Look, this *is* Clapton. He did this recording as a payback to Mason Williams who stole all of his riffs and then paid a studio engineer to sneak in a replacement of Clapton's lead guitar with his own on the original Wheels of Fire track of Crossroads.

I don't want to be a "know it all" but Clapton has never covered this tune. Lots of artists have but not Clapton. Go to Mason William's Classical Gas website and FAQ's He explains why some think Clapton recorded a version. Then came file sharing. Napster, Kazaa, Kids who shared it wrote in the artist as Clapton, and so millons of kids downloaded it with Clapton written in as the arist. Williams has released it 38 times, with and without orchestras. Clapton never has.

Such an amazing instrumental, and very well played man! Btw, Mason Williams wrote it, TE made his own unique cover and Clapton was never known to actually have recorded it. There are live performances of Mason Williams doing this, unfortunately they are the 1968 3 grammy winning one with the orchestra, not the solo instrumental fron 1971- Handmade album. Eric Clapton never did this. The version you are thinking of is from Mason's album "Handmade" back in 1971. Clapton to date has NEVER recorded Gas. My husband is a protege of Mason's. Check out his stuff. Search for Sinai 48 on youtube, and also itunes, amazon and wherever else you can search! My husband also does an AMAZING version of Gas.

Keep up on the playing, with a little more practice, I think you'll have a nice rendition. However, PLEASE change the title of this video! Clapton has nothing to do with this song--never recorded it, performed it, covered it or produced it and did not write it. Crediting him is a disservice to the author and whomever performs the tune. It also makes you look foolish and distract from your playing, which is well on its way. Check out Glen Campbell, Mason Willams, or Tommy Emmanuel for ideas.

You aren't going to find this song by Eric Clapton anywhere on the net except for incorrectly labeled mp3's on file sharing networks. Mason Williams did an acoustic re-make (the version without the strings) on his 1970 album, I think that is the version that is mislabeled as Eri Clapton. You aren't going to find this song on any Clapton record or bootleg... classical gas dot com or check amazon dot com or wikipedia dot com and type in classical gas
