Of course this movie is slow. It´s about slow people. Of course there are only a few character developments. An old mans charakter doesn´t develop much, still it is a big step for him. This is a poetic movie, not a movie made for entertainment purposes.

Sorry, but this movie is terrible! If you want to see a great Richard Farnsworth movie, get The Gray Fox, 1000 times better than this. This movie is slow with no character development.
The film may be slow but that is only because it goes to real lengths to reflect 'real life'. The main character does develop, he swallows his pride and battles his own ghosts to embrace his brother before the end. Its wonderful because nothing hugely dramatic happens, by doing that it is making a point in itself.
Do you know that John Piper recommended this movie? Christian walk is like this; very slow, lots of obstacles and humiliations by own weakness, but fixed with one hope of destination -- to see the one whom you love more than anything else. To see Him face to face.
Starting at 3:03 is one of the most beautiful scenes in movie history. I wish the subtitles weren't listed, but it's still great. Thanks for posting it!

Richard Farnsworth - a brilliant actor. I also thought he excelled himself as Matthew in Anne of Green Gables. He WAS Matthew....
