Just got done watching this and I probably haven't watched any of TNA's product in over a year, and I was disappointed. Angle vs. Nigel just felt like they were going through the motions. They started out at 100 mph and it didn't work. angle hit his "angle slam" like 3 minutes into the match. The main event felt like a watered down version of the glorious match 4 years ago. How can you give this show a 9 when the whole under card sucked?
this was (IMO) the best ppv TNA has had in a while and i thought that Angle/Wolfe and Styles/Joe/Daniels were the best matches but i preferred the Angle match as he was a face but yeah this was a good pay per view

Your life must suck really bad, talking shit on youtube only makes more of a retard than you already are. Go ahead and reply to this because it doesn't matter what you say.
I don't feel the TP 3-Way ME had a "flawed set up", NYG. The build-up to the match and overall storyline going into it was carried out pretty well overall.
The set up was flawed because both challengers were on losing streaks going into the match. How do losers earn title shots?
I'm not attacking Joe & Daniels' ability, I'm just saying that title shots should be hard to get, and they should be earned & obtained through victories. I mean nobody gets rewarded in the NFL Playoffs or March Madness for working hard despite losing.
Yeah wrestling is fake, but within the context of the fictional universe that is being created, this is a sport between athletes, and wins & losses should matter & there should be consequences to losing, much like in a real sport.
Now coming out of BFG, I would think the ones that would be next in line for a title shot would be Abyss & especially Kurt Angle. They got big wins at BFG, & Angle had a time limit draw with AJ in a non title match.
I wouldnt go as far to say that it was the best TNA PPV of the year. I still give that to BFG. Even if the matches are great, its gotten to a point that watching PPVs from Orlando make me feel like Im paying for Impact. BFG just had a better atmosphere & energy to it overall, and it also had the benefit of having alot of payoffs to long build ups.
But all of that said, the double main event to TP was pretty sweet.
I think they should have made us wait for Desmond/Angle. Imagine how awesome it would have been if we did wait for it? But that was a hell of a match. Loved it.
The 3 way didn't quite match the Unbreakable match, but I wasn't expecting it to. It actually came alot closer than I thought it would. Awesome display there, and a great match, despite my issues with the flawed set up for it.
I don't care for ratings and stars and such, but I think that the show only had its' two main events to fall back on. Outside of the amazing main events, it was nothing special featuring 2 women matches, 6 man borefest with a usual swerve and a worse Steiner/Lashley brawl.
I was at Turning Point in person last night and the show was just unreal. And yes :ashley and Steiner was the worst match of the night, when they went to the back we were all just standing there like,"uh ok this sucks, next match. But other than that the crowd was electric and I dont know how it came off on tv but the crowd was really loud and insane.I hope TNA goes up from here and dont look back because I'm over wwe and I just want some good macthes again like last night
The last two matches should be an indication of TNA's direction to Dixie Carter......new talent and some of your present talent are the key to the future. It's not Hogan or any other WWE retreads. Look to the indy's or oversees for new talent. And please improve the Knockouts Division. And PLEASE control the Hulksters ego. Copying Vince is not going to beat Vince.
yeahh but i think either daniels may reveal himself as the attacker. it jus seems that way, considerin how pissed he looked las night (good reaction by daniels btw).
or if tomko returns as planned, maybe tna could tease daniels bein the attacker and play the "bitter anger/jealousy" card into the storyline.
daniels actually being reveal as the attacker, i'll admit is unlikely, but him turnin heel ain't. neither is the whole "daniels bein bitter and pissed at aj" thing. i don't know how tna wants to do it, but i'm just saying they COULD tie daniels in to the attack on aj.
I love how you told people on this vid to order the replay, buy the DVD, because this was truly a great show, I just wish people would stop streaming Fucking TNA PPV's, and put their money where their mouth is.
I liked the KO's tag match because it showed that ODB could beat all three of the Beaut's at the same time. Steiner/Lashley lived up to it's potential, sadly. Missed Tara/Kong and most of the main event. Angle/Nigel was one of the better matches I've seen Angle have since the Benoit days. I went in knowing Angle would win, but after about 10 minutes I wasn't too sure! Angle could have sold the arm a little more when going for anklelocks, but that's the ONLY bitch I have about it. Nigel is GOLD!
The only matches that did not do anything for me were the Six Knockouts Tag Match (mainly because Lacey Von Erich is almost as bad if not worse than Maria in the ring) and Steiner vs. Lashley.
Everytime that TNA puts on a bad PPV, everybody is blaming Russo and when TNA puts on an amazing PPV from top to bottom, nobody knows that Russo even exists
Awesome PPV, thought it really delivered. Nigel/Angle was an amazing wrestling match. Daniels/Joe/AJ was amazing, not better than the first one, wasn't expecting it to be but it was different and special in its own way.

I like to see good matches however i also like to see the likes of Hogan, Sting, Nash, Steiner, Foley, Lashley etc. I like the big time stars & larger the life characters.
If TNA can get the right mix of good wrestling mixed with big time stars engaing in intriguing feuds then TNA will go from strenght to strength.
I think the majority of the IWC forgets that their is people want to see Hogan, Sting & Nash etc.....like me.
I'll definitely be getting the DVD. I like it when TNA does great PPVs like this, but at the same time it does drain you when they can't keep it up. I've been saying this for some time. TNA needs to be consistent with their PPVs so they can actually attract more people to buy the product. They should put up more good to great PPVs so people can say, "Hey, maybe TNA really is the alternative from WWE."
Exactly how? I refuse to put any more energy and hope into this company - one good show isn't enough to make up for YEARS of mistakes that only infuriate, alienate and insult my intelligence.
I did, however, tell everyone who still wants to follow this company to BUY this pay-per-view. I did that before the pay-per-view, and I'm doing it afterwards.
and im happy when tna does good stuff, but honestyl i cannot have faith that they will keep it up, will we have great matches every blue moon yea, but that b/c the talent is so great but that bookin team i cannot have trust in
those last two matches were great, but to me the rest of the ppv was just eh, i dunno if i was just excited for the 3way and nigle v angle but the undercard to me was boring
That proves that if the best matches on the card were last then the PPV will do great, If only Wrestlemania 25 was like that then it would've been much better.
Man please. Don't try to blame Sting for anything. Look at the opponents he was facing, look at his booking, and look at the little bit of time his matches were given. Sting is not a shit wrestler at all. If they give his matches the time, he could have great matches but for some reason they didn't do that. They're booking AJ Styles world title matches very good.
No i agree, it felt refreshing to not see Sting (God bless him) get lost or have his tongue dragging during the main event. Sting is a legend, but he needs to respectfully bow out
Also agreed. To me, when Sting came back in 06 was when the company slowly started going downhill before it fell off a fucking cliff in 07. Just because TNA then started doing more of the giving spots to new guys established elsewhere and ignoring their homegrown stars.
If Sting wants to have little upper midcard feuds to put over the young guys, cool, fine. Just keep him away from the title picture for god sakes. And if you can't do that, keep him off my TV and tell him to retire.
Oh man, I would suggest buying Survivor Series because Vince isn't going to be happy about this. WWE can't suffer anything lower than a 7 on one of their big four PPVs and I expect Survivor Series to deliver and for everyone to try their hardest after TNA just dominated with Turning Point.
With what on their card is WWE going to deliver a good show for Survivor Series?
"Super" Cena vs. the members of DX?
Undertaker vs. "chicken-shit" Punk?
A divas match? where?
Orton vs. Kofi is developing into a pretty entertaining program, but instead of delivering Kofi vs. Orton, in a match that could possibly make Kingston's career, win or lose, WWE ties it down in an elimination tag match.
Rhodes/DiBiase vs. Cryme Tyme, for the unified tag straps could've been a hell of a program.
But instead they are only going to be "background noise" to the Orton/Kofi feud, with Show/Jericho holding the tag belts as a makeshift team.
Now DX jumps into the main event scene, challenging not for the tag belts, but instead the WWE title, since that's what duos are supposed to be targeting.
And with all of that, Christian, the man that's been almost single-handedly carrying the star power on ECW is without a decently fresh match for the show.
Sacrificing great matchups for tradition. What a terrible trade off, i'd hate to be the guy that had to make that decision. I don't believe in the BIG4 anymore. WrestleMania and the Royal Rumble are guaranteed to deliver and everything else is in the same boat of hit or miss. I purchase based on the price ($45, steep much?) and the quality of the card. Not on name value alone. Surely, most people will buy Survivor Series just of name value, but it doesn't look to be great imo
Now I can see buying the Royal Rumble; the Rumble match with it's spectacle and all, but 'Mania?
What was on that card, besides the tradition of the show, that warranted plopping down almost $60 to see? Maybe Taker/HBK, but outside of that not very much, IMO
Given the feud between Triple H and Orton (say what you will about the horrid back-and-forth nature that resembled every bad moment of the Attitude era that I've ever personally hated), I'd say that was a reason to at least check out the show, much in the same way that the build for Money in the Bank was worth at least checking out the show for as well. Besides that, it's the pageantry of the show, the history and the name value that gets the buys - like it or not.
And, in your opinion, that was enough for you to put down the $60 to see the show?
Everyone's entitle to their take on the event, I personally didn't see the worth in putting down the money, and even in hindsight, I still haven't seen the show and have no real desire to see that show.
Seeing as I put money into that show and went into it thinking it could be a fun and exciting view, I'd say yes. It accomplished its job not just with me but millions of viewers who once again put money into the pay-per-view.
Sure I could look at it from the hindsight that it was a bad investment outside of the Taker/Michaels match, but going into it I do recall enough care to put money into the show and view it with my friends.
this show was A-Fucking-Mazing the Nigel-Angle match literally made me mark out harder than the main event. Its probably because I am a Nigel mark. My review will be up tomorrow.
bought the replay didn't buy it right when it came on because I was out but when I got home and skimmed over these reviews on here I bought it as soon as the replay came on
Anyone who watches iMPACT & expect great matches are fucking crazy & want too much from a company who has like a 60 man roster and a 2 hour TV deal a week. All I ask from TNA is to make iMPACT entertaining. If that means less wrestling that's fine because I don't need 40 minutes of wrestling in 2 hours to be happy. I just want to be entertained. The build up to Turning Point was awesome IMO because the promos and segments were great. Which in returned hyped me up more than any 10 min match can
Who said anything about 10min matches on impact all I said is that it needed to be better...other than the two main matches for the PPV everything else was built up for crap and it is very seldum entertaining.
The matches on Impact don't have to be great all the time. But here are the problems (and again this is with WWE as well, so these are collective faults of today's wrestling)
Why do they always try to mesh together PPV matches into tag matches on the TV shows & then sell it like its a big deal? If you do it all the time, its not a big deal. If its a once in a while thing, then fine, but doing it all the time just gets repetitive & boring.
2nd, and this one is more specific to Impact, there is nothing wrong with squash matches. The Desmond/Deaner match was completely fine. My problem was with the Lashley/Cide match where Cide got demolished. Now Im not a big fan of either guy, so its not like I care one way or the other, but if you are selling Cide as a number one contender to a title, then he shouldnt get squashed. If you want to feed people to Lashley, thats fine, but cant you wrangle up some no names?
And this kind of goes into number 1, but why have PPV opponents wrestle before the PPV match? Now the Desmond/Angle match on Impact was fine because it actually furthered the storyline with Angle getting hurt (if you cant tell, I really liked this feud) But why did AJ wrestle Daniels? Why did AJ wrestle Joe?
The type of matches they should be doing are the type of matches I sometimes see on Superstars actually. I remember a few months ago they did Orton vs. Primo. That was perfect! It was a semi competitive match and a clean win for the champ. Showcased both guys, and padded the stats of the champion. No harm done.
I would also like to see more flat out squash matches. There are some guys that are on the bottom rung that they could use this for, like Deaner & Sharky, & get some no names.
TV shows should be used to push the stories and feuds and the PPV should be the payoff. Obviously the story has to continue after the PPV as I feel TNA & WWE should go back to the way it was in the Attitude Era when they had the over arching storyline (McMahon/Austin) and everything splintered off from that. I mean prime time TV shows like Lost do it and comic books do it, and I think it would work for wrestling as well because well, it has worked.
If you actually are trying to stick to the template that you're putting forth, the "Attitude Era" is probably the worst place to set your premise, for the simple fact that top guys always crossed paths on TV.
If anything, you probably should be talking about the mid 90's wrestling era of Hart/HBK/Austin, more than anything.
The only problem with going back to that era would be the TV ratings would fall through the floor for a show full of squash matches and promo videos.
It doesn't always have to be squash matches to build to a show, you can have the occasional big match thrown on free television for the sake of keeping interest in the show and keeping fans anticipating what else you'll throw their way in between purchasing pay-per-views.
Hell, follow the Heyman formula once in a while and have a feud ender on television every once in a while (I can't stress the emphasis on ONCE IN A WHILE) so the fans feel rewarded in between pay-per-views.
Bischoff's WCW Nitro(not the Russo-led crap) would throw fans a bone every week. You'd get ppv quality matches just about every week. if that's the direction TNA Impact is headed, I'm all in.
Yeah Nitro did give away big matches, but they would build them up for a few weeks (didn't they do that with Hogan/Luger in 97), so it felt like it was worth tuning into and they made us wait for it.
Instead nowadays, the shows don't seem to be booked until the show starts as they are making matches. 1st of all, why are there so many segments dedicated to booking matches for Raw, SD, Impact? Where did they get the idea that the process of match making was compelling enough to be on TV?
didn't do it with Hogan/Goldberg for the title. That could've donE an astronomical buy rate on top of possibly selling out the Georgia Dome. They gave that match only 3 days worth of hype. 3 FRIGGIN DAYS. The moral of the story is, you can make a lot more money saving the big matches for ppvs and giving us previews on free tv
I agree. That probably should have been the Starrcade main event. It was weird because they did a fantastic job of saving Hogan/Sting for the right moment, but then they kind of blew off Hogan/Goldberg for the sake of winning the ratings battle.
But, IMO, WCW threw away SO much money by following that exact formula for so long, which ended up hurting the company.
When the NWO/WCW storyline was rocking, through 1996-1997, you could afford to give away quality stuff on TV, because all that did was feed the frenzy for the feud.
Still, when things started to cool down and the feud wasn't getting the same response level in 1998, they needed to slow things down a bit, stretching out the Wolfpack/NWO feud, and picking up more money.
Exactly, not that there's anything wrong with squash matches, but if all i could look forward to week in and week out were squash matches, i'm not gonna tune. The reason WWE and TNA do those mixed feud tag matches is so that you give sort of a preview of what's to come on the ppv. Promos and beatdowns aren't a good enough gauge as to whether or not the fans should order the ppv. They have to see the wrestlers interact in a match in order to buy what would be the ppv payoff
A fan during the Main Event said it all... "THIS IS WHAT WE WANT"! First time since last year where I ordered two straight TNA PPV's. 9.0 is a spot on rating. And it is scary that this show could've gone to a 9.5-10.0 if MCMG/BMI/BI got more time to reach 4 stars. I legit got goose bumps during the Nigel/Angle and AJ/Joe/Daniels which is a first time I got goosebumps since HBK/Taker. Amazing show all TNA needs to do is improve impact.
If I had to pick one, it'd be BFG, just because of the fact that it's going to be a two-disc set, with a lot of extras, including the promo package that ended up being the hard-sell for the PPV as well as some additional "beyond the ring" footage of the wrestlers, in addition to a wrestling PPV card that I felt was a pretty solid one, with extra nostalgia of Sting, hopefully, being in his final World title match before he hangs up the boots.
Angle vs. Wolfe was a very good wrestling match. I loved the psychology and the storytelling. Wolfe knew everything in Angle's playbook, so Angle had to pull out an unexpected move in order to beat him. I actually liked it better than the triple threat.
That is why you need to be wathing spinnernet videos instead of this high might prick who removes people comments some times then never answer messages.

NYG4LIFE123 2 years ago
But all of that said, the double main event to TP was pretty sweet.
I think they should have made us wait for Desmond/Angle. Imagine how awesome it would have been if we did wait for it? But that was a hell of a match. Loved it.
The 3 way didn't quite match the Unbreakable match, but I wasn't expecting it to. It actually came alot closer than I thought it would. Awesome display there, and a great match, despite my issues with the flawed set up for it.
TP was very good overall.
NYG4LIFE123 2 years ago
I don't care for ratings and stars and such, but I think that the show only had its' two main events to fall back on. Outside of the amazing main events, it was nothing special featuring 2 women matches, 6 man borefest with a usual swerve and a worse Steiner/Lashley brawl.
(And yes,I paid for the show).

I was at Turning Point in person last night and the show was just unreal. And yes :ashley and Steiner was the worst match of the night, when they went to the back we were all just standing there like,"uh ok this sucks, next match. But other than that the crowd was electric and I dont know how it came off on tv but the crowd was really loud and insane.I hope TNA goes up from here and dont look back because I'm over wwe and I just want some good macthes again like last night
lookhereholmes 2 years ago
The last two matches should be an indication of TNA's direction to Dixie Carter......new talent and some of your present talent are the key to the future. It's not Hogan or any other WWE retreads. Look to the indy's or oversees for new talent. And please improve the Knockouts Division. And PLEASE control the Hulksters ego. Copying Vince is not going to beat Vince.

omgwtfbbq34 2 years ago
yeahh but i think either daniels may reveal himself as the attacker. it jus seems that way, considerin how pissed he looked las night (good reaction by daniels btw).
or if tomko returns as planned, maybe tna could tease daniels bein the attacker and play the "bitter anger/jealousy" card into the storyline.
showstopper316 2 years ago
impossible since AJ got atacked and Danils at the same time was being choked out by samoa joe..
Why is tomko coming back? why not sign chris hero?
TNAFAN2000 2 years ago
daniels actually being reveal as the attacker, i'll admit is unlikely, but him turnin heel ain't. neither is the whole "daniels bein bitter and pissed at aj" thing. i don't know how tna wants to do it, but i'm just saying they COULD tie daniels in to the attack on aj.

The thing that really helped this ppv is that there was no STING!!!!!!!!!!

CharismaticShredder 2 years ago
Man please. Don't try to blame Sting for anything. Look at the opponents he was facing, look at his booking, and look at the little bit of time his matches were given. Sting is not a shit wrestler at all. If they give his matches the time, he could have great matches but for some reason they didn't do that. They're booking AJ Styles world title matches very good.
kob456 2 years ago
No i agree, it felt refreshing to not see Sting (God bless him) get lost or have his tongue dragging during the main event. Sting is a legend, but he needs to respectfully bow out
bighustle 2 years ago

SomethinLikeGod 2 years ago
With what on their card is WWE going to deliver a good show for Survivor Series?
"Super" Cena vs. the members of DX?
Undertaker vs. "chicken-shit" Punk?
A divas match? where?
Orton vs. Kofi is developing into a pretty entertaining program, but instead of delivering Kofi vs. Orton, in a match that could possibly make Kingston's career, win or lose, WWE ties it down in an elimination tag match.
Rhodes/DiBiase vs. Cryme Tyme, for the unified tag straps could've been a hell of a program.
scipio2009 2 years ago
But instead they are only going to be "background noise" to the Orton/Kofi feud, with Show/Jericho holding the tag belts as a makeshift team.
Now DX jumps into the main event scene, challenging not for the tag belts, but instead the WWE title, since that's what duos are supposed to be targeting.
And with all of that, Christian, the man that's been almost single-handedly carrying the star power on ECW is without a decently fresh match for the show.
I doubt it
scipio2009 2 years ago
Sacrificing great matchups for tradition. What a terrible trade off, i'd hate to be the guy that had to make that decision. I don't believe in the BIG4 anymore. WrestleMania and the Royal Rumble are guaranteed to deliver and everything else is in the same boat of hit or miss. I purchase based on the price ($45, steep much?) and the quality of the card. Not on name value alone. Surely, most people will buy Survivor Series just of name value, but it doesn't look to be great imo
bighustle 2 years ago
Now I can see buying the Royal Rumble; the Rumble match with it's spectacle and all, but 'Mania?
What was on that card, besides the tradition of the show, that warranted plopping down almost $60 to see? Maybe Taker/HBK, but outside of that not very much, IMO
scipio2009 2 years ago
Given the feud between Triple H and Orton (say what you will about the horrid back-and-forth nature that resembled every bad moment of the Attitude era that I've ever personally hated), I'd say that was a reason to at least check out the show, much in the same way that the build for Money in the Bank was worth at least checking out the show for as well. Besides that, it's the pageantry of the show, the history and the name value that gets the buys - like it or not.
moralvirus 2 years ago
And, in your opinion, that was enough for you to put down the $60 to see the show?
Everyone's entitle to their take on the event, I personally didn't see the worth in putting down the money, and even in hindsight, I still haven't seen the show and have no real desire to see that show.
But that's just me
scipio2009 2 years ago
Seeing as I put money into that show and went into it thinking it could be a fun and exciting view, I'd say yes. It accomplished its job not just with me but millions of viewers who once again put money into the pay-per-view.
Sure I could look at it from the hindsight that it was a bad investment outside of the Taker/Michaels match, but going into it I do recall enough care to put money into the show and view it with my friends.

Which in returned hyped me up more than any 10 min match can
sinz187 2 years ago
Who said anything about 10min matches on impact all I said is that it needed to be better...other than the two main matches for the PPV everything else was built up for crap and it is very seldum entertaining.
TSlay1974 2 years ago
The matches on Impact don't have to be great all the time. But here are the problems (and again this is with WWE as well, so these are collective faults of today's wrestling)
Why do they always try to mesh together PPV matches into tag matches on the TV shows & then sell it like its a big deal? If you do it all the time, its not a big deal. If its a once in a while thing, then fine, but doing it all the time just gets repetitive & boring.
NYG4LIFE123 2 years ago
2nd, and this one is more specific to Impact, there is nothing wrong with squash matches. The Desmond/Deaner match was completely fine. My problem was with the Lashley/Cide match where Cide got demolished. Now Im not a big fan of either guy, so its not like I care one way or the other, but if you are selling Cide as a number one contender to a title, then he shouldnt get squashed. If you want to feed people to Lashley, thats fine, but cant you wrangle up some no names?
NYG4LIFE123 2 years ago
And this kind of goes into number 1, but why have PPV opponents wrestle before the PPV match? Now the Desmond/Angle match on Impact was fine because it actually furthered the storyline with Angle getting hurt (if you cant tell, I really liked this feud) But why did AJ wrestle Daniels? Why did AJ wrestle Joe?
NYG4LIFE123 2 years ago
The type of matches they should be doing are the type of matches I sometimes see on Superstars actually. I remember a few months ago they did Orton vs. Primo. That was perfect! It was a semi competitive match and a clean win for the champ. Showcased both guys, and padded the stats of the champion. No harm done.
I would also like to see more flat out squash matches. There are some guys that are on the bottom rung that they could use this for, like Deaner & Sharky, & get some no names.
NYG4LIFE123 2 years ago
TV shows should be used to push the stories and feuds and the PPV should be the payoff. Obviously the story has to continue after the PPV as I feel TNA & WWE should go back to the way it was in the Attitude Era when they had the over arching storyline (McMahon/Austin) and everything splintered off from that. I mean prime time TV shows like Lost do it and comic books do it, and I think it would work for wrestling as well because well, it has worked.
NYG4LIFE123 2 years ago
If you actually are trying to stick to the template that you're putting forth, the "Attitude Era" is probably the worst place to set your premise, for the simple fact that top guys always crossed paths on TV.
If anything, you probably should be talking about the mid 90's wrestling era of Hart/HBK/Austin, more than anything.
The only problem with going back to that era would be the TV ratings would fall through the floor for a show full of squash matches and promo videos.
scipio2009 2 years ago
It doesn't always have to be squash matches to build to a show, you can have the occasional big match thrown on free television for the sake of keeping interest in the show and keeping fans anticipating what else you'll throw their way in between purchasing pay-per-views.
Hell, follow the Heyman formula once in a while and have a feud ender on television every once in a while (I can't stress the emphasis on ONCE IN A WHILE) so the fans feel rewarded in between pay-per-views.
moralvirus 2 years ago
Bischoff's WCW Nitro(not the Russo-led crap) would throw fans a bone every week. You'd get ppv quality matches just about every week. if that's the direction TNA Impact is headed, I'm all in.
babyface76 2 years ago
Yeah Nitro did give away big matches, but they would build them up for a few weeks (didn't they do that with Hogan/Luger in 97), so it felt like it was worth tuning into and they made us wait for it.
Instead nowadays, the shows don't seem to be booked until the show starts as they are making matches. 1st of all, why are there so many segments dedicated to booking matches for Raw, SD, Impact? Where did they get the idea that the process of match making was compelling enough to be on TV?
NYG4LIFE123 2 years ago
didn't do it with Hogan/Goldberg for the title. That could've donE an astronomical buy rate on top of possibly selling out the Georgia Dome. They gave that match only 3 days worth of hype. 3 FRIGGIN DAYS. The moral of the story is, you can make a lot more money saving the big matches for ppvs and giving us previews on free tv
bighustle 2 years ago 2
I agree. That probably should have been the Starrcade main event. It was weird because they did a fantastic job of saving Hogan/Sting for the right moment, but then they kind of blew off Hogan/Goldberg for the sake of winning the ratings battle.
NYG4LIFE123 2 years ago
But, IMO, WCW threw away SO much money by following that exact formula for so long, which ended up hurting the company.
When the NWO/WCW storyline was rocking, through 1996-1997, you could afford to give away quality stuff on TV, because all that did was feed the frenzy for the feud.
Still, when things started to cool down and the feud wasn't getting the same response level in 1998, they needed to slow things down a bit, stretching out the Wolfpack/NWO feud, and picking up more money.
scipio2009 2 years ago
Exactly, not that there's anything wrong with squash matches, but if all i could look forward to week in and week out were squash matches, i'm not gonna tune. The reason WWE and TNA do those mixed feud tag matches is so that you give sort of a preview of what's to come on the ppv. Promos and beatdowns aren't a good enough gauge as to whether or not the fans should order the ppv. They have to see the wrestlers interact in a match in order to buy what would be the ppv payoff
bighustle 2 years ago
