Saw this movie lastnite & I was enthralled from beginning to end. I did, however, espeicially love the part where he got angry & went to take it out on the piano. Why do we pianists abuse the thing we love the most? :) Made me smile. The women are so beautiful & elegant & the cinematography IS amazing. Mads reminded me of Christopher Walken the whole way through. Gorgeous man with a body, biceps & passion to make any women weak. (He stole my cheekbones. :)
the Russians really dominated the 20th century with Shostakovich, Prokofiev, and Stravinsky...Looks like Moussorgsky and the mighty 5 could have been proud that mother Russia would produce another mighty 3 in the next century
...mmm franse kus en Russische muziek.... Fashion...een wereld van schoonheid, passie en liefde.....imitatie en spelen van eeuwen.....reflectie van de menselijke ziel....
Seven years later, Coco and hij meet again....7 dus!
and he begins to compose in a new, more liberated style...ik voel al dat!
This movie looks like a piece of shit. No, I refuse to put it eloquently. This doesn't even deserve it. Gives a bad name to the greatest musical mind to ever exist.
@sstuddert Actually, go fuck yourself. I hate closed minds like yours who thinks that any music that you don't like or that doesn't conform to your sentimental ideals is invalid (i.e Schoenberg and John Cage). It's embarrassing that I'm even responding to someone like you. This isn't up for debate. Don't waste your breath, I won't be responding for a second time.
it's so funny how listening to Rite of SPring today, it's actualy quite tonal sounding to me...it actually has very discernible melodies ( I know no music theory) but they tonal
Saw the film last night about Coco and Stravinsky, a bit one dimentional and way way too much fous on an almost insignificant affair as to completely distort the audiences understanding of Stravinsky's real direction of attention but always fun to see how the producer thinks a composer thinks even if to stimulate my sense of humor.
It's a part of Stravinsky's beautiful The Rite of Spring (or Le sacre du printemps) - the music for the same production you see as a ballet where the audience is rioting at the beginning of the clip.
For Disney's imaginative take, see here:
watch?v=-gZbMOq_Ge8
For a recreation of what that original ballet was like, see here:
I haven't seen the film, but from the clips it looks hilarious. Typically, film makers these seem incapable of making an informative biopic about famous people without tacky sex scenes like the absurd one with Coco and Igor going at it with Le Sacre as the musical backdrop. Gack! Incidentally, the riot at the premiere of Le Sacre was as much, if not more, about Nijinsky's choreography as it was about Stravinsky's music. These people needed a proper music historian on hand at al times.
To be honest, I was thrilled to see him in such a role. Too bad they did not released the DVD yet. I would not be surprised if he learned French, too.
Anyway, he is a great actor, I am glad that directors (outside Denmark) began noticing him more often than before.
Ahhh THANK YOU! I was considering going through the entire Stravinsky canon hoping to find it, but this is much easier. Although, it wouldn't hurt to familiarize myself with more works.
Hello, I'm also looking for an english version of this film, please if anyone has the link just paste it here.... i really want to see this film much more than any other pop-movies..... like cinematograph and serious movies, with true-to-life plots and about such famous people, especially about musicians..... , cause I'm musician too...please, waiting for anyone's reply. thank you in advance:)))))))))
i question why they would have a film about this. i know stravinsky's music like i know the back of my hand and it seems like this wont have very much of his music in it. also the guy doesnt even resemble igor stravinsky. i look more like stravinsky than he does.
i saw this film at cannes, and it actually features stravinsky's music quite prominently.
and since you seem to be a fan of his music, your interest in this film may be to see the circumstances under which he composed many of his works; under the patronage of coco chanel.
It is obviously a fantasy confected by writer Greenhalgh and Director Kounen. Of course a prettier actor than I.S. himself was chosen. Both title-named subjects are interesting in themselves and the connection between them is a small sport of history. If the movie makes too much non-diegetic use of Le Sacre to accompany his pounding of her on her bed, then that will not be so good. There is a bit of his 4-hand piano music that he made for his kids. (continuing)
I would like to have the movie, but my French is poor and I would want sub-text. The movie I really want is "Riot at the Rite",made by BBC, but there doesn't seem to be any commercial release, only copies made by viewers at the time of broadcast (and Google). (end)

Why Mads Mikkelsen? Sure, he's a great actor and all that, but he looks NOTHING like Stravinsky.

@LightStijn well stravinsky was pretty unattractive, they wanted to make the movie seductive in a way.
Anna Mouglalis is way prettier than Coco Chanel too
