I know this video was posted a long time ago but Rays Engineering is not a subsidiary of Mackin. Mackin is just the company that imports them into North America (along with other brands and other types of products).
@shimjohn RAYS Engineering is NOT a subsidiary of Mackin Industries. Mackin Industries is a DISTRIBUTOR of RAYS Engineering products only. Please amend your information.
It comes down to what type of wheel you buy from either manufacturer and what manufacturing process that wheel underwent. There are various processes for forging and whilst both companies use forging as the best construction, only slight variations of the processes differentiate one from another. Essentially they are the same. The real question is to be asked, which one will be affordable?
Materials, Production Process, and to produce a product in japan on this scale (Large Facility) makes it so costly. But still Volk racing is no more costly than German Made BBS wheels.
Depends about size, but i have 19'' on car and one Rays coast between 1500$-2200$ for 20'' or greater, of corse forged aluminum-magnesium, and coated with special material to protect the rim. usually 16'' about 700$, and 19'' to 1200$-1300$.
advertising. lawyers to write contractual agreements and warranties. warehouse costs. raw materials. humans to run the machines. humans to fix the machines. humans to run the company. packaging. shipping. distribution. supply and demand.
You need to get ouf of the "car scene" asap then. If you wont even drop 1k into rims, then what are you doing? i paid 380$ a rim for my gram light maximum's. Not once have i regretted it. Newb. -_-
Well going to the gym and losing a few pounds would contribute more to weight reduction than changing stock rims to aftermarket rims, LOL. Rims hardly make a difference. I just think that the main point of putting aftermarket rims on our cars is just to make our cars look good. If weight can be reduced, that's an added bonus.

@scottpkura
Just FYI:
BBS Germany (the one that went bankrupt) makes all of the cast wheels. (OEMs, and aftermarket)
All of the forged wheels (magnesium and aluminum alloys) for (F1, GT, LMP, Indy etc.) are made in Japan by Washi Beam Co. aka BBS Japan.

How much does a set of these wheels cost? Anyone know?
Gcoups 2 years ago
@Gcoups: That's a very general question you're asking. The prices vary between size, manufacturer, and weight. What are you looking to get? Size?

also when I get another car the rims will probably not fit so I don't pay over 1k for rims. I change cars every 5 years or so.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I usually buy Enkei for my 08 civic si. I prefer spending more on performance mods than on cosmetic stuff...rims really don't affect handling.
