@wickybabu so far so good. one of the best investment ive made =]. great quality. Im currently using the stock kit 18-55mm lens and a 75-300mm that i bought seperatly. it will record video at 1080p. it has alot of built in features and modes for a noob like me lol, but i would recommend getting the 50mm 1.8 since it has a higher aperture than stock and will give you a better image compared to the stock kit. I would recommended to you.

I think the tilty screen is very useful. It's probably not worth the extra cost for most, but for us we take pics of ourselves alot and it's usually a guessing game on where to point the camera. So the screen is very nice in helping you see your self in the screen.

Guys, I noticed that I can take a picture on t3i while recording movie only when digital zoom is off. But when the digital zoom is on, I`m not able to take a photo when I press the shutter button. Is this only on my t3i or on all of them? The camera manual does`t detail this out specifically and simply says that 'the still picture can be taken while shooting a movie by pressing the shutter button completely'. Please let me know. Thanks!

@PigsArseifyYou LCD screen? All reviews will tell you the D5100 has better image quality especially at high ISO values, and it does. It was also about $300 cheaper in my case. Definitely a great purchase. Pictures at ISO 1600 look great even in dim rooms. The 5D Mark II is way better at ISO 1600+, but for the price this is the best camera out right now. You should read some reviews, look at comparisons or use both cameras before declaring one better. :P

@iSOBigD high ISO quality is different from image quality. i reviewed both cameras myself. -.- you are new to photography. its quite obvious. a sensor packed with more megapixels give you more noise, but more details too. End of the day, its you who make the photo good. not the camera. and tbf, the d5100's menu was a headache.

@PigsArseifyYou I really don't know how much simpler you need a menu to be. It's child-friendly, it's as simple as a $100 camera menu and nothing is hidden away. I can't imagine anyone would have a hard time using it, I was doing macro in my room and long exposure star photography within a few minutes after opening the box. The resolution is also 18vs16.2 MP which is about a 10% difference. What exactly don't you like about it? It's low price for superior image quality?

@iSOBigD in my country, the price is the same. you cannot compare cameras using percentage. a 1.5x and 1.6x is not that big a difference. at low ISOs, 600d is better. its more geared towards outdoor and street photography. As you are a studio photographer, you cannot understand the need to change settings quickly. and the d5100 is TINY! probably because i have large hands and i dont like the dial which is at the back. i will still use my Nikon FE at the end of the day. Film > Digital

@PigsArseifyYou Well I guess the truth finally came out. You have neither camera and your "film is better" argument is ridiculous, we're not in 1930 anymore. These new digital cameras have a higher ISO and shutter speed range, nicer displays, better previews, the ability to delete pictures, change iso on the fly, get instant results, get much bigger prints, in camera timer for time-lapse, etc. Nice talking to you.

One very good thing with the 600D = when you pack it down you just flip the screen inside so it won't get scratches on it when your carrying it.

For video on the camera is there a way to make the whole picture focused, it is really difficult filming when your have to manually change the focus every time you want to zoom in. Please reply if you know how to make the whole video slightly in focus!

I am aware cards write at different speeds, and thus inevitably effect cost, but what card would be best, or should I just go out and purchase a 100pound card and future proof myself in case I decide to upgrade my camera later on?

Frankly, unless you are shooting sports or wildlife (real wildlife = elusive beasts that you don't see everyday), there is no point in getting a 60d or even a 7D over a 600D. The quality of portraits are going to be EXACTLY the same (assuming the person taking the pictures is the same). The only move for "better" photographs would be a 5D mkii.

@dtrok9 The 1100D is the cheapest way to start into DSLR photography from Canon. The Nikon 3100 is another alternative. Very similar cameras. If want good HD video included in the package for the cheapest price then theres always this 600D.

@koora8 Although I don't own one I would recommend the T2i just because it's smaller and feels (in my opinion) better in the hand. The T3i doesn't have that many more features and instead of getting it I would get the T2i and with the rest you've saved (by not buying the T3i) I would get some accessories.
