  • Are there people out there that actually like this guy's material? It's so annoying and bad.

  • @CzapigaKielbasa as for i can see theres at least 172 peoples who do

  • I HEARD A DIFFERENT RECORDING BY THEM, MAYBE LIVE FROM A RADIO SHOW, AND THE MUSIC WAS MORE COMPLEX . . .AND FUNNIER TOO!!!!

  • Ah, Spike Jones: the music your mother is guaranteed to hate.

  • If you ever have a bad day, listen to this; it'll cheer you up no time

  • Two people were expecting BEETLEBAUM at the end.

  • thumbs up if bill bailey sent you here :D

  • YOU CAN'T HELP BUT LAUGH OUT LOUD AT SPIKE JONES AND HIS CRAZINESS...pure genius

  • I was raised on this stuff. My grandpa had an old console with a 78 record player in it and I used to listen to his old records....lots of Spike Jones.

  • I want this played at my funeral

  • Bill Bailey said that David Rose's original of this wasn't much of a holiday for the string players!

  • Best part is at 1:34 XD

  • I think the best part starts at 1:55

  • I have quite a few Spike Jones albums that were my father's. I might even have some 78's if look hard enough.

  • What this song needed...was more cowbell, chickens, and laughter.

  • Spike had an evil look like he was out of Mad Magazine.

  • It's hard to listen to a bunch of people laugh like that and not laugh yourself! XD

  • LOVED IT THEN--STILL A GOOD LAUGH!

  • My!! These guys were awesome.

  • Spike did an amazing version of "Ramona" in which the drums played the melody and a string section played the rhythm.

  • 2:50 YouTube video. December 14, 1911: birth of Spike Jones, American comedian and musician (d. 1965).

  • This should be the new replacement theme toon for BBC News24 ;-j

  • for some reason i also recall this version by good ole spike being used for a Second City TV show theme. Or am i mistaken?

  • I wonder why the Video was taken off /banned ????

  • why I wonder?

  • id like to see the holyday for strings live video...youtube banned it a few months ago

  • @PayoFyah why....and a few others too..........

  • I love how it degrades into whooping and hollering. God bless Spike Jones and his cowbell.

  • @petitequinte

What this song needs...is more cowbell.

  • Spike Jones, definition of genius.

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! If the late great Spike Jones & his band had been any cooler, they'd have been frozen! True comic geniuses! I can remember David Rose's "Holiday for Strings" as being the theme on Red Skelton's CBS variety show, which I loved watching as a kid in the 60's. THANKS for sharing this delightful "blast from the past" with us to enjoy! :)

  • The moment the chickens started in, I couldn't stop laughing.

  • I was listening to a big band radio station at work and this came on. Definitely exactly what I needed to start my day!

  • Wow Those chickens caught me off guard xP

  • Red Skelton would have loved this.

  • I can play this on my jawbone. maybe I should put a clip on YouTube! :-D

  • These guys take the cake as far as being funny, inventive, and good. Hilarious. Regards, The '62 Mathew St. Band (1 Man-Full Group Retro)

  • I love these guys...I listen to all kinds of music whether its this...or AC/DC!

  • OMG these guys were a class act and they also had to be some of the most talented musicians who ever lived to put this together and make it sound right!!!! I grew up listening to them and Homer and Jethro on the radio and just found this by accident !!! MORE PLEASE!!!!! Hahahahaha !!!!!!! TenStarsplus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Saw these Spikey guys on live TV decades ago-any more kinescopes around in the vaults?

  • Qué genialidad de orquesta la de este Spike Jones, el mago del ritmo, del humor y de los efectos acústicos. Es la maravilla musical del siglo XX. Escucharlos es un deleite !!!!!!

  • Class act...

  • that banjo player looks freakin happy!

  • hehe thats the world famious banjo player Freddy Morgan an that was one of his signature looks

  • I have the LP "That old black magic", hilarious and brilliant from start to finish!!!

  • ahahaha! If you ever have a bad day, listen to this! ahahahaha!

  • I got my hands on a 78 of this when I was about six, and it was all downhill from there as far as my mother was concerned. Spike Jones warped my mind musically. RIP Spike!

  • I bought a CD featuring this and many other greats about a year ago. I will never be the same again. I've always been warped, but now I'm FUBAR.

  • With all the silliness, there's still a harp. Classy!

  • Nice song... video is also funny ;)

  • apart from S, who are all the other wonderful people in this 'photo and where are they now?

    regards, JS

  • I can spot Freddie Martin playing banjo over on the right (our right), and George Rock playing trumpet right over Spike's head. George sang the high-voice kiddie stuff, like "All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth." No idea if any of them are alive now, sorry to say.

  • @MrKipW According to IMDB, Freddy Morgan died in 1970 at the age of 60 and George Rock died in 1988 at the age of 69. Spike died in 1965 at the age of 53.

  • @Oldiesmann Thanks. I knew about Spike, but hadn't kept close track of his minions.

  • This is so funny! I've never heard this version before; thanks for posting it!!!!!

  • 's wonderful

  • GENIAL!!!!!

  • echt große klasse! ich finds grandios^^
