragoon system, isn't truly necessary to beat the game. But it's as fun as doing a junctionless run of FF8.

I have all the additions except for Meru's, Haschel's, and Rose's because I only used Dart, Albert/Lavitz, and Kongol the entire time xD owned every monster thanks to them

Blazing f*cking Dynamo! still remember when I use to practice that move and madness hero. Sitll my favorite is Albert which has tough additions and Meru's Perky Step such a klutz but still cute.

to skip dragoon transfromations you have to pause the game then go down to settings then change it from there
