Unless your Romanian you have no right telling people that Deva trained gymnasts have no grace or have horrible dance skills, they sacrifice that for execution so they can win for their country which has to compete against the three most spoiled countries in the world, America, Russia, and China
@KaruiNinja This is true, people forget that those 3 countries are the 3 'biggest' countries on the planet when considering population, size, money etc.... Romania is a poor small country from eastern europe and has consistently held its own against those giant. Thats why they are always the underdogs and why I cant help but love them the most
No, I agree it was a fair score for Marinescu here, but when I look at Dawes' score on beam for those horrid legs and knees...it makes me cringe... Its hard to say the scores werent over inflated for her... but I agree this score is fair
Marinescu was the only Romanian I could bare to watch on beam, bars, and floor exercise-especially in the compulsory rounds. She was the only one on her team who could dance, and showed grace and fluidity of movement.
@audie83 if you cant appreciate Amanar's all time great tumbling on floor with not only amazing difficulty and power, but sensational form and execution quality, even with the shitty dance in between, then I feel sorry for your narrow minded views on gymnastics. By the way Marinescu's bars was nothing special, Amanar actually had the best form and amplitude on bars of all the Romanians in 96 not Marinescu, though none of them were great.
She had grace, and could dance-unique on the Romanian team because she was Bucharest-trained-unlike the likes of Amanar, Gogean, and Milosovic who were trained in Deva by Belu's safe, code-whoring gymnastics training. The best thing about the Deva gymnasts was their tumbling on floor and vaulting. Their choreo was general horrid, and none of them had grace or could dance.
actually Milo and Gogean could dance but their expression were bad, no joy, they did not feel the music, specially Gogean, also Milo's choreo was very bad at the 96 olympics.
But Amanar actually was not a natural dancer but in the end she was improving
A 9.6 was fair - the landing on the dismount warranted at least a .2 deduction. The judges were really no less 'fair' to the Romanians. At this event, and certainly not historically.
This routine was severely underscored at 9.600 if you consider the captivating form and style. Grant it her dismount was not solid, the deduction was harsh. Also, consider the inflated scoring for the American team...scores in the 9.7s & 9.8s on BB for routines that were not as exquisitely performed and displayed acrobatic ability but did not integrate sufficient artistry.

the russians yell STOI when their gymnasts dismount. or do a difficult arial. it means "stay" or "stick it"
i believe the romanians yell the same word as it means the same thing in romanian.

Thank you! It sounds so much like Oksana Omelianchik's music!

Elena Sazonenkova used it in 1989 also.

Indeed, I like her floor routine that year. Her 1991 routine was gorgous as well.

Yeah, her double stag leaps are beautiful.

I have to admit it

I am sure both Milo and Gogean could dance-but I never saw it.

@audie83 Code-whoring, hee! Awesome neologism.

@audie83 You are also wrong on Gogean. She was technically a very good dancer on beam and floor, she just wasnt very expessive.
