I think Eta Carinae is already dead, just the light is still there.
We see the star as it was 8000 years ago, so it could be possible that it's not there anymore.

It is definitely possible. However, nevertheless, I believe that its very unlikely. 8000 years is an extremely short fraction of a star's lifespan, so the chances that the star died in the last 8000 years is very low.
