  • one hell of a powerful moment in hockey!!!!

  • Something for the Malmö Redhawks maybe .. .

  • in professional sports, the name on the back is always more important than the name on the front :(

  • @chimdichekwa what they were saying was your not just representing yourself, if you go out and play half of what you can, then your disgracing the name on the front, and the front is USA.

  • nightmare suicides are not fun trust me my team does them all the time

  • Those look fun

  • 1:28 to 1:32 "what are we trading pins or something" ...toatal snipe by me,watched the movie over a hundred times before and i just caught that

  • suicides on ice. nice

  • challenging coach. i like it.

  • 8 people are spoiled i hate spoiled kids

  • @jonap97 don't you know kids today want it but do not want to work for anything, they think they are entitled to it

  • The worst drill I ever remember doing in hockey. You will keep doing this until I get tired!

  • 8 People lost to team USA in 1980.

  • 8 people collapsed and threw up after a bag skate.

  • haha the real reason it ended is cause Mark Johnson slammed his stick on the glass....lil less inspirational...

  • @jwb4291 197 ppl lost in 76 72 68

  • lol im pretty sure the real reason practice ended was cause one of them smashed their stick on the goal hahha

  • the name on the front is a helluva lot more important than the one on the back!! brilliant!!

  • Norge<3

  • I'm not a big hockey fan as I used to be anymore, but I still love this movie

  • The name on the front is a hell more important than the one on the back! Perfect quote :)

  • what a disappointment..they best part was cut out...BOOOOOOO......BOOOOOO....Brooks asked a half dozen players who they played for, they each answered their respective schools, the part only show is when the guy says, "I play for the United States of America"...BOOOOOOOOOOOO...terrible!

  • @berghof63 No one cares about cracker assed canada. Canada is full of broing ass white people

  • @berghof63: that was much earlier in the movie. this is about halfway through. the scene you're referring to was the first on-ice practice shown in the movie after OC and Mac fight. T

  • whoop! go Norway!

  • 7 people play for Russia.

  • just wondering, wuh duh fuh??? is dis doing in the "carlos mencia" playlist.... ?!?

salut în trecerea unui văr latină =)

  • I've read that this scene was recreated by the actors over a span of 3 days - 12 hours a day. During the audio commentary on the DVD, all the actors involved commented that his was the hardest scene to film in the movie because the director really wanted to get the feel of the real event and he made sure his actors made it look as real as possible.

  • I remember back taking summer hockey camp and getting bag skated. It's hell, but it will sure teach you to work.

  • If we could only get Brooks back to restore the U how it once was...

  • Coming from a Canadian, this is pretty epic. Bag skates are a bitch. That will teach you to work.

  • @MrSuperguy1000 Wow I just found new respect for canada after rreading your comment..... Alot of your countrey men post very rude comments on these videos

  • @Mortskcab It is probably us being being blinded by our own pride in Canadian hockey that makes us rude. This was an impressive feat and American hockey has come a long way since then as well. Cheers.

  • lol usa does this and they still cant beat canada at the olympics...GO CANADA!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @gagizzle123 Who cares? Hockey is dieing sport anyway... the glory days of hockey have long since come and gone. Canada is full or broing white people

  • @Mortskcab Congrats, you mixed racism, hate, and spelling errors in a youtube message. Keep it up champ, your gonna go far.

  • @MrSuperguy1000 you're*

  • @CookieMMMonster hahahaha, fair enough.

  • WIN , LOSE OR TIE . YOU GONNA PLAY LIKE CHAMPIONS :)

  • did anybody catch what one of the players said in 1:35? "is this a picture or something?"

  • @YouCanCallMeAl1022 Yeah one player did say that in the background. Good catch man.

  • damn, first they play the game an than they must do lines.

    damn that's hard

  • Ya gotta love line drills. We used to call them barf fests.

  • that part gets me every single time

  • great scene!

  • Don't mess with a guy who has escaped from New York and LA.

  • @kalteich LOL. snake pliskin coaching 101.

  • goose bumps when he says i play for the United States of America!

  • american fags...

  • Comment removed

  • @sdmagn haha fuck ur mom you cunt

  • @sdmagn What's your name?

  • ahh crushers, gotta love em'.

  • the real way it ended way when Erruzione broke his stick over the cross bar.

  • Great Movie

  • "Get a whistle..." What a great line to begin one of the greatest scenes in sports cinema history!

  • Herb Brooks was just trying to find the captain of his team! Mike Erruzione became captain of eam USA at this moment

  • MORE HEART THAN TALENT!!! HEART is what creates champions. Commom Men Go no Where, You have to be uncommon" - Herb Brooks Here at OHM Enterprise we work as a team. Team Work makes the dream work ;0)this

  • They made Herb look soft in this movie compared to the real one

  • Bag skates are NOT fun

  • supposebly they skated for an hour and a half to two hours

  • thats messed up but necessary i guess

  • every suicide was worth it...

  • One thing that did kind of make me mad though was how they portrayed Patrick. As a side kick to Herb. Craig wasn't a sidekick, he was more like Herbs partner.

  • now its every country for them selves back then thay needed we needed canada or usa to win

  • 3:30 - 3:48 says it all right there

  • Norway, not Finns - sorry

  • Still gives me chills 30 years later...I remember hearing about the game against the Finns when this happened.

Made them skate till they puked...

  • AGAIN!

  • Poor goalie lolz

  • I believe Jim Craig and another player were not there for that game because of injuries so they were not forced to do these suicides...And apparently the actor playing Mark Johnson puked after this was over and teh real Mark Johnson broke his stick against the net in frustration

  • Who do you play for? The United States of America!!!!

  • and this is why the Americans beat the Russians, better legs. No team could skate a whole game with them, this team did

  • @Isis2219 Glad you can quote the movie.

  • Coach is a HARD ASS.

  • I think these guys would be suffering severe electrolyte depletion.

  • @CMOSjockey yeah if they were pussies maybe.....thats the problem with modern sports....everyone wants to diagnose every little problem, its all just excuses not to work hard and want it more than the other team

  • Herb Brooks and Craig Patrick...pretty much built USA Hockey.

  • As you can see, it's NOT a miracle. It's all 100% hard work.

Not just in hockey, in everyday life too. Success is not achieved by slacking off.

  • true. But it was still a miracle. The team they played had more talent and would have beat them 9 times out of 10. But on that night of the olympics they pulled off the biggest miracle in sports history. Broks said that himself.

  • 10% is a miracle?

  • I remember having to do this when I was playing. Goal-Line Suicides is what my coaches called it. We were playing in a tournament and we didnt play hard at all and our couch did this to us after the game. Trust me, it makes it sink in to your head...

  • "You think you can win on talent alone? ....gentlemen, you don't have enough talent to win on talent alone."

Only one word describes Herb Brooks: Legendary

  • "The name on the front of the jersey is a hell of a lot more important than the one on the back."

  • Man Herb is the man. There will never be anyone like him again...ever.

  • A metaphor...........what will the young do with it?

  • Comment removed

  • I heard that during the shooting of this movie they made the players skate these and were on the ice for 8 hours to get it right. I could not imagine how hard either the real thing or the remake were

  • Best sports film of all time

    my fav movie

  • just saw jimmy craig, jack o'callaghan, dave silk, and mike johnson on the winter classic

  • I've met Mark Johnson, Jim Craig, Mike Eruzione, and Neal Broten. And John Harrington is my uncle!

  • one of my favorite movies of all time

  • I doubt this ever happened in real life, but this scene is straight gangsta. Makes me wanna run till I puke.

  • I saw an HBO Real Sports documentary on the Miracle on Ice. These sprints were called "Herbies" and this really did happen after a tie against Norway.

  • @rollotwomassey Yes it did but it ended different. It did not end after Mike Eruzione said "The United States of America". Instead it ended after Mark Johnson slammed his stick against the glass in frustration.

  • actually this did happen in real life.

  • i dunno but brooks did make them skate harder thanb they ever did,,, their showing in the olympics showed that,,,,, in hockey speed kills,,,,and if you cant skate 3 periods you are bound to fail,,,, herbs team didn't...

  • The blonde twins thing really pissed him off too -- God Dammit !! FOCUS!!

  • I think the Leafs should try this some time LOL

  • pretty sure the oilers all ready are.. with Pat Quinn blowing up at them :P

  • @dfbhcf ... i agree with you, but with the boston bruins HAHAHA

  • @eric829

I totally agree, im a bruins fan and maybe something like that workout would actually get them to start trying. Maybe the B's should hire Herb Brooks as the new head coach LOL

  • big problem: herb brooks has been dead since 2003 ... =\

  • Herb Brooks Died During the Making of this film ;-(

  • Herb Brooks died in a car accident during principal photography of this film. A dedication is made for him before the ending credits.

  • I thought it was a heart attack. That is so sad either way. thanks for the info

  • No - it was a 1 car accident and Brooks (at 66 years old) had been driving almost all night. He fell asleep, crashed and died.

  • he actually die from falling a sleep at the wheel which cause the car accident. my mom told me that if he would of worn his seat belt he would of survived but he didn't belive in seat belts

  • He fell asleep at the wheel which made the car accident. doctors said that if we would of worn a seat belt he would of survived but he didn't belive in them

  • haha i love herb

but my god i'd die if i even thought about doing herbies :/

some nhl teams use these things as punishments now XD

  • Yeah, they definately suck. My high school hockey coach used to make us do these. We used to call them "suicide drills".

  • Technically they are actually called Suicides, they're often done in basketball, tennis, and football, this is just the ice version of suicides

  • We call them Herbies out of Respect

  • i have to do this my whole practice because we tied im only 13 he said your bag skating all practice

  • In my practice i have to go to the oposite blue line, back to ours, then go to their goal line then back to ours... But god Herbies are soo much harder.

  • USA hockey baby

  • tell him to give me the keys and I'll lock up....EPIC!!!!

  • A few things wrong:

1: Buzz Schneider didn't do the Herbies; he got thrown out of the game.

2: Johnson broke his stick on the pipe, and that's what ended it.

  • Wasn't buzz injured??

  • No. He was thrown out of the game, and went to the locker room. The team never went to the locker room, they just stayed on the ice. 30 minutes after the end of the game, he goes next to coach Patrick, asks if he should put his gear on and go join them, Patrick thought against it.

  • impressive memory you have. But buzz did a great job those games. He,Mike and Jim best in the team.Too bad for jack he got injured before the games.never really got his chnace

  • Not really a good memory; he mentioned it in an interview done for ESPN with Buzz Schneider, Jim Craig, and Mike Eruzione. It's part of the Miracle DVD set.

  • The ending in the film is a lot more epic than a broken stick.

  • I guess they changed it for a greater effect - but it was teh exchange with Johnston not Eruzione that stopped Brooks after the tie with Normay!!!!!

  • I know. But Hollywood prefers drama over

    acuracy

  • Ain't that the truth!!!!! Drama and a good story are MUCH more important than something silly - like the truth or accuracy - especially if it intensifies the story!!!

  • mountains are fun.

  • The legs feed the wolf lol. Gotta love herbies.

  • 'Again'. As in 'Don't play like this again.'

  • we used to call these HERBies

  • there still called herbies even in australia

  • suicides after a lazy loss will motivate any good team

  • i had a coach like that if we lost we had to do suicides, we always won championships with that coach

  • very good coach

  • this is sports.

  • lol players on my team used to say our names when coach skated us

  • all coaches should treat their players like this if the team loses or ties

  • You said it.

  • From what I've heard from the playes, it was actually worse in real life. nearly everyone threw up at some point, and they really did turn off the lights on them. And Rizzo really did stop it when he said he played for the USA.

  • Im sure coaches have done this...it starts to feel like doing short sprints on a basketball court skating long enough, may as well call it runnnng with skates on.

  • RIP Herb!

  • lol i heard from an interview with some of the former members of this legendary team that they ended these herbies when one player smashed his hockey stick into the glass out of anger thus breaking it :P

  • no its a movie

  • Did this actually happen?

  • yes it did. Its based on a true story,1980 olympics. And yes the players actually did have to do "the herbies"

  • i love the music as there doing them it sounds so powerfull and complementory to whats going on

  • i love the noises of hockey.

the sound of the skates stopping , pucks slamming the boards, pucks on the blocker, all that stuff !

  • Skating lines has got to be one of the most tiring things i've ever done.

  • yes dude.

    or killers for 1.5 hours

  • Kurt Russell should have at least been nominated for an Oscar.

  • I could not agree more.

  • Always sucked being a goalie and being told to pick it up while skating with 40 lbs of gear on :)

  • Whats up herbs pussy ass assistant on the whistle?

ITS A BAG SKATE! we did them all the time in minor hockey till we puked our guts out

  • "This cannot be a team of common men, because common men go nowhere." I love that quote and how true it is.

  • I just hate this drill ! You fell like your 400lbs.. you choke like mad.. just hate it

  • Anyone who hasn't played hockey doesn't know how much this type of drill drains you.. so much worse then drills I did in football and rugby.. Those were no walk in the park either..

  • Repetitive Wrestling shots are pretty tiring too

  • Possibly the greatest story of all sports, period. Young boys, just in or out of school, taking on the USSR powerhouse which was in its prime and unstoppable. Amazing, amazing, amazing. "The legs feed the wolves"

    "...that'll be all, gentlemen."

  • it doesnt melt it just gets kinda rough because of their skates... but this actually happend they didnt make up this story

  • one of the best sports movies of all timme and one of my favorites. Awsome movie. I hvae done this drill plenty of times, but ican not imagine doing it this long.

  • Very true, i got the chance to meet Mark johnson in person and said this did happend and it was worse than the movie even showed he killed those kids he said , but that was 1980 every sport pushed and pushed, but he told me Herb pushed those guys but in the end it was the best and only way they could compete.

  • Comment removed

  • it's called discipline

  • yeah but Mark Johnson broke his stick on the glass then they stoped

  • Doc: "Herb, The Rink manager wants to clean the ice and go home"

Herb: "Tell him to give me the keys and I'll Lock Up"

such an awesome line right there.

  • mike eruzione did not say " I play for, the united states of america." really, jack o callahan said that in anger yelling at herb no joke

  • "I PLAY FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" best line in the movie

  • that movie is so good!

  • The guy that says Mike Eruzione reminds me of Evgeni Malkin

  • just my very same thoughts man

  • This encounter with Norway and the events that immediately followed were NOT fake. Many of the 1980 players are on the record claiming this part of the movie was legit.

  • AMAZING!!! Kurt Russell should AT LEAST have been nominated for BEST ACTOR.

  • USA

  • who do you play for?

  • probably the best hockey scene ever in a movie!!!!

  • I'd say it ranks up there with all sports scenes
