@aznpiccolo Wastegates not connected; they are in parallel, each turbo is independent and fed by their own 2 cylinders. There's a balance tube connection each individual exhaust manifold.
Thanx for the fast reply, that helped. Think it's possible to use a 3000GT's VR4 twin turbo in the Miata without having to move too much around? Not all that familiar with size's of turbo's and such.
@ThatsForHorses It's DIY as I am not a 'professional' I guess, I'm all self-taught so no doubt I'm proably doing a few things incorrectly. My site is absurdflow. But basically if you want to build your own manifold, you need money to buy a good welder (i use a Lincoln TIG185) and some cheap harborfreight tools like an angle grinder and die grinder. And a sharpie or two. Safety glasses. Ear plugs. I buy raw material from mcmaster, ATP & vibrant and have the flanges waterjetted locally.
292 HP? My Camaro does more than that stock. Before you start to foam at the mouth My friend with my help is shoe horning a 7.4 Chevy into his Miyata. Trans will be a 4L80E art car Unit with external computer to control and tune the shifts. he's getting custom Ebach springs and I'm spending allot of time on the lathe making poly bushings.
@menahunie007 Your camaro is also a cow. Cows sure do have more muscles than a lion, that's for sure. And i'm sure cows are faster than lions. Oh wait.
@chevyguy262 This video was with smaller turbos. The larger turbo setup (twin GT1548'S) made 292rwhp with plenty of headroom and cool intake air temps. See other videos. Didn't go higher as ~280rwhp tends to be where stock parts grenade. I have about 195k miles on the drivetrain and don't want to break anything expensive.
power to weight must be off the handle. always liked them, but need a hatchback. had a 300hp focus till my wife put it in a tree one day coming home in the rain.
yea guidoCUPIDO, you twat if you dont like miata's piss-off,. i got a 260bhp single turbo one it beats everything it comes across ( buy a decent car) you wont find a better car for the price miata's are!!!!!
@Joesmx5 true i got mine for $800 the only prob was the head gasket was blown to pieces it literally came off in 3 pieces im not sure how it happened but hell i think it was like around $200 for parts and i did it all my self
holy shit how did u manage 2 get a twin turbo kit set up in that that lil 1.8 liter engine. i'd bet it turns alot of head with all that power it's pushing. i have a 2004 mx-5 and the power is rated at 380 hp and the torque is rated at 328 plus it's making about 20 lbs of clean cold air and i just got a brand new rx-8 replica ditgital speedomiter for my mx-5 and the top speed is rated at a 180mph which 280 kmh if i'm not mistaken and if i am then i stand corrected.
I built the setup. It's making decent power, but not as much as other single turbo kit's I have done. I don't really show the car that much so it doesn't turn heads. The car is all rusty anyway.
Exercise in fabrication mostly, and I wanted to try something different. Other kits we build make more hp with less cost and complexity. For a small displacement 4cyl it's hard to beat a properly sized single BB turbo mated with an optimized manifold & DP.
In it's current form (two GT1548's, this video is two GT1544's, 270rwhp @12psi) it works okay, spool is on the slow side of average for the other popular single turbo kits from BEGI or FM, however response/lag time is decently quick once it does get spooled.
The setup with two GT1544's (this video) had GREAT spool and response, but definitely ran out of steam early (only 240rwhp at @13psi) and produced rather high IAT's.
As a comparison, if you look at "Pauls" dyno video in my videos you'll see a highly optimized single GT2560R kit we built, which spools quicker than BEGI/FM GT2554R's (much quicker than my TT's) and pulls hard to 7000rpm, making just over 300rwhp @ 13-14psi.
My car feels very quick and fun, until you drive his.
I'm pretty sure I can get very close to 300rwhp @14psi next time we go to this dyno, but I will not have his insta-spool and great low end torque, in a turbo setup that's much more compact, inexpensive, and robust.

@ThatsForHorses I don't know.

Can you post a link showing how to do this? IE, steps, parts, and if this is DIY or professional work?
thankyou.

Maybe a twin top mount manifold in the future ? I know engine bay space is a big issue but that would be hella cool

Im going to do a quad turbo kit!! like that evo head floating around on the internet. wish me luck

any reason for the twin setup? better response, or just the feat of fabricating it? no hate, just wondering.

so wait, you're making under 300rwhp, ona twin turbo miata? why?
fucingpwnz0rz 3 years ago
Because the turbos are too small to make more than 300 at 14psi.

cool12291 3 years ago
or not...
its at 209rwhp dude...
JgHaverty 3 years ago
The uncorrect rwhp was in the mid 230's, TORQUE was 209. Top lines are rwhp, bottom lines are torque. Corrected peak rwhp was 241.
This car last dynoed at 270rwhp, decent for the street and OEM drivetrain.
True, 200rwhp is not much at all for any 1.8.
