  • English, as far as I know, come from Anglish, Latin and Saxon. It was later also mixed up with other dialects and variations of latin as Briton kept getting invaded between 6th and 11th century. :S

  • why does one side have a P ON THE SAILD AND THEY ARE WEST AND EAST ROME OK SOME REPLY PLZ TO THIS I NEED TO KNOW

  • @BLeedHem

    Bullshit.

  • I hate Constantine. He forced an empire to convert to an alien religion because of personal issues.

  • @Vovk3 There was no thing such as a native religion in ancient Rome during the imperial years (compared to an alien one)...the Romans adopted the Greek gods and during the time of their expansion foreign gods (such as the egyptian god of Isis or Zarathustra-the sun god or persia) were adopted in their Pantheon...about the matter of personal issues you refer to tell me one leader who doesn't use the power of religion on behalf of his own interests...

  • @lapislazuli248

Buddy, you don't get it. The Roman religion was to worship gods they recognized as powerful. If there was an Etruscan god who was deemed worthy of worship by them, they'd make a place for it. A particular set of gods doesn't necessarily make a religion. How gods are viewed does make a religion.

A leader who doesn't use religion for his own interests? Where did I imply that here wasn't one?

  • @lapislazuli248

The religion Constantine adopted was not in character for Rome.

  • @Vovk3 Surely not for Rome of the imperial years...but the Roman world in which Constantine lived was a world in decline economically in bad shape, military disorganized, with many civil wars and problems regarding the security of it's borders...what Constantine tried to do was to reorganize the empire by all means (military, trade etc) on a more homogenous base that thought it could be carried through a new thriving power which in his mind was christianity...anyway history proved him right...

  • Haha the soldiers maybe should have killed the Emperor too lol

  • TRUST NO ONE! KEEP YOUR FRIENDS AT A DISTANCE! & YOUR FAMILY! & ENEMIES EVEN FURTHER! & THE CATHOLIC RELIGION HAS MURDERED BILLIONS!

  • God one, gods zero!

  • @BLeedHem You believe in a magical invisable man, and anything that can't be explained must have come from god, your pathetic. lol and the devil, you really must be into to make belief fairy tales.

  • Peple like to overlook that while Constantine unified thr Empire under a single man/dynasty, he was not by any standards a nice man, he was every bit as brutal, heavy-handed and vicious as Diocletian or indeed any of the Emperors who preceded him. He married his sister off then later killed her husband and son, his own nephew, without a second thought

  • @Zeruel3 I figure that Constantine was a bit flexible on "One G-d" but less flexible on "One Empire" and hard over on "One Emperor".

  • @BLeedHem haha you are stupid. where is the god? lol science have been providing facts consistently. duuh redneck

  • LMAO secret weapon is a banner? this proves that christians in the early days are as dumb as now. THERE IS NO GOD. learn biology, astrology and study evolution.

  • I LUV THIS TYPE OF MOVIES

  • Long live The Roman Gods and Goddesses!

  • yeah but I live in Aus

  • ok wtf people got scared over a banner lol

  • @drifterofY you'd be the same if you saw a Chinese flag over Washington...

  • Chi Rho is a pretty bad ass symbol imo.

  • bro, as a christian i find it hilarious that atheist come on this video to debate christianity. This video isn't even supporting christianity. Its just showing how politically shrewd constantine was at both appealing to the growing christian masses, and how much of a military genius he was. you guys need to chill out. If you really hate christianity so much go kick and scream at some on some christopher hitchens video were the forum is appropriate. Jeeeezz.

  • I'm dyslexic, but even I know it's (Lacinius' camp).

  • What about Zenu?

  • 1:02 ALMOST swordfail

  • LadyAmaltheaUnicorn Thnk you for posting this great videos, otherwise I would have not had the chance to see them, because of strange copyrights laws in scandinavia

  • The comments on these videos are absolutely hilarious.

It seems to be either Atheists watching this and trying to prove Christians wrong, or Christians watching this and trying to prove Atheists wrong.

Let's take a look at the score board:

    Atheists: 0

    Christians: 0

  • @missyyo haha agreed

  • Why have a single God? If you are going to have an imaginary friend, why not have a whole bunch of them?

  • The hooded man was correct. God is indeed a lie.

  • @supersmash43 Prove that God is a lie.

  • @Dodo251 prove that he is not. he didnt exist at first .

  • @supersmash43 so,who created you?who created the world?the world will not be created if it does not contain enough oxygen and enough carbon dioxide.what i mean is,if oxygen is more than a very small %,the world will burn and a burning world will not create any living things.this is science.you have to learn more kiddosss.THINK!!!!!!

  • @setsuna950109 it would get to a new chemical ballance, so it wouldn't burn,

you don't know nothing about chemistry so THINK!

  • No one in this world can live in peace, can they?

  • @Skirata95 If they put their faith and belief in supernatural spirits and dogma over logic, science and free thought, then no they can't.

  • @Skirata95 No because of intolerant atheists who spread hate towards religious people they never even met. Look at almost any atheist video, you'll soon come to the same conclusion. They say religious people spread hate but it is quite apparent that these hypocrites are the first to tolerate intolerance by not giving any respect to people who believe in God. That's their idea of an 'enlightenment', mock religion and insult the believers until they reject God and join their hateful movement.

  • @Dodo251 God is a lie because he doesn't have an impact on real life if he exists.

  • @Dodo251 have you ever thought that religious people are not really monuments of tolerance themselves?

  • @ahmedeox More tolerant than liberal atheists, that's for sure.

  • long and drawn out like &

  • And here i thought that Rome's was a professional army ...

  • What a blow looking at Roman army during the late empire, its way of fighting is scandalous, nothing to do with previous formations and equipment...we praise Constantine 'cause of his exploit but not much time later all is gone to hell, of course!

  • lol the BBC was running out of props. At 3:01 you can see a few Greek/Carthaginian swords

  • a holy war is nothing more than a war of interpretation and tradition

  • just as religion is nothing more than assumption and naivety.

  • i though Constantine did not become a christian until he was near death?....

  • @LordAzanko No he was baptized near to his death,

  • @crazycuntryboy2 samething....

  • What a comet can do...

  • i believe it was a ufo, much cooler then a meteor

  • the Roman army at this point had largely slowed down on the discipline and fixed formations, the armor is different aswell. The metal tunica the legionaries were equipped with had been replaed with leather or mail beacuse it was too expensive, the armies consisted in large parts of Barbarians, Mercenaries and Germans who served Rome, as such. Their armies fought much like as they did, this made it easier and cheaper to recruit bigger armies

  • this is a movie they were probably re using props

  • You are probably right, but i dont believe the praetorian cohort would be equipped like that, its just like they are missing some aspects of the army, there seems to be no tactic at all

  • The Praetorian Guard had 2 sets of Uniforms, 1 for ceremonial and guard duty, and a Military field uniform. But the Guard rarely saw combat during their existence except during Otho, Probus and under Maxentius reign.

Regarding their uniforms, the ceremonial ones were very similar to the typichal Roman Centurion, except that the Head plume was pointer straight backwards.

Their field uniform was very much the same as the normal legionaries, but their shields had a scorpion or a moon as symbol

  • And I who thought they were the emperors and the citys bodyguard...

Nevertheless i still find it kinda hard to believe that the core of the roman army would abandon the traditional shield (im not talking about the auxillaries here). And the army are just charging ahead with no apparent tactic or formation, not really that kind of descendants i would believe Caesar, Scipio, Sulla and Pompey would have created..

  • no you were totally right, they were the emperors personal guard, but an unreliable sort indeed. Regarding the tactics they used in the movie, well at this point like I said. The Roman army had been increased in size, it had lost alot of quality as you can see in the equipment compared to the former units. Aswell as the tactics, their former training was very tough and required discipline. To drill mass armies, the discipline and training was relaxed, and cheaper equipment was used.

  • actually by this time in history most emperors had seen the political power of the praetorian guard and had it disbanded. Also this was about the time when Lorica Segmentata went out of use and chain and scale mail took over. This documentary is surprisingly accurate like how the Comitatenses (constantines new GI unit since the Legionaire) had iron darts on their shields that they could throw.

  • There is one thing in your comment I don't understand. Why did the Lorica Segmentata go out of use? Rust, maintenance issues, lack of sufficient metal? What?

  • why they scare of the symbol on 3:50?

  • the barbarians were afraid of magical signs of power..the X and P used by the roman catholic church even today are actually ancient RUNE symbols the X is gefu means gift the P is wunjo the J and N are silent its pronouced phonetically WOOOOOOOOOO like the howl of a wolf animal joy

they actually mean sex the gift of joy

however together superimposed they from the CALC symbol an upside down fork the sign OF DEATH

hence XP is the sign of death of joy

    scary to ancient barbarians

  • Yeah he plays the dad in shameless

  • Comment removed

  • Constantine looks kinda of British......no offense.

  • Constantine in this looks kinda of like a doosh no offence

  • Didnt the romans fight in a fixed formation? Why do they keep showing these battles as if they are barbarians?

Did roman fighting style change at some point?

  • Learn history, it is not the same army, tactics or uniforms in the Republican Rome than in the late Imperial Rome. They changed. This BBC documentary was supported and approved by historians experts on this period of the Roman Empire.

  • @carlosepech And here i was thikning that the first europeans to have edge cutting swords were the franks, i pictured more of an impaling contest than a head/limbs cutting spree...

  • Maybe. Because they lost their discipline.

  • of course not man i don tknow why its shown in this way, but i think this documental had to be made in Latin or at least in italiana, not in a barabaric language like english

  • english is the worlds universal language a amassador from japan and iran would use english aside from any other language

    also

    english is based on latin

  • @2436st english based on West German spanish is based on latin since its based on vuglar latin

  • @2436st English is part of the Anglo-Saxon languages, or Germanic; It is most closley related to Dutch, German and slightly to it's Scandanavian relatives. However, as English evolved, it began to encorporate words from Latin, which is why the average English-Speaker will find himself understanding many words and phrases in French, Spanish and Italian.

  • @2436st

English is a Germanic language. Almost all European languages have a great many elements of latin. It may be said it was based on latin (im not sure), but it is a germanic language and i would say based on the language of the ancient Germanic tribes much more then latin.

Spanish Portuguese, French and Italian etc. are latin languages.

  • @2436st And partly on the old danish. :3 (Viking immigration)

  • Comment removed

  • @2436st English is, at it's core, a Germanic language based on the language of the Anglo-Saxons. The large amount of Latin vocabulary in English comes from the Norman and French ruling class of England from 1066 to the 1500s. They're essentially loanwords

  • @2436st English is not a romance/neo-latin language. It is a west germanic language with some influences of norman (which is a romance language). But it remains a germanic one.

  • THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE HAS 80.000 WORDS , THE 40.000 WORDS OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE IS GREEK WORDS

@Lhein33 GO BACK IN SIBERIA AND LEAVE THE PROPAGANDA GERMANO-BARBARIAN

  • @Lhein33 THE REAL EGYPTIANS ARE THE GREEKS. THE PYRAMIDS OF EGYPT IS CREATION OF HERMES OF TRISMEGISTUS

  • @2436st THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE HAS LATIN ALPHABET AND 40.000 GREEK WORDS INSIDE. ALSO ,THE LATIN ALPHABET IS THE GREEK EBOEAN ALPHABET

  • didn't that guy die with an arrow in the neck in the first battle???

  • The cycle of hatred continues...would be that you pursued the wisdom that Christ taught with the same fervor that you condemn those who choose to follow a different path.

  • the actor in this film is pretty good.

  • gabriel angel told each kind a different story to mahomet, abraham and jesus

  • There is no Christian or Islamic god ... only fantasies and lies. Both religions were created and established by violence, death and wars.

  • No. Hatred is never good. I am a Methodist Christian and I believe that everybody should respect everybody else, no matter what their beliefs.

  • how do you come to that conclusion

  • Yes, how do you come to that conclusion? Slightly irrational no?

  • "By the sword we shall bring peace..."

With war we shall bring peace. Yes we all shall find peace when we die

  • warring for peace is like fucking for virginity

  • If Cristianity is freedom from sin, then why God allowed mankind to live in sin for thousands of years? Why Greeks, Romans, Egyptians and Persians lived in sin? Why not come to this earth and save our lives before that?

How could He be so cruel and condemn all these people to sin for so long?

  • Such a silly thing to say!

  • it is called irony

  • me too!

  • these were great 6 episodes imo, altho id love to have seen something about Claudius and Tiberius

  • I pay homage to all the gods, as my ancestors did. Christianity is slavery, paganism is knowledge and freedom. Constantine The Worst, is the biggest traitor that Rome ever had. Ego deos et deas amo. Ego id dixi.

  • weirdo

  • He needs a girlfriend

  • homage is fuedal you stupid mong

no feudlasm you idiot in greece or rome

  • freak!! the pagan gods are dead and are no more. do you see miricles from your gods? do u get blessings from them? i dont think so

  • what has christianity done for the world, many useless wars

  • wrong... that's what people has done, God has never supported these greedy causes of men. Christianity has done far more than you know for mankind. I am proud to say I am a christian and will be one even after I die. Just because some people do evil in the name of their version of God that won't make me turn from what Jesus truly taught in His Word.

  • No. Christianity has untied the Western World, just as Islam has united much of the Middle East. Every religion has its faults and its good points.

  • Right, which is why the Ancient Greek Religions ruled Empires, States and Republics for 3500 years.

  • Greco-Roman religions never lasted that long. The Greeks pretty much abandoned their religion after the Peloponnesian war, whose privations led the Greeks to abandon their religion. The Romans abandoned theirs sometime around the late republic. The Greco-Roman gods continued to be worshipped on an official level, but it ceased to be a viable religion standing on its own feet.

  • I am talking from before the Peloponnesian wars. Their religions started way back as you prob know, starting in the Bronze age etc.

  • What?! The Greek Religion lasted until the Christianzation same goes to the roman one that was greek inspired

  • dead, your kidding right? how would you like it if i insult your religion? and maybe there are blessings and your eyes are to clouded to see them.

  • Christianity is freedom from sin my friend

  • Anyone notice the splendid military tactics of earlier Roman went out the window in the fight scenes in this vid. Seems they went backwards the more time went forward. Just a group of different Barbarians badly lead by desperate hypocrits like Constantine where desperate lives replaced sensible tactics and creative generals of old

  • Do take into account however that the classical legions were catered to fighting an enemy army that was deployed in battle formations (usually armies of the hellenistic kingdoms or the carthaginians). The barbarian forces would fight in much looser formations and wouldnt necessarily all deploy for a big decisive battle.

The later roman empire had to adapt, and more mobile armies and looser formations were partly a necessity. However i admit that discipline wasnt as high in late antiquity.

  • I think Athena is an absolute babe...so I built a 20 foot statue of her to worship in my front garden.

  • according to achilles... he would rather be a slave or servant on earth than be a king or lord of hell or hades (elysian fields.. really?)...

i respect any kind of religion but please don't compare religion.. they have their own structure, ritual and bases respectable to other points of view..

religion helps lighten up the soul and make things clear..

there's a big difference between religion and fanatic belief..

hitler's use of christianity and osama bin laden's fanatic belief for example

  • Well that quote is from the Odyssey which did not have the Elysian fields. In Homer the Underworld is just a dark depressing place, not really bad, but not good either.

  • hey man.. its ok.. u pay homage to hades.. its ok unless ur joking..

but if u start to compare jupiter or hades to GOD.. man, its like moses and the pharoah wrath of GOD time..

people say this and that is more powerful than GOD except allah who is also contemporary name of GOD and buddha w/c symbolizes GOD's unending love..

in christian belief hades means hell.. cerberus is "leviathan" and charon is death.. achilles went to hades and he didn't like that place

  • remeber.. no empire will last forever.. sooner or later every empire regardless of how powerful and stable it is.. will just fall.. the only thing that is left is whats the empire's biggest contribution to the world that will make it immortal.. is it paganism like jupiter (???).. or its architecture, its beauty and political setting that some of our current government follow today..

if u worship mars, that means u like war and u always go to war.. zeus.. i like thunderbolt, plz shoot me...

  • I pay homage to Hades.

  • the period where constantine live was very bloody period and killing and slicing someone else throat off is just normal.. (gladiator and collesium)..

sure any emperor or the boss incharge of as society always have an agenda, in a period like that, who blames them...

Constantine maybe a traitor in rome in the old world but he is a modern molder of our society today.. thing might have gone worse and u might never been born and things history just f**k up..

  • lets say lke this, God works in a mysterious way.. he even chose constantine (a greedy and ambitious emperor) to end the early christians suffering..

even in the fall of rome, the goths and visigoths were christians to and sometimes they dedicate their life to got.. the plundger the pagans more than the christians.. it was a bloody world and bloody period constantine live.. but like the early chinese emperor.. 1 empire, 1 stability, "all under heaven"..

  • i got a question... if constantine didn't conquer the east empire of rome.. then what would our world be like today??

would we reach the rennasaince period and give birth to intelligent people like galeleo or michael angelo.. or just a crap politic period.. paganism is unstable, undirect and have no foundation as strong as christianity.. islam on the other hand is becoming very strong, much that it can rival christianity..

  • And what would Jesus do? Would he really want the message of God to be spread through warfare and blood shed?

  • gay

  • zues is stronger then jesus christ. Why did constatine choose to worship a weaker god?

  • In Nomine XRI Vincas Semper!!!

  • wooow! great

  • Constantine is a Traitor of Rome and what it stood for!

  • I agree...Constantine destroyed all Rome stood for and turned once great Empire into bunch of pussy's

  • Thak you Brother!!

  • Wow, this is getting really intense!

  • that banner of christ is awesome i want 1
