  • I loved the way John Barry used dark, analogue synthesizer bass lines in some of his TV themes (the Persuaders is also a good example). This made them quite striking for their time.

A unique musical talent, sadly missed.

  • Love this theme. It has been in my "head" since the 70's and didn't hear it again until now! Thanks for posting.

  • I'm happy to see again this fabulous track !

Eternal is John Barry with this song and with" The Persuader's" theme, ans both are for me a sweet childhood souvenir ! Thank you so much !

  • great theme, hard to believe this is the same guy who wrote Out of Africa. :)

  • AWESOME Theme song! This, Night Gallery season 2 and Roald Dahl's 'Tales of the Unexpected' are the top 3 themes of the 70's

  • RIP JOHN BARRY

  • I also remember an episode where some children were in an old museum, and one

of them ,a girl stood and looked at a painting. The museum closed the other children

went away. The girl continued to stare at the painting in the now dark room, and suddenly a man steps out of the painting and grabs her throat. Could it be the same episode? I still feel scared when I think of it!

  • Not heard this since it was on TV in the 70's. Still remember an episode where there was some children in an old house and eyes moved behind a painting scared me to death!

  • I saw an episode of this when I shouldn't have actually been watching it, as I was too young. The episode was 'The Leather Funnel', by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. For some reason, it scared me silly, and forever after, just hearing the theme made me uneasy - the Pavlov's Dogs effect! Despite this, I have wanted this theme for years; hearing it just now brought me out in goosebumps. I'm 47, and this proves the power of a good scare. Excellent!

  • I've never heard it before, but thought of James Bond.

  • 第1回の「猿の手」は怖かったよね。

  • I wasn't really feeling the Barryness until that string cuts in. Having flashbacks of Bond music here. It's pretty cool, same as all of Barry's work I've heard - but (apologies) I just can't really grab onto it, aside from the dated feeling of the sound. Great composition, though, wouldn't mind hearing it rerecorded. I am intrigued to find out about the show though.

  • Sounds like a re-jumble of "The Adventurer" Theme.

  • there are some men and musics who are unforgettable !

Orson welles and john Barry belong to the legend ! I appreciate so much !

  • Wow, I have been looking for this music for so long, so haunting. Orson Wells was a genius.

  • absoluely agree john barry isa film music god . should have been knighted , i saw him live in thealbert hall. was brilliant.

this is another haunting piece. I wish some one would post the original vendetta , 1960's series again in black and white, by john barry.

i just finished learning this mystery music on my piano. it is great.

  • GREAT TRACK !!!! I was eight when I saw in the italian television this serie, but the soundtrack was outstanding !!!

God bless you John and Orson !!

  • Wow! This has brought back memories of my early teenage years! I tell thee: the haunting theme by John Barry is awesome . I lived in Italy at the time and the series was translated as Tales of the Impossible. I'm ever so grateful to Ostmusicmix for uploading this!!

  • Oh, man. If only you can imagine how long it's been since I've heard this theme.

I was a regular viewer of this series when it aired on PBS on Sunday nights. Orson Welles was a rare and unique individual, superb actor and narrator. I would love to have this series, however short-lived it was, in my home video collection.

Kudos to you who posted this on YouTube, the legacy of Orson Welles deserves to be remeembered, and this was just one jewel in his illustrious crown of performances.
