This rule seems stupid to me. If it hits foul territory, it should be a foul ball even if it rolls into fair territory. Can someone explain this rule to me?

The 3rd baseman is allowed to pick the ball up the moment it goes fair, he does not have to wait for it to roll over the bag, the baserunners should have ran just incase this happened, but bad baserunning led them to two quick, easy outs. Runners are forced by the runners behind them not in front of them like you discribed. If he would of went to third first then home he would of had to tag the runner coming home.
the Cal Ripken World Series should be televised over this kuz its more lik real baseball. all this is mostly is big kids using skinny barrels which gives more bat speed and 225 ft fences. also they dont take leads, its 46 ft mounds which makes kids look like theyre good pitchers and 60 ft pases which i as a 12 year old (which they are) played on 90 ft bases. the cal ripken however is like 260-300 foot fences. longer bases, leads and other stuff thats better than this

@scienceguy474 You need to read a baseball rule book, not a Science book. ANY batted ball can become fair before passing first or third base regardless of where it initially lands. In this case, the umpires made the correct call. The ball was on the line (which is FAIR, not foul) when fielded. NOTE: If the ball had touched ANYTHING other than the ground while in foul territory, then it would have been foul.

That was a great call by the umpire and a great heads up play by the third baseman. It does not matter what league you are calling, if the ball is foul and rolls back fair its a fair ball. That is one of the first things you are told at umpire school is to wait and make your call on a foul because if you call foul ball and it rolls back fair your fucked, but if it rolls foul and comes back fair its a fair ball. It does not matter what age, group, or what ever ball you play its a fair ball.

Actually, it should be a fair ball. It doesnt matter where the ball touches first, it matters where the player touches it. If he touches the ball in foul territory, its a foul ball. If he touches it in fair territory, its a fair ball. Unless of course its behind first or third base, then it matters where it lands first.

The 3rd baseman is allowed to pick the ball up the moment it goes fair, he does not have to wait for it to roll over the bag, the baserunners should have ran just incase this happened, but bad baserunning led them to two quick, easy outs. Great play by the 3rd baseman, and the correct call. Watch the video, and you will see.

the Cal Ripken World Series should be televised over this kuz its more lik real baseball. all this is mostly is big kids using skinny barrels which gives more bat speed and 225 ft fences. also they dont take leads, its 46 ft mounds which makes kids look like theyre good pitchers and 60 ft pases which i as a 12 year old (which they are) played on 90 ft bases. the cal ripken however is like 260-300 foot fences. longer bases, leads and other stuff thats better than this

@592220 if the bases were loaded you are wrong, again i dont have sound so im not sure exactly what the situation was but it looks like they were loaded to me. from what im seeing there was 1 out and the play went home to third, each with a force, which in any case would have been a double play even if they had run at full speed, maybe the second out was preventable. you gotta stop coming on here and try to tell someone who made it to the llws how to play baseball mr 20 year veteran

(The lines and the foul poles are considered in play as well) If he went for it and missed it wouldnt matter unless it went into fair ground before it passed the bag and stayed in fair play

@scienceguy474 You need to read a baseball rule book, not a Science book. ANY batted ball can become fair before passing first or third base regardless of where it initially lands. In this case, the umpires made the correct call. The ball was on the line (which is FAIR, not foul) when fielded. NOTE: If the ball had touched ANYTHING other than the ground while in foul territory, then it would have been foul.

That was a great call by the umpire and a great heads up play by the third baseman. It does not matter what league you are calling, if the ball is foul and rolls back fair its a fair ball. That is one of the first things you are told at umpire school is to wait and make your call on a foul because if you call foul ball and it rolls back fair your fucked, but if it rolls foul and comes back fair its a fair ball. It does not matter what age, group, or what ever ball you play its a fair ball.

in fact if the ball crosses third in foul play on the ground, then it is foul. if it lands for the first time past 3rd base, in foul ground it is foul. if it is fielded before third base, in foul ground it is foul. however if the ball is first touched in fair play, before third base it is then a fair ball. doesn't matter if the ball was 7 feet foul. if nobody touches it and it doesnt hit the wall, and it comes back into fair play....the ball is fair

Actually, it should be a fair ball. It doesnt matter where the ball touches first, it matters where the player touches it. If he touches the ball in foul territory, its a foul ball. If he touches it in fair territory, its a fair ball. Unless of course its behind first or third base, then it matters where it lands first.
