  • beautiful!! hey are you up at lake isabella?

  • No, but I am there often.

  • beautiful!!

  • hey i have a 1974 yamaha enduro Dt360 and i wondered if they have power bands in them and why does my magneto get so frikkin hot

  • No bands. I'd try a new magneto.

  • @vintagemachines ok does it do anything to have or not have bands..... and how do u replace the magneto

  • No. Follow a manual if you dare or have someone experienced do it.

  • @98sk8terforlife buddy, no offense, but if you dont know what a powerband is, dont bring a wrench near your bike. a powerband is the rpm range where the engine makes the most power. EVERY engine has a powerband, from weed eaters to top fuel dragsters.

  • @98sk8terforlife You do understand that a powerband is not a device at all? It's the rpm range where the engine makes the most power.

  • Thanks for the memories! Had a '73 LT3 100cc purple beauty at age 13 as a Christmas gift trade up from a '69 Cat Slingshot minibike that I rode on many trails . . . always had a soft spot for the '73 Yamaha enduros. The colors and tank graphics of the '73 Yamaha enduros are still the best in my eyes.

Now that I am in my fifties with more disposable income I will be on the lookout for a well preserved DT3 or RT3.

  • My favorite as well - happy trails when you find one...

  • Cool bike, we just had a big gathering of old Yamaha Enduros in California. The Event was called Enduro Fest 2010 we put up some vids. PM me for links or if you are interested in attending the next one! We are planning a ride on the East Coast now!

  • Only out of jealousy .... I hate you lol SWEEET!

  • Sweet ride. Thanks for that. I remember working in a bike shop in the '70's when these were a common site, but not so much anymore.

  • Nice bike - runs really well.

We called this model the RT3 in our part of the world.

Your video brings back really good memories of riding dirtbikes in this era.

  • Hello, i have a dt400 and i was wondering where i could get information on its specs. Do all of these bikes allow for shifting from 3 to 5 without the clutch?

  • You could most likely find a club online for these bikes or a site with more details on them.

  • Very nice stock 1973 model. I have a stock 1978 DT250, along with 1972 AT2 and 1971 AT1, also stock.

  • ya sweat me and my dad are restoring one right now it was my dads from when he was a kid.

  • Send me a video when your done and enjoy an awesome machine that your Dad was wise enough to hold onto...:)

    VM

  • hey im restoring a 1973 yamaha gt80..are they a good bike..? are they rare cause i can't find one anywhere? except odd bits and peices

  • I would think not that many of that cc were made.

  • yeah same. But the motorbike restorer i asked said he hasn't seen this model in years. Its very odd paintjob aswell. its a silver tank with a purple 3/4 oval on it

  • @enginerebuilder1 I had a GT80, I don't know what year it was but something makes me think '76? Anyway, I was very satisfied with the bike, it was a very good platform for learning how to shift and use the clutch at age 9. Looking back on it, there are some places I went on the GT80 that still look very difficult on my '82 Husqvarna, I'm amazed I was able to make it. But, I did, on a regular basis.

  • @enginerebuilder1 ive seen a few of those!!! they are great bikes. kinda lack the power needed to stay on the road but they are great for other stuff. id recomend a 100 at least. if you can, get a 125. that will be your best. and they are easy to find parts for. if you dont mind having a bigger bike go w/ the 360. even 400. but mind that the 400 is a low revving beast. more torque oriented.

  • Does anyone know the color code of this bike. I can't find it anywhere. I have a dt250 with the 360 tank and I can't find the matching paint.

  • I do not, but maybe someone out there will...

  • the color for this is "baja brown" though it has a certain amount of metallic flake

  • Sounds nice

  • cool video!! i love te way u were taping it,, but at the end when u grabbed the camera i thaught u fell :X

  • Nope, just focased more on driving then recording :)

  • thats a goodidea lol!

  • focused :)

  • I have a nos clutch cable for this bike that I need to get rid of, would you be interested?

  • Thanks, but I do not need one. You should look through the comments for this video, as some viewers have asked for info on parts suppliers.

  • I have two 360's I want to restore. Those motorcycles are nice.

  • very nice

  • Finally someone who keeps his things clean! I thought I was the only one!

  • When I open a shop - clean vehicles and property will be my hallmark. Too many collectors just park and neglect their stuff forming junkyards that create the bad stigma...

  • I have a 1973 125 at3 enduro and I am planning on rebuliding the engine and carb in my advanced studies engine course at school but I am looking for the gasket and rebuild kits for this project. Do you have any idea where I can find them?? please respond back I have been looking everywhere for them any info would be nice thanks

  • Google Enduro parts CA, there was a place here.

    VM

  • I have a 125 that my dad got when i was born and would like to restore but not sure where to stare. It was running but had a problem with the charging system back in 1990. Do you know where I can get parts?

  • There is a place here in CA, but I lost the info. Goggling Enduro parts should get it.

  • I have a 1973 DT250 that I would like to make street legal. Do you how or if I could get a title for it.thanks

    Nice bike!

  • I would ask your state DMV, there should be a salvage title &/or vin verification procedure.

  • Nice bike. I have a 1973 DT-250 but does not have a title. Do yo know of a way to get a title for a bike? I live in Dallas. I would really like to make it street legal. I have a CT-175 street legal but it is a little small.thanks

  • I had a CT-175 in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea way back in the 70's and just LOVED hearing the sound of your bike. Wish I could have one again. Thank you for reminding me of a wonderful era.

    Denise

  • My pleasure:)

    VM

  • those bikes really hall ass I have the DT3-250 Model for that year myself and it tops out at 69 Miles Per Hour and just is sweet with the torque "at least it was I regret putting that new 39 tooth sprocket on the back now :(" it needed a 47 rather then the worn 44 tooth that was there from stock"

  • Boy that brings back memories...

Especially watching friends trying to start it without turning the decompression lever and flying over the handlebars! Good times :)

  • LOL :)

  • Hmm.. my conmment wasn´t added - I´ll try again. Thanks for the reply VM. I am very temptet by the DT400! They are thirsty little bikes, arent they?

By the way - is there a part two of this video coming up? Would be nice to hear it under hard acceleration too!!

  • My 360 gets about 55 mpg and that is on hilly mountain roads:) There is a part two off road ride of this bike in my videos, but it is not as good as the first.

    VM

  • Wow 55 mpg. I heard of maximum 30. your powershifting must be doing the trick ;-)

I just found part 2, (doesn´t show up on a youtube search), and i think it was well worth wathing. The sound of it is awesome.

  • I only power shift occasionally, I believe my using a high quality injector oil gives me about 30% of the milage gain. Maxima SuperM Ester Based Synthetic smokeless from Chaparral Motorsports is the one I use.

    VM

  • Hi there. Sweet bik!! Is it a DT360? I have my eye on a DT400 with only 3600 miles on it. It was in the hands of a collector from 1982. Could you recoomend such a bike? Parts are hard to find, right? I will be using it only on the roads also. Hope to hear from you. Regards - Brian.

  • Mine is a RT1 360. Your deal sounds good and parts are not too hard to find with Ebay around. I have put 4000 miles on mine in 3 years and have not needed to aquire many parts.

    VM

  • do you live in America?

  • Yes California.

  • I have the same bike that is so awesome yours runs mine is my grandpa's it sat for a decade and a half or so but it is in almost mint condition like yours anyway the carbs needle jet retaining screw o ring is disenigrated and the needle jet retaining screw broke but it will turn ove a little thanks for the kick tips i have torn my leg off so much then i roll started it but your tips should work any tips on problems or how it rides would be appreciated I love these bikes!

  • If bike sits more than 12 hrs I kick 6 times with choke and decompressor on (a couple more on cold days) with ignition off. Then 1 or 2 more kicks with ignition, and choke off almost always gets her to then start with less than three starting kicks.

  • i have a 72' 250, and a 73' 360 just like yours....check out my vids if you like. my question is this: does anyone know how to tune these bikes so they don't KICK BACK so frequently on start ups? i use the decompression lever on the 360, but it still kicks like a mule about every third kick. nice video, thanks!

  • Try a little less than half travel on every other kick - reduces the frequency of severe kickback for me. Gotta love their starting process:)

    VM

  • hey i have the same bike thats an good bike

  • Thanks for that. I remember when those yamaha 2 strokes were everywhere. That was a great video.

  • Nice, it does bring back my teen days, my friend had a 360 and i had cb350 honda, we ran the crap out of these bikes off and on the road. realy good fun

    be safe.

  • Love the bike, I have the 73 GT-3(80), AT-3 (125), and CT-3 (175). Most of all I want to get the 73 360 tho ! I rode one once and loved it ! Very fast and cool ! yours is really nice too..........Ed.

  • Thanks

  • My yz 1975 is quite scarey to start, and is twice as loud as the dt/rt,and wheelies just at the thought of it!!,lower geared ofcourse.

  • LORDY!!! Thanks for the memories!

I had no idea how many people there might be with such attachment to this ol' bike! Mine was a big green one named Godzilla.

  • Thanks for the video! Brings back memories. I had this exact motorcycle as a teen, and remember 2 things about it.

    1. It was unbelievably fast in high RPMs. Easy to ride a wheelie for more than a city block acelerating with the front wheel 4" off the ground!

    2. It had a compression release to aid in kick starting it....and when it kicked back, it hurt! My calf was black & blue so much, that I eventually decided push starting it was safer.

That's a beautiful bike. Thanks again!! -Craig

  • Heavy boots, engage decompressor, a few kicks with the ignition off first and she starts right-up. She is most assuredly not for the faint of heart, or those who do not want to go through a process (that is half the fun for me). I will have a short dirt ride up soon, had a little trouble with fires up here.

  • Sweet bike! Reminds me of the Yamaha dirt bikes I rode as a kid. I think I'll start hunting for a DT!

  • Your comment sums up my vehicular goals as far as rekindling the vintagemachine spirit. My wife says a lot of wives out there must hate me - but I know a few who want these machines themselves.

  • I hear ya! Luckily my wife is surprisingly tolerant of my obsession. I recently finished rebuilding a 1980 Yamaha XT500, during which I spent many evenings and weekends banging around in the garage, with parts and pieces everywhere. She never complained...hmm, I wonder what she's going to want! LOL

  • dont know how oftenn I´ve watched this vid.

    My highest rating for you.

Have the same (early AT2/DT1E but with 175ccm ) and your vid turns me on to hurry up with restoring it. Difficult to get parts here in germany, found the most of the in the US.

Would be great if u could make a second vid ;O)

    All the best

    Cardaun

  • I plan a mild jump or off road video for this machine, and as always - I am happy to see others enjoy the rides.

  • As always I am glad that others enjoy the rides and I do plan a second video with this machine - a mild jump or off road jaunt.

  • Very nice bike! I have never seen 360 model at live. It's very rare here in Finland. I've seen only one restored 175 model. Absolutely beautyful bikes these old enduro Yamahas. I have one 1975 RD125 waiting to be restored. Love the sound of these old two-strokers! :P

  • sweet bike, just bought my uncles 73' ct3 175 for $100, needs a few parts (included in the deal) and a good cleaning, gonna make it shine.

  • I love RT1's they rock just wish mine looked that good still, there awesome you can pull it up in any gear fun bikes to ride.... NICE bike!

  • Function is more important than looks, so if your bike still operates, enjoy it for what it is - quality craftmanship coupled with capability. I ride mine all summer and occasionally in the winter as in the video .

  • wasnt that ride a bit cold?

  • Invigorating!

  • Nice vid, myself yr's ago i had one of these 2...nice vid

  • COOL bike I got a RD350 yamahasvare great.

  • I also have the same exact bike, except mine has a few dings on the tank. How did you get the sides of your transmission so shiny? Mine has like a yellow tinted layer irremovable something on it! Nice bike though

  • I just used Mother's chrome polish, but since this bike has always been stored inside it was not that bad to begin with. VM

  • absolutely beautiful bike, I have a 1973 yamaha ct1 175, I love the vintage bikes.

  • No bikes are more versatle than old Yamahas. VM

  • Great to see a bike my old bike again!!!

  • Glad to share my vehicles with those who appreciate them. VM
