I hear you. I'm white and I had a pro research my family tree. I'm French, British and German and thankfully by joining the Air Force I got to go to all those places and I recommend for every white American to find out all they can about where they came from in Europe. It just gives you greater depth as a person. America likes to "dumb" down everything for people here (both black and white) and they have no idea of the value of culture and force many to throw their's away. It just annoys me.

I think many people need to understand that not all white US citizens share the history of the slave owners and Jim Crow days. My heritage was Irish and my family came from Ireland during the potato famine (during the civil war) and were basically forced to serve for the Union Army for citizenship. NOTHING to do with slavery or "bad history" and we are definitely different and all white.

I agree with biker becuase at some point irish were slaves and im saying for hundreds and hundreds of years. Most of the first irish men a women were slaves that came over here. @MikeAnglichanen Don't try to take the blame off of white people. I am in a relationship with a white man but I know all white people are not good people (especially not from the past). Of course, all minorities are not innocent people that are just being held down by oppression either. Yes, some white people have done terrible things, but others sacrificed themselves to free people of another race. White boys did die fighting to free the slaves during the Civil War. The only explicit mention I've ever heard of this was Denzel Washington saying this in REMEMBER THE TITANS. Slavery still exists in the world, and it should be ended everywhere. People talk about it like it only happened here. It would be boring if there were only one race. Life is like a pack of Skittles.

While I respect what you are saying lady..I think the problem at hand really is the segregation of it all..why "black" this..or "white" that..or "latin" those..it should be ALL INCLUSIVE but America really is more concerned about less important issues. What really seperates us is what we visually see..and not what we internally know. Us Gen Xers and beyond have to continue to break this mold..BET hasn't done more to help the "Black" culture than help to make it a stereotype..lets be honest.

Black History was "purposely" not taught in our schools until the 1970s. There was the stereotypical mentioning of George Washington Carver. Texts books were white history, with lots of inaccuracies concerning native americans, and the mexican people.

I think the point they trying to make is that labeling yourself as "black anything" is kind of setting yourself apart. To be an equal, people try to "fit in", whether in an office or a religion, etc. - any kind of group. As Denzel Washington said when asked if he aspired to be one of America's greatest black actors, "Why not just one of America's greatest actors?" .The reporter said, "Well that would be nice, but..." He told him, "Why don't you start, Why don't you be the first to write that?"

I don't really expect everyone to hold the same religious views as me...so I wouldn't expect anyone to conform just to make everyone else happy. I agree with Denzel Washington but history is a little different. Until they teach black history (as well as other races/ethnicities) history every month, it is needed.

I was at work one day and a BM coworker asked a young BM if he knew who Frederick Douglass was. The young guy said no and he looked at me and asked who he was, I told him he was a slave who had learned to read and write from the master's children and became an author. All he said was, "That is so sad!"

These white nationalists should be careful what they ask for. For whites to demand a white history month is foolish and getting one would be a Pyrrhic victory. It would only give us an excuse to ignore our history for 11 months. Not a good deal. Some black folks also know it's more of a burden than a blessing. Morgan Freeman understood this when he said "why would you relegate my history to a single month?"

Do they have a Hispanic or Latino history month too? They should. People should be careful what they ask for. They are asking for a race war or riots of some sort if they try to do something like that. If that happens, I'm moving out of the country lol

It makes no sense to set a special month aside for the majority group who already have history on their side.
