I love Matt, but Steve was a better fit for that particular band, pure energy on stage. Sorum, I think, is a great fit for Cult and VR, and he's done good solo work. Unfortunately, Adler's drug problem meant that he couldn't perform like had early on, and the band had no choice but to replace him on short notice.
Technicaly Matt is a better drummer than Steven Adler. But... Matt fits better by the Cult where he had more space to use his creativity and technique... At the album Sonic Temple he's brilliant. But with G&R...? He was not the right drummer... Steven adler was... And nobody could ever replace him... Because he hits every accent at the right moment... Superdrummer or not... That's a quality as well... Technique is a support, not a nessecary skill... Steven Adler proved that...
Sorum's the king of cymbals, he got an endorsement from Yamaha when they released the drum machine RY33 and the beats he programmed on that were cymbal heavy - the man has an intricate touch and a heavy hit when it comes to cymbals something that's not always prominent in drummers nowadays but he's the man....
this isn't anything considered a solo. It's a simple double bass with a few cymbal and snare hits, with some tom rolls thrown in there. It just sounds so fast, and that he's hitting so many drums because the bass drum is fucking turned up louder than any other drum or cymbal and he can only do the same consistent bass beat.
He's an OK player with no soloing abilities. His solos are entertaining for non-drummers I guess. They are very boring for any decent drummer to watch. That gong attack was just so intense This could've been in Spinal Tap.
agreed... im bassist in a band, but still can tell good drum solo from bad. neil peart is a zillion times better..... go to matt sorum drum solo feat. duff mckagan... it rly sux ;(
Dang Matt! I never knew how good you were and have become from the kid back in High School..... Nice dude. I'm soooo proud.
