  • It's a SOLDER not SODDER. For Christ's sake stop butchering the English language. Nice video BTW.

  • @DarthInsidiom Cute, but unfortunately that is the correct pronunciation of solder. Go to Merriam Webster and look up solder, they will provide you a nice little blue speaker, click on that and it will help you out. Thanks for the comment. The video is kind of old and there are some good deals on modified meters on eBay so it was mostly for the older unmodified meters. Thanks again and take care.

  • ok, i just got one of these, how do i install one of the toggle switches?

  • lo venden en amazon K-II EMF Meter - K2 Meter

  • eBay.com

  • Mine has an on/off switch. This might be a current model upgrade.

  • why does my k2 meter pulsate like every minute or 30 seconds on the green light at any location in my home when i use it?

  • honestly guys, i dont like k2 meter its to senseitive,80$ device faild to a 40$ ghost meter pro.i tested the k2 meter dont like it

  • The thumb button on mine can be clicked if you push enough (which isn't much needed force) and it'll stay on, I've played with it quite a bit. I don't know if it's just a newer version or what, but it kinda acts like the toggle switch on the side but all within in the center button.

  • anyone wanna buy the ghost busters acadmemy kit

    msg me for info

  • thanks for the tip will have watch for that thanks for posting

  • and how did you do that??

  • where did you buy your k2?

  • uikyrfwerij

  • Mine has the constant on/off switch built in however I'm not sure how well it stacks up to the older design. (see my vid)

  • The newest K-II meter has an on/off switch, no need to modify it or stick a penny in it. I have one and it works great. Never gives a false reading and only shows a reading if you place it close to a known EMF source. I was unable to get any readings on it unless I put it up close to my external hard drive or my MP3 player while it was charging. Can also get a strong reading when placing it next to the back of my TV but have never gotten a false reading at all. Very good device.

  • can u make a video on how to add the switch on the k2meter by showing how its done thanks

  • in Ghost Hunters they just stick a penny under the edge of the switch to hold it 'On'

  • i think k2 is quite unreliable. the readings could be easily be efected by any radio wave.

  • My K2 meter has a toggle switch... no issues, I think they made a press on/press off one

  • Had my very first hunt last night at the Mansfield Reformatory in OH. What a great place! I hope to get one of these for my next session - thanks for the info!

  • @Sheka57

Any electronics store, if you have a Radio Shack near by they have a good selection of switches, just make sure it toggles on/off and isn't a 'momentary' toggle switch. Thanks.

  • this does have the headphones jack dosent it?

  • @ding171

K-II's from the manufacturer don't produce any sound and therefore don't have audio jacks of any kind. Thanks for your comment.

  • Just bought mine off of Amazon, and it does have the modification, with the push-on, push-off switch.

    model #:

    B001PFPTCS

    ★★★★★ on amazon

Came in just 2 days by ground(very fast for standard shipping)

  • Best way to modify a KII is to set it on a table or hard surface. Get a large roofing hammer or other heavy blunt object, and with a swift, downward motion hit the KII repeatedly until it's about 100 small pieces. These things are garbage. They offer no accuracy in their readings, are notoriously susceptible to stray RF, and are basically only designed to tell you if your alarm clock is too close to your head while you sleep.

  • @soberdave1971 so whats a good brand to look into?

  • @cvmiata LOL I think in his world, a hammer works on all brands.

  • @cvmiata Trifield Natural is a great meter...just has a bit of a learning curve involved with it. I run mine in conjunction with a series of compasses as well. It's sensitive enough that is anything causes a fluctuation within the fields near the compasses it will cause the meter to sound.

  • cool, good to know

  • they have a K2 METER with a push on and off button i will get it very soon for my ghost hunting team

  • K-II does not make a K-II EMF Meter with a push on/off switch. They only offer momentary switches. The Push On/Off switches are third party modifications of the existing K-II meters. If you are looking for a Push On/Off K-II meter, there are some nice modified ones on eBay. Thanks for the post. Enjoy your meter when you get it.

  • @DigitalMDX Uhhh, sorry D, but yes they do. The latest models have a built in switch under the thumb on/off button eliminating this problem. I just purchased one for our Paranormal Group and its got the switch thankfully.

  • @DigitalMDX Uhhh, sorry D, but yes they do. The newest models have a click on/click off switch under the thumb on/off button. I just purchased one for our paranormal group.

  • They Do Make An On Off Swith For This Meter Cuz I Haver The Exact Same One And I Can Hit The Button ONce For On And Once For Off....

  • Ive got the on/off switch so i dont have to hold down the tab. I suggest you put a penny under the crack so you dont have to hold it

  • Thank you!

  • they do make this meter with an on/off switch as well

  • They don't offer the meter with a switch. There are a lot of people offering modified meters. One of the better ones I've seen has an internal push on / push off switch. Do a search on Amazon for K-II push on push off and you should find them.

  • even with my speakers turned right up i can hardly hear you.

  • i can hear him just fine

  • have you ever used it to look for paranormel activites?

  • Yes, we've used them on many investigations. I have 5 K-II meters. They work really well for placing in front if the IR cameras for the DVR system. The LEDs show up very well on the IR cameras. Take care.

  • Thanks for the info.

But I'm not from the US, so I have to find a seller who can ship. It cost a bomb at ebay but thats my last choice.

  • Do you think u can cheat with K II?

Like... can you control the switch to twice or single

How much does this cost & brand?

  • The easiest way to "cheat" with a K-II meter is with a signal, such a from a two way radio. With the toggle switch you can't "cheat" by pressing the thumb button and if you use the toggle switch to "cheat" all you're going to get is the power on and off sequence and you'll hear the switch clicking as you turned it on or off. As for Brand, K-II Enterprises makes all the K-II meters. As for switches, most any will work for you. I charge $20 for those who don't want to do it their selves. Thanks

  • Woah only 20$? Im looking on Ebay and their saying its worth $78.90..

  • I believe that would be for a modified meter (meter included). The $20 is only for the modification to your existing meter. If you know someone who is handy with a soldering iron, they shouldn't have any problems modifying a meter for you. I offer that to those people who don't have someone to modify their meter for them. Take care...

  • ok thnx for that info. good thing u notice this kind of stuff

  • good vid but if u watch taps they use a coin and jam it in the button.

  • That's one of the points in this video. The switch is mounted directly to the circuit board via the solder joints without any strain relief. Over time these solder joints will fail by exerting force on them from coins jammed in the slot. You will also see TAPS using one with a giant toggle switch sticking out the side.

    Thanks for your comments.

  • I call B.S. I've never seen taps use a modified K-II. they use coins and paper clips just like everyone else. you're just out there trying to bilk people out of their money for an unessesary and possibly damaging alteration. never trust equipment modified from it's original design. it will just render any readings unreliable.

  • They've used a couple of different versions of a modified K-II meter. What episode did they use a paper clip? I would like to see that, I don't think a paper clip would work well if at all. On a side note, I'm only offering to modify meters of those who don't have access to a soldering iron or have the skills necessary to do it themselves. If you can solder and drill holes you should have no problem modifying it yourself. Thanks for your comments.

  • Either way, it's a poorly designed piece of junk, no offense. Check out the Princeton University - Psyleron REG-1 Kit. A kit of much better quality and reliability towards anomalous research into the unknown. Very kewl.

  • Actually they are economically priced consumer level EMF meters. The REG-1's look interesting but the price points are going to keep them out of many peoples hands. Certainly something to keep an eye on though.

    Thanks for your comments.

  • The KII-EMF meter was designed with 'defrauding' the public in mind with respect to the paranormal phenomenon. The momentary push button was designed for the operator to interact with the alledged ghost.

  • I'm not sure where your getting your misinformation but the K-II was never designed for paranormal use. It like most equipment in the paranormal arena was brought in from other areas. According to the manufacturer the K-II was designed to measure harmful EMF in the home, workplace and school.

  • to use the K-2 you need to have your finger on it all the time?

  • Hi aclaehsen. Yes, on an unmodified K-II meter the push button is a momentary on button. Once you release pressure on the thumb button the unit powers off. The switch modification eliminates the need for the thumb switch to be used.

  • It's also because the original purpose is for electricians who don't need it to be constantly on. Just slip a dime or other coin into the slot and it stays powered on just fine. No real need to modify it.

  • Dimes and other objects work but over time cause solder joint failure at the switch connections on the circuit board. If you want your K-II to last, install a switch.

  • It's a pointless device. Pressure affects response on a standard meter, temperature changes and contraction of any clamps, wedges etc will affect it too. Even on a modified meter, random interference can affect any response, such as mobile phone signals.

The TAPS show is the only time I have ever seen this meter give a response that even comes close to potentially genuine. And that could have been faked by crew, or simply been coincidence.

  • I think the Mfg. would argue that it is a pointless device. If your meter is reacting with false positives due to pressure on the switch then you have a defective meter and should have it checked out. It is most likely a loose solder joint on the switch. As for "random interference", that is the purpose of the meter, to pickup up EMF. (That is why you do baseline readings). Mobile phones? I would hope that all mobile phones are turned off during an investigation. Thank you for your comments.

  • To follow up on your 'pressure affects response'. The only time pressure affects the response is the lack of enough pressure from a persons thumb on the button (on an unmodified K-II). Any inanimate force on the push button will cause stress to the circuit board as shown in the video and over time will eventually fail. Thanks again for your comments.

  • it will NOT cause stress on the circut board! Just like if you keep your thumb on it. a small plastic clamp will do no damage to k 2 meter. Its light pressure. MAYBE a bit more than your thumb. This video is a waiste.

  • Wrong. simply because you're not really using the device the way it's intended to be.

Investigations tend to last for hours, switching on/off several times, and apart from getting your thumb tired of pushing, yes

the external toggle switch is way more secure.

it's not like you're making a fast sweep in a client's house looking for electical leaks, 5 minutes and you're done..

  • Using a light clamp on it is just as efficient as a toggle switch. Plus you don't have to take the thing apart with the possibility of breaking it. You can get clamps at walmart for like $8 for a whole bag of 12. But to each his own.

  • Come on, a light clamp? how unprofessional can it be? sure it works.. but...

  • I meant Lite clamp as in not a lot of pressure or heavy in weight. not a light clamp for clamping lights (possibly my bad). Anyway, Ghost Hunting is not a Profession. A clamp is more practical than taking apart a K-2 meter. This is really a stupid coversation. This thred is over. If you want to waist your time, your money, and your piece of equipment thats fine with me. A $2 clamp works just as well if not better to keep the button pressed than a toggle switch.

  • go to walmart, get a small plastic clamp to keep the button down. YOU DONT HAVE TO open it up and get all fancy schmancy. You dont need to drill anything. the clamp applies enough pressure to keep it down and secure. Also, dimes...dont do it as it will tear up your k-2 over time. Happy haunting...dont take apart our k-2 meter!!

  • Thank you for the comment. Absolutely, there are lots of things that will hold the button down. If your doing this for yourself it works great. However, when you walk into a clients house for an investigation and you start clamping meters you tend to lose credibility. It's all about professionalism. But like I said, if it's just you and friends... then get creative! Thanks again.

  • Very informative, I highly recommend anyone to watch this video to get to the heart of what makes a KII meter work. IMO, all KII meters should have the toggle switch.

    Nicely done!

  • I like both your TAPS-related videos. Very informative and entertaining. Thank you.

  • very helpful and thanks!

  • where can i get a higher profile togol switch installed on my k2 meter

  • Check out GhoStAugustine. They will do the mod for $20.

  • RadioShack has a couple toggle switches!

    togol.... lolz

  • How cant I tell if mine is broken? I dropped the thing a few nights ago and it seems less sensitive. is there some one who can fix it?

  • The K2 Is a very good meter but turning your phone on or off will set if off as well I have tested this. Also hand held radios will set them off as well thats why I don't bring those things on investigations but its good to test all this to know what not to bring on a investigation to give you false readings. I learned this the hard way.

  • I borrowed one from my uncle who is a construction worker. His this this exactly, only it has a power on and off switch. :]

And it only goes off if my phone receives a text, thats it.

  • Intelligent blog. thanks

  • I have used the K2 allot on investigations and will only believe the footage of it going off if nobody is within 15 ft of it as cells phones can set them off from 10 ft.

  • Watch that episode of Ghost Hunters again and watch his hands, he doesnt touch the power switch all the time as shown in this "video" so this proves nothing

  • These meters ONLY measure AC leakage. The meter itself can be manipulated in various ways to make the lights blink. Foolish people will believe anything! Throw it away unless you need to measure Alternating Current leakage in your home!

  • Good info, Thanks

  • there is a modified one now, with a on off switch!

  • This is very true! I hate having to hold the button down.

  • You're right about the popularity due to its TV appearance. Ah.. the power of the idiot box!

  • Good job!

    Thanks for the help.

  • that's a good idea.
