  • check out cross continental if you wanna see an editing master piece to this song.

  • Skating introduced me to Black Flag, Fugazi, Suicidal Tendencies, This dude, and countless others. Art enjoys spreading the love around....

  • if not skateboarding i probably would never get into elliot smith

  • ashamed that I never heard of Elliot before seeing Cross Continental, but shit! by far one of the greatest songs I've heard. just downloaded like 10 of his songs. skateboarding and goodass music go hand in hand <3

  • This song gives me the shivers and makes me feel whole.

Add some Mark Suciu skating to that,

    (:O)

  • What does some skateboarder have to do with Elliott Smith?

  • @bubsadoozy Because skateboarders generally have really good tastes in music. Skateboarding introduced me to Elliott Smith a few years back in a video I saw, and Im so glad I discovered him when I did, his music helped me through a lot of shit. Just glad Elliott's being recognized in skateboarding which is also an art, as opposed to little kids playing guitar hero

  • @bubsadoozy mark suciu used this song in a video

  • @bubsadoozy he isnt just a "some skateboarder". he is a beast

  • elliot smith grind ahahahhaa good song

  • You earned your place in my favourites.

  • Skateboarding!

  • anyone else think it was built to spill when you started listening?

  • @Josiuhhhhh finally someone who knows about built to spill

  • Mark Suciu!

  • That's the same reason I'm here

  • This really is his best album, imo

  • The transition into and out of the bridge is really really good!

  • this song is too good to be true

  • "A stick man flashing a fine-lined smile/Junk bond trader trying to sell a sucker a style/Rich man in a poor man's clothes/The permanent installment of the daily dose."

  • Found this by mistake when someone on youtube was accusing "Broken Bells" of ripping this off for their song "October" (which is ridiculous, both very original, awesome songs) So glad I decided to find out for myself. This song has been on repeat for a week!

  • @lindsey53005 Hell yeah! October by Broken Bells is an amazing song and I just found this song and don't think they sound alike.

  • won't take your medicine...don't need a remedy to be everything I am suppose to be.

God I do love Elliotts music

  • @ModifiedEvelyn true.

  • a song about falling economy ....right?

    Elliott is my favorite artist.

  • Great Song :)

  • @ModifiedEvelyn ROFL! epic fail. i had no idea he was dead. what had happened on the 15th was actually a concert in his honor or whatever, idk. didnt go. cuz i found out he was dead.

  • @CalebTheGuitarist hahahahahahahaha.

  • To me this is one of the best songs ever written; truely amazing hooks and melody with a darker vibe. It will always remind me of 2010 which is the first time I ever heard this song. So tragic he ended his life because he truely got what being a song-smith is all about. What a great piece of music. - Dannyjoe

  • what are your top 5 favorite elliot smith songs? (you can name more if youd like) I like him and im going to see him on the 15th!

  • @CalebTheGuitarist Good luck getting into the venue, he died nearly 8 years ago.

  • @CalebTheGuitarist ???????????

  • @CalebTheGuitarist wait... he was resurrected?!?! or is he undead or something?!?

  • the strings get me every time

  • How did he die, and when?

  • @Nathanial317 stab wounds to the chest...whether it was a suicide or not is still widely debated. off the top of my head it was Oct 21, 2003...that sounds right, but i'm not 100%

  • @thestudlybudly And you guessed correctly

  • The 1 dislike was a missclick, I'm sure.

  • The backwards guitar is boss.

  • nothing like the real thing

  • Tragically overlooked masterpiece.

  • hearing this song, i feel there is not point playing music. nothing could ever match his ability to create great melodys that you can listen to again and again and again

i put this guy up with this beatles

  • Hey Elliott respect and peace my man, I covered your song Angel In The Snow the past two open mics, your songs are the only I'll ever really cover since your an influence on me and my upcoming third album.

  • i wish he hadnt left out the lyrics from the early version that went, " and you tell people that they're to paranoid, when really its you they should avoid" always thought that was a really cool lyric

  • @peacelovemusic2461 - Agreed. Really, the essence of the whole song is summed up in those lines, so probably not one of Elliott's better decisions to omit them. Still, a tremendous song regardless.

  • @Galantski yeah i completely agree with you about it being a tremedous song i just think that line wouldve added a lot to this song

  • @peacelovemusic2461 - Please re-read what I wrote...I totally agree with you about that line!

  • @Galantski i understand i was agreeing that it was a tremendous song! this whole album is great im really digging la right now

  • This song is an absolute classic!

  • His musicianship is what inspired me to become a dedicated musician, long ago. Life wouldn't be the same without his accidental genius.

  • only heard of him a half hour ago and i think i love the music already

  • Elliott Smith is KING

  • And you tell off when you tell it like it is

Your world's no wider than your hatred of his

    Checking into a small reality

Boring as a drug you take too regularly

    ...lights my soul every time.

  • 2:23-2:37 gives me goosebumps every time! This song blew my speakers out in my truck! :)

  • @dfrmkdxnvfdx

fk aye!! i couldnt of put it any better myself :)))

even though i dont have a truck :D

  • pretty much a shame that my local hmv only sells an introduction, no other music shops in the area too. I just hate it when I have to buy things over the internet.

  • elliott smith sends chills up my spine.

  • i love how no one watches elliott videos <3 no ads!

  • Happy holidays... xo es

  • Maybe my favorite Elliot song. It's in a forty place tie.

  • @postyesterdayman that's it, 40? :)

  • best song ever made.

  • love this song.

  • sounds a little like cornflake by Tori Amos

  • @iambeyondfake totally, thats why Im listening to it and loving it

  • his voice is amazing

    he's very sexy too

    r.i.p

  • I love this song, especially the piano part at the beginning.

  • Youtube is a great website. I was looking for a video on actual junk bonds and i find this great song that i never heard before!

  • @musicofthesoul85 Elliot Smith was an amazing artist. My jazz band at school plays this song for fun, sometimes throws it into a our live sets as well, and even at school jazz festivals we get a great crowd response for this song :)

  • @guitarrhythymfool

Lucky!!! Everyone in my jazz band plays Miley Cyrus' "Party in the USA" when we don't have enough songs to fill a set. I wish my bandmates weren't so dumb and uncultured :P

  • @alisonlikethesong oh man i hate miley cyrus.. well at least i never saw anyone comenting about justi bieber in elliott smith vids :p.. oh wait a minute justr done it -__-

  • @alisonlikethesong I feel so fucking bad for you ><

How can you be playing MC in a fucking jazz band? I mean, this isn't really jazz, but we still performed it live all the time.

    God, that just suuuuuuuuuuuuucks

  • this song goes with me to my grave :)

i cant put into words how fkn great it is :)

  • this song is sooooooo great, especially when you´re high on weed :)

    Only the good die young

    R.I.P. Elliot

    from germany

  • @jahbamba

how much does an quarter go for in germany? on ounce?

  • Guys you've taken a beautiful song and thrown the comments into angry flaming over a spelling error.

Don't feed the troll, love the troll.

  • what a great line "im the hithch-hiker youll recognise passing, on your way to some everlasting" is he talking about astral travel? he was definately an empathetic person.. i like the way he adds youll recognise into the line.. as for the source of the song.. i would say it was his genius

  • Damn some of these comments are demeaning to read it's pretty sad.

  • haha i heard this song in a grocery store in charlotte nc on a sunday morning. def a weird place to hear it but i was like damn this song is dope i havent heard it in forever

    figure 8 is sooo good...

  • The echoed/wailing guitar riffs, especially just before the second bridge - just f'n epic. He learned well from George Harrison. One generations genious passing his craft off to the next generations genious. Just unmatched. RIP, you were an incredible artist.

  • @28danimal You're calling ME a retard? Really? Grow up. I'm surprised you can even spell retard right. Good job. Yes, he would definitely feel more affinity with an ignorant young person on youtube who obviously knows nothing about him over someone like me. I apologize.

  • cool song. this and kings crossing sound very similar to me, at least as far as the rhythm of the vocals.

  • fuck, this is a good song. i can't sum it up any other way. this man had himself some serious talent.

  • This song is pretty amazing... I love the piano in the intro, and the guitar riff is pretty awesome.

Elliott, you were a genius without measure.... rest in peace

  • question, on the bridge, does he say happy holidays, sad sick savior, or said sid the savior?

  • I think it's sick savior. An earlier version had the line "said sad savior", too.

  • thats titty fuckin good!!

  • When i'm really stoned, i have these visions (trippy) visions.. into other peoples minds, and they tell me that i am fucking ripped off my face! All while this song is slightly playing in the background, trippy. Hrmm..

  • When I'm really sleepy, I have weird (potential) insights into songs. It just occurred to me that this song might be about being perceived as cliche because of pressure to make your lyrics somehow relatable rather than purely comprehensible to you and you alone in their totality. The bridge could be a list of cliches, rather than literal. By the song's end, he isn't a fully realized person you know anymore, but a character you by necessity can't really know. A stickman if you will. Hmmm.

  • you mean when you're high?

  • No, as I said, when I'm really sleepy. Sadly I have not had the fortune to get high due to asthma.

  • @Vamphaery This is a little late, but gettin high helps asthma. Like it gets rid of it.

  • @xxpolishkid Not in my case, unfortunately. I have very, very sensitive lungs and bad allergies, and any form of particulate matter and smoke triggers severe allergic and asthmatic reactions in my mucous membranes including within my lungs. I can't even be around someone smoking pot without starting to wheeze. I know a lot of people with asthma that have benefited from it, but I'm the exception sadly.

  • @Vamphaery Aww, bummer, sorry bout that, try using a vape, it might help... no smoke just vapor.

  • @xxpolishkid lol smoking outa vape as i type this

  • @xxpolishkid

    Getting high helps everything lol.

  • @Vamphaery

What you're saying is very interesting. I believe the "source" of this song, if that means anything, is his drug addiction.

  • I'm not going to disrespect Conor oberst; however, i do not think he holds a candle to Elliott he was the greatest song writer ever to live ...and die. R.i.p elliott i miss you brother always will

  • Conor Oberst and Elliot smith are different, you know you could never accomplish anything he did, so get a life and don't be so vindictive. Jesus, it's like, if he was shit why has he got so many records? Ignorant prick.

  • amen man. seattlesounds24 is sure an ass.

  • Your a jackass. It's whatever people spell it to be. Elliot / Elliott didn't care, why do you?

  • Go take a dick

  • ELLIOTT SMITH BABY, beeecause we looove yooou

  • i think its unfair to bash conor oberst here, Elliott is fucking amazing, and honestly i dont hear any elliott smith in a lot of conors stuff, i hear more simon joyner and Daniel Johnston,

its a horrible shame that Elliott died, but again, unfair to compare two totally different artists.

  • Who is this?!

  • Chewie, hey meagan...

  • i completely agree. i love elliott smith much more as an artist and i love bright eyes too, in a very different way

  • God, Elliott how do you do it?

  • conor oberst is a fucking douchebag.

  • Conor Oberst is god awful

  • It really pisses me off how Elliott Smith had to die when Conor Oberst is still around and sucking more ass than ever. Fuck. Why??

  • i love conor

  • I like the way he is looking away from the camera..its like he doesn't even care.

  • conor oberst sucks cock

  • Idk about that but hes surely no elliott smith; anyone who thinks he even comes close is tone deaf

  • nother beautiful song by a great musician. RIP E.S.

  • @HUMBOLDTG35DRIVER

I didn't discover this till he was dead but I love this record

  • Except Conor is a piece of shit but yeah.

  • yep, pretty much.

  • I agree- I hear a lot of Elliott in Conor's work.

  • When you listen to this, you can see where Conor Oberst got his inspiration for a lot of the Mystic Valley band stuff.
