  • Love the shoulder blade flexing at 0.40,amazing.

  • I'm intrigued by this video of Edward Aston. My father's cousin, Dorothy Ross, was a dancer in the 1920s/30s and her dance partner was Ted Aston. My father said he was Mr Universe! They danced an acrobatic Apache style dance in which Ted threw Dorothy around quite a bit, also a lot of balancing. The couple's stage name was Xenia & Aston. They were professional partners and not married. I saw somehwere else that this Edward Aston danced with his wife under the stage name Aston & Zena. Odd!

  • Im inspired by this video, I run a blog where I train and advocate training like Aston and other old time strongmen. Check it out and I would like to do an interview with you about aston strength training

  • What was he doing to that woman? I thought he was trying to lift her, was he crushing her?

  • Great :)

  • Yes in those days the show business side was a big part of it - its how he made a living - Edward had a few special tricks - two woman sitting in baskets linked to 2inch bar which he would lift above his head - with one arm . He could tear a pack of cards in half etc etc

He had a great grip - he worked hard on it - his forearm was almost as big as his biceps .

  • Immortal.

  • man, they don`t make em like they used to. the old timers were the best.

  • Yeah and no steroids in those days

  • He died in 1970 I think -I 'll check , I know he was 93 when he died . No other videos that I have found but they must be out there , he got around a lot and was filmed doing stunts on several occasions.

  • Thanks. According to another source he was born in 1884 and would have died in 1977 if he was indeed 93 at the time. All the same, that is certainly longevity-something welcoming to hear. He was considered by many to be a straight up person and a total gentleman.

  • Thanks Zenaissance. He was a gentleman for sure and a very big personality. I think he was a show man at heart , came from a very poor north england background , taught himself and was a really good writer, I have a collection of his writings

  • When did Edward Aston die? Are there any more such videos of him as this? Thanks for the post!

  • Wow, great video, I am a huge Aston, Monte Saldo, and Maxick fan. Thanks for posting! Really cool that his son/grandson are here as well, thank you both!

  • Thats awesome! Yes please more vids if you have them!

  • Yeah he was a big personality as well as a big man. The film was some kinda joke promo thing, he could have picked her up but... if fact in his stage show he wold pick up two women sitting in seats hanging from a bar , with one hand!

  • that's awesome. I just started getting into the whole strongman thing, and I'm very inspired by Edward Aston. It looked like he wanted to pick her up, but she seemed very nervous.

  • It looks like the woman is doing something so she can't be lifted-I'm sure this is an old stage show feat. The caption at the start says something to this effect. Great to see some real footage of two English strength legends.

  • Yes Edward was very much a showman - thats how he earnt a living with his strongman act - two of his famous feats were- getting two women in full victorian dress in two backets attached to a 2inch iron bar which he would raise above his head with one arm - he would also tear a full pack of cards in half - he and my grandmother had a dance routine with lots of feats of strength included in it

  • yay! its my great grandad!
