Faiz sb. was the greatest. What made him more so is the fact that there is no distinction between what he believed and what he did in real life. It is very easy to play around with words and provoke others into actions but Faiz sb. always stood up for his beliefs even though it made him a persona non grata in his native land. It is truly amazing how his voice reaches out to those living in other countries and totally different cultures. Faiz sb. lives because of his universalism.
When we talk of people from other cultures, I don't think Iqbal has ever fired their imaginations the way Faiz sb. Faiz sb's life is testimony to the truth of his words and that is exactly what makes his poetry so fascinating. There is a reason why there is a Faiz Aman Mela and not one for any other poet. Am not even qualified to assess Iqbal's genius but in this particular context Faiz sb has no parallel.

HI Ruqq ...... the guy sitting n talking is our great Urdu poet Faiz Ahmad Faiz Sahab. Faiz sahab was not just a poet but he always opposed any wrong policies of army govt in 'Pakistan', and for that reason he spent some time in jail as well. ... here he is telling about the back ground of this poem. The people who are sitting around him are his fans and could be some other writers ( I don't recon any of these though).

Faiz sb. was the greatest. What made him more so is the fact that there is no distinction between what he believed and what he did in real life. It is very easy to play around with words and provoke others into actions but Faiz sb. always stood up for his beliefs even though it made him a persona non grata in his native land. It is truly amazing how his voice reaches out to those living in other countries and totally different cultures. Faiz sb. lives because of his universalism.

When we talk of people from other cultures, I don't think Iqbal has ever fired their imaginations the way Faiz sb. Faiz sb's life is testimony to the truth of his words and that is exactly what makes his poetry so fascinating. There is a reason why there is a Faiz Aman Mela and not one for any other poet. Am not even qualified to assess Iqbal's genius but in this particular context Faiz sb has no parallel.

Faiz was the greatest Urdu poet of second half of 20th century. I walked in his funeral.

Zia-ul-Haq was the best ruler. I attended his funeral there were a million people or more. He was a great Muslim.

agree with u bro,but zia's period was such that even finished the hopes of the ppl,there was disoppiontment n horror all around,effects of this period r still damaging pak,wish these generals had thought honestly abt the country and had let the institutions get strong rather than being greedy for their reigm, God bless pak n may we get a good leadership (ameen)

I agree with you but we need to stop solely blaming the rulers for the morass. I think people ahre the blame because they allow the rulers to manipulate them. What do they say...fool me once I'm a fool, fool me twice, you're a fool...or something like that. I think Pak can still turn around for the better InshaAllah. Please dont give up on us. Peace.

very quality but very critical video.very sad such a talent is vasted,the more recent case is AHMED FARAZ who refused to take award from Musharaf.
but who is to blame its our leaders who use Pak army to crush their oppoents,list is long BHUTTO,Nawaz,Chowdaries etc,etc
