I find it so funny that I started rooting for Real back in 1996, when I was only 6. I saw Raul's first game, and I liked him since that same game vs. Zaragoza, he played for so little, yet so well. He is a true legend of the modern Real Madrid. Real would not have done as well without him. He is like the Gestafano of today. A legend. @amigofication I don't know why teams trade players like him. He embodies the whole Franchise. He's a product of their cadet academy team and had an exceptional career with the team, winning team many trophies, since he joined. Players like him should be allowed to retire on their own term.

@petion2010 because in some teams these days , Money beats the Symbol....and that is very sad! so respect for Manchester United, AC Milan, Barcelona and other teams Real Madrid is not like! Ryan Giggs another true legend is 37 now! but they dont have a couch like mourinho on the bench! they have a SIR Alex Ferguson there! And the list of examples can carry on! In teams where "change" isn't everything, the passion for football lives on!

@amigofication You're right, but that's a problem. Managements asked players to be totally loyal to the Franchises and fans. Teams are asking players to give everything they have every game; they put pressure on them to win; they make huge amount of money by selling tickets, selling jerseys and other items. These dynasties are built on those players sweat and tears. And as soon as the guys start to get old or the stats are a little bit lower, you just wanna trade them. What kind of sh$t is that?

¿Lo merece? ¿Por que? ¿Por su "fabuloso" rendimiento? Lo que faltaba, que lo tengamos que llevar de "pago por sus servicios" a la seleccion tambien. Sin duda, aqui se menosprecia mucho a los buenos jugadores. Mucha gente aun duda de Higuain y de Fernando Torres.

also he does have alot of games but he has an advrege of scoring in the champions league of 0.52 a better advrege than, henry, shevshenko, morientes, del pierle, trezaguet, 3 of these r penalty kick takers and morientes was rauls partner and still couldnt touch him. so hes champions league stats r abbit more than impresive there quite simply apart from van nistorey the best.

he was a good goal getter but alot of them were easy and simple chances u just dont miss mostly one v one. i was only really impressed by by his chipping and flair. i dont think he is in anyway a 'legend' like people claim. he may scored a lot of goals at real madrid but hes been there 16 years...

nah actually i respect many strikers of the game. i think eto and van nistelrooy were fantastic, and inzaghi is a great scorer and and the brazilian ronaldo goes down as the best ever striker in his peak but i dont understand the big deal about raul. no offence i dont think hes a bad player, i think hes good, but not a legend thats all

317 goals in 16 years is not 'legendary' its good tho. his champions league score is impressive but it also cuz real madrid go to champions league every year. his spanish national team record is quite impressive i cant say anything about that. but seriously i think diego forlan is a better striker than him. hes never played along side legendary playmakers like zidane and yet has won the pichichi (spanish top scorer) twice as well as the europian ball with two different teams.

I find it so funny that I started rooting for Real back in 1996, when I was only 6. I saw Raul's first game, and I liked him since that same game vs. Zaragoza, he played for so little, yet so well. He is a true legend of the modern Real Madrid. Real would not have done as well without him. He is like the Gestafano of today. A legend. I can only pray that in my life time, a player as loyal to Real Madrid as Raul would appear again. God bless Raul, and Real.

Raul isn't about the same things that the "fenomenos" are about, he's not Ronaldinho or Messi - typical players that disappear a few seasons down the road. He is a legend. He's in books. Records..titles...he doesn't compare. For him it isn't a contest of who can chip the goalie but who can lift the cup. Period.

there are skills and physical attributes they have that Raul never had and can't aspire to at this point in his career but at the same time he has the sort of qualities that never fade; placement, finishing, intellegence and leadership. Nistelrooy will never return to the level he was at, totti and del piero are talented no doubt, but they've never had to carry their teams in the way raul has
