I have exactly the same problem. The USB unit registers as a Human Interface Device (most of the time) or Nike+ hardware (if my Logitech mouse is unplugged) but nothing shows in menus and nothing launches. Looks like the kit is going to get returned as useless.
I have fixed the problem. The device needs to download Human Interface Device (HID) drivers the first time you plug it in so that it can launch the software you have installed for it. You may need to reset the USB unit before plugging it in (hold down both buttons together for 10 secs). After the drivers install, the software should launch and you should then be up and running.
Thank you for demonstrating your incompetence. Read the manual. You are required to plug the SportBand into your USB port for the utility to run after it is installed. Please, READ!

yeah you need to plug the band in to your USB then it will start up.

You have to plug in your sport band before it'll pop up:)
